I don't know about California code, but I'd kill to have a hood here in NM
The house is an old one and predates them. If I ever steel myself to put up with a year of dust and filth and workmen clomping through, I'm going to have a huge hood with no cabinets above it, something to suck the heat out of the kitchen in summer at the very least and the reek when I'm reducing balsamic vinegar at the most.
Obviously using union labor. I could build his entire house, by myself, in less than a year. Huge hood above stove with no cabinets, less than a weekend. Hell, I replaced ALL the kitchen base cabinets, the sink, and the countertop in my house last year in one day, BY MYSELF.
Building codes? IT'S YOUR HOUSE, DUmbass!!! "F" the damned codes!!!
