Wow, he's boasting isn't he?

Depends on where he lives.  In the People's Republic of New Jersey and a lot of the mid-Atlantic, that would be about a nice 2BR bungalow on a quarter acre lot.  I hate to think how little house it would go with in coastal Kalifornistan.

When the DUmmies vote for free government stuff they don't expect to have to pay for it themselves.

What is said dummie doing at the DU?  Sounds to me like DUmmie is rich.  Lives in Texas.

And there is a nice little inbreed fighting there between DUmmies.

They are bitching about it being so high because of corporations, blah blah blah.  Yet FBaggins uses a little logic:

Quote
Star Member csziggy (17,492 posts)
14. It can be counted as corporate welfare when corporations are tax free to lure them in

Some areas try to get corporations to move their operations in by giving tax incentives - no property tax, no corporate taxes. Say a Walmart is invited to your area on the condition they pay no taxes at all for 10 years - who is going to make up the difference between what had been paid on that property and what is now not being paid? Everyone else.

That is "corporate welfare" - and it's not happening just in Texas.

Uh oh... someone explains it for them...

Quote
FBaggins (13,969 posts)
16. See my 15

It isn't anywhere close to "most".

Also... as objectionable as such deals can be, they're usually not done on land that paid much in property taxes to begin with. When Walmart gets such a deal, the bulk of the taxable valuation of the property is because there's now a Walmart sitting on top of it... so the county is waiving taxes that it wouldn't get if it weren't for the deal.

Quote
FBaggins (13,969 posts)
67. What's your point?

If a county makes a deal with a developer (homes/stores/factories/whatever) to turn $300/year/acre in taxes into $3,000/year/acre in taxes... but waives those taxes for the first five years... it doesn't cost them $3,000 per year for each acre. It costs them $300... because they wouldn't get any more than that unless someone puts something more valuable there.

Where such policies become questionable is when the business would have moved there anyway and is using the leverage of implies incentives elsewhere to squeeze the county. They're also bad policy because their general availability makes it easier for businesses to squeeze the next county.

I see Pizza in your future.

I was just thinking while reading this, isn't it interesting how when DUmmies taxes go up it's because of evil corporations or church's as stated in the thread.   Yet when they ask they so called "rich" to pay more it's to help the needy.

My property taxes are ~$250 per year. I have slightly over 1 acre out in the country with a 3BR 3BA ranch style home.

My neighbor across the road is in the local democrat run county. They pay over $1,000 per year.

My total tax bill for Real Estate/Personal Property taxes in this county was just shy of $1,000.

$500 of that was on my "new" 2013 Tahoe I bought last November.   :argh:

Another $250 for my 2008 Forest River 26' Camper, that I tow with my 2013 Tahoe, because a Prius won't.   :rotf:

The rest for 4 acres of land, my house, 3 outbuildings, 2 other cars, a pickup truck, a small trailer, various tools, and a 4-wheeler.

When one becomes a liberal, he or she pretends to advocate tolerance, equality and peace, but hilariously, they’re doing so for purely selfish reasons. It’s the human equivalent of a puppy dog’s face: an evolutionary tool designed to enhance survival, reproductive value and status. In short, liberalism is based on one central desire: to look cool in front of others in order to get love. Preaching tolerance makes you look cooler, than saying something like, “please lower my taxes” — Greg Gutfeld
