Spending time in jail or doing 30 days of community service would teach them a lesson they would never forget.

Do ski resorts need ditches?

The little bastards damaged private property. They incurred a debt to the owners of the property. They should repay the debt in kind, not in a way that does nothing for the victims, but benefits the state.

The victims' loss is not mitigated by the punishment.

At its best, community service is forced labor for the benefit of the government, generally for a victimless offense or a crime against the owner of private property. At its worst, it's meaningless liberal feel-good bullshit.

In this case, the property owners would pay for labor benefiting the State, which would be an incentive to the State for the crime to occur in the first place.

I did not say the victims loss was mitigated by the punishment. Where do you come off with that bullshit?????

The owners should request payment from those that signed the rental agreement for damages and future loss of income. I would also request the authorities prosecute these rich kids. BTW, criminal mischief is no joke. You need to  do some research regarding legal ramifications regarding for $75,000 in vandalism before you spout off. Plus, I do not have a problem with these kids picking up trash on the side of the road or shoveling bear shit at the zoo. Might be good for them.
