Here's a novel idea, William (because I know you'll read this, you drunken loser).

Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, using as few words as possible. Keep your opinions to yourself. Two verifiable sources must be referenced in any report, and somebody else's blog does not count as a source.

Think you can do that?

Not only he, but everyone on DU would cease to post, even in things like cooking, if that were the standard.

The initial findings have led Intuit to believe that these instances of fraud did not result from a security breach of its systems. Instead, the company believes that the information used to file fraudulent returns was obtained from other sources outside the tax preparation process.

So what well known website with very poor security would have 1000's of people personal information and enough of it to file a fraudulent  tax return?

Hm, one comes to mind. And it is still not very secure.

Can you say:

healthcare.gov

They collect enough information.

Turbo Tax Resumes State E-Filing; Still Closed In Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Intuit Inc. announced that its software Turbo Tax has resumed e-filing of state income tax returns Friday afternoon.

The company had temporarily suspended e-filing in all states over concerns of fraud after two Minnesota users reported that someone had already filed in their name.

The scare prompted the Minnesota Department of Revenue to block Turbo Tax filings, which remains closed pending further investigation.

“We are working quickly to verify Intuit’s new security measures and their impact on Minnesota returns,” department officials said in a statement. “We will work continuously until we can assure Minnesotans that Turbo Tax returns will be filed safely.”

So, how much of these "concerns" were due to the mini-flood of phony tax filings, and how much of it was haters of successful businesses ginning up false fears of TT having been hacked? And were those ginning up the fears mistaken, blindered by their hatred of successful businesses as they leaped to a false conclusion? Or were they acting in conscious malice?!

Given that about half the states have issues as opposed to all of them, I would tend to suspect a vulnerability exists in the particular processing software used by the states that are seeing the ID theft, rather than on Intuit's or IRS/Healthcare.gov's part...unless the compromised states were also those that matched up with the Medicaid expansion states, in which case the implication would definitely be a problem in the Federal sites and their interface with each other.

TurboTax resumes filings amid fraud outbreak

TurboTax late Friday restored the ability of its software to e-file state tax returns across the USA after the company turned it off Thursday finding "an increase in suspicious filings," the company said today.

The tax-preparation software company has found an increase in criminal activity where stolen personal data are used to file fake state returns with state authorities. This illegal act allows fraudsters to claim tax refunds from state governments. TurboTax turned off the filing feature Thursday to stop any potential fraud. But e-filing was restored at about 6 p.m. eastern.

"We are taking this issue very seriously and from the moment it emerged it has been all-hands-on-deck," says Brad Smith, CEO of TurboTax publisher Intuit. "I am more than pleased we were able to resume transmission for our customers within about 24 hours."

An internal TurboTax investigation has found the breaches were not due to a problem with its own systems, but criminals digging up the personal information elsewhere. The company said the investigation is ongoing. Intuit says it's working with state tax officials to get the e-filing security back to where it needs to be to turn it back on. TurboTax customers who already e-filed their state returns don't have to do anything. The returns will be transmitted again when the problem is resolved, TurboTax says.

Or maybe those states' ObamaCare exchanges were the source of the identity theft. Of course that assumes that other states were not getting flooded with bogus returns. It may be that those other states (some of them?) haven't caught on.

Illinois just started accepting E-filing on their site this morning, and they only started accepting them from other tax preparation companies last Monday or Tuesday.

That was the gist of the second half of my post, but I could have written it more clearly.

Clarity eludes me almost as often as brevity.

There are two levels of poor security in ObamaCare: the Federal website; the state exchanges' websites. It could equally aptly and accurately be said that there is one more point of security risk in ObamaCare than the number of state exchanges.

208. Still standing by this story, Will?

Any reputable journalist would've edited. A google search for "turbo tax hack" still doesn't net any results for your story. Just that fraudsters utilized turbo tax to SUBMIT fraudulent returns. No hacking. Although, this came up as the number 2 search:

Yes, I know it's a RW news site, but it still gave me a chuckle.
