Data is saying that it exists.†Councilmember Myrtle ColeFeb. 25, 2015 (San Diego) San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman presented the traffic stop data for 2014. The data revealed the following:Blacks had the following breakdown: 16,140 with 1640 searches. They are 60,422 strong in the city. This comes to 11.2 percent of the cards, 23.4 percent of the searches, and this is 5.5 percent of total population.Hispanics have the following data: 43, 497 stops, with 2,867 searches. Hispanics are 294,439 of the population. This translates to 30.2 percent of the stops and 40.1 percent of the searches. The total Hispanic population is 27 percent.While white stops are the largest group, they are still the majority of the population. The data comes like this. There were 61,981 total stops with 7,142 searches. Whites were a total of 1,089,221 people. This comes to the following breakdown in percentiles, this comes to 43 percent of all stops. There were 27.6 percent of all searches, and this was 47.2 percent of the population.While raw numbers indicate that more whites than any other minority group were stopped, when one looks at what is the percentage of the population it is clear that both black and Hispanic are unduly affected.Mark Jones of the Black Justice Student Coalition (BJSC) told committee members. “We have a racial profiling issue. It’s here. The data shows that the problem exists.â€Among the speakers was Aaron Harvey, who told the Council that San Diego PD targeted him for merely living in his neighborhood. He was deemed to be a gang member, even though he is not. Catherine Mendonca not only mentioned this data, but added street stops, what she called “walking while brown and walking while black.†Mendonca highlighted curfew sweeps, which violate the rights of both minors and parents to raise their children. Where are the stats showing the results of the searches and what was found during them?

Nadin BrzezinskiYesterday at 1:00pm · Well we are getting ready to go cover the rally and the presser outside the Court. Camera, check, batteries, check, notebook check, press pass, check... and while I did not fully finish my self assigned reading on the matter, I did enough to understand it.
Actually, ileostomy. My dad's had one since late summer of 1972. He's rendered many, many bathrooms unusable for at least half of an hour, over the years. And he flashes one of these every time he does it: Our reaction is usually something like this:

Mehhhhh ...Bank robbers rob banks because that's where the money is.LEOs patrol high crime areas because that's where the criminals hang out (if not live). If majority black and majority Hispanic neighborhoods are high crime areas, guess where the LEOs are going to be! Maybe if the residents of those areas started community-based orgs to root criminals out of their neighborhoods the police would follow the thugs wherever they went next.
That's the 'insignificant' fact this misses, right there. What is the racial makeup of the neighborhoods where the traffic stops take place ? Like it or not DUmmies, people tend to cluster in groups of similar racial, ethnic and/or religious background. And the police are going to setup these stops in neighborhoods with the highest number of criminal complaints.So yeah - there is targeting - but it isn't based on race. It's based on statistical probability.
