20. The historical inaccuracies probably didn't help either. n/t

27. Except that the Imitation Game is also innacurate
Although perhaps in a more minor way.
Also I'm disturbed that American Sniper was nominated, speaking of historical inaccuracies and out and out lies. I haven't seen it, though, so I don't know Eastwood treats those parts of the memoir.
You haven't seen it. No doubt haven read it. But all your leftist friends say it sucks so it must... is that about it?

52. And "The Butler" was shut out last year probably due to "12 Years a Slave". Oprah should have at least gotten some nomination for that.

4. so should nominations be distributed on a quota basis reflecting the make up of the population as a whole?
Careful. You are going to step on a DUmp sacred mole trap...

6. I'm not surprised by this
And I don't believe it's part of some hidden Hollywood Agenda.
There simply wasn't the scope of diversity in films in 2014.
Perhaps not in 2015 either.

8. Do you have any thoughts on the Selma snubs?
As I wrote above - it is pretty unusual for a movie to be nominated for Best Picture and not to have its actors, writer, or director nominated as well.
Not really.

9. American Sniper? Over Selma? No agenda there.
Is Fred even a Negro?

40. Women and minorities have advanced little in the Hollywood power structure and accolades industry in two generations, there is a Berlin Wall of secrecy protecting a preservation of the status quo, I think.
A what?

43. The Academy is slumming it. "American Sniper" should be given no positive publicity considering the background of Mr. Kyle.
Leftist hate the military. Always.

59. It really is disgraceful that Selma did not get more nominations
If I could vote for the Oscars it would have certainly got my pick for Best Picture and Best Director, and it should have at least been nominated for Best Actor as well.
I hope that Academy voters recognize that it deserved better and I hope they do the same thing as they did when Ben Affleck was snubbed for Argo a couple years back. If they can't vote for Duvernay as Best Director then they should cast their votes for her on the Best Picture ballot instead.
Bjorn (which isn't a Negro name, BTW...) started his/her/it's own thread with this story...
