French journalist on CNN is claiming that it is offensive to the French people

that President Obama was not at the rally. Really? With the kind of security issues he would face in a crowd of about a million people is scary. She felt that there was not enough representation from America. Always the President's fault. That man cannot win for losing.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026072517

No way a big shot VIP like Barry could go to that puny rally.  Mfcorey1 has a point, it does seem like it's always the president's fault.  Don't worry DUmmies, all I've ever heard is that the europeans all love Barry...or they used to, anyway.  He can just give the people of France free community college and this will all blow over like it never happened.

4. The security would have been an immense hassle.

But I do think that our representation was a little thin.

Kerry is in India. I wonder where Biden is.
No way a man of Barry's stature could have gone.  It would have been all about him.  He would have made it all about him, that is.  If he would have gone, that is.

5. It would be ridiculous for him to be there

Too much of the focus would be on him and not on the French people and their tragedy.

On the other hand, I do wish he had sent someone, but I'm sure the our ambassador to France has done...whatever ambassadors do at this time.

26. No he wasn't

He came to France and gave a speech on the tragedy but did not attend the rally.
Holder was in town but they are saying that he didn't go to the rally because he was attending some important meeting, but nobody can figure out who he was meeting with since everybody who is anybody was at the rally.

Here, oberliner makes another DUmmy look like a fool:

If you go to www.jihadwatch.org they have a picture of --Palestine president Mahmud Abbas ---grinning big as he can while all the other leaders look very serious.

That's probably true.

But also, every time since the end of WWII, whenever American security interests have been at stake, the French have told us to go pound sand.

France can go to hell.

Of course that's where their domestic policies are taking them anyway.

There is the fact that since Obama has assumed to be president, that France has taken a leadership role in world affairs regarding terrorism .

White House: US should have sent other officials to Paris

Source: AP-Excite

By JULIE PACE

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a rare public admission of error, the White House said Monday the U.S. should have sent a high-level official to an anti-terror march in Paris that was attended by more than 40 world leaders.

The Obama administration was represented Sunday by the U.S. ambassador to France, though Attorney General Eric Holder was in Paris for security meetings.

"It's fair to say we should have sent someone with a higher profile," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. Secretary of State John Kerry was on a long-planned trip to India on Sunday but now will visit France later this week.

The White House appeared to have been caught off guard by both the display of international unity at the Paris march and the criticism of its decision to be represented only by Ambassador Jane Huntley. Monday's admission of error seemed aimed at blunting criticism that the decision was tone deaf or disrespectful of the long U.S. alliance with France, a country set on edge by three days of terror that resulted in 17 deaths.

FULL story at link.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry speaks at a press conference in Gandhinagar, India, Monday, Jan. 12, 2015. Kerry said he will travel to Paris this week for talks on countering extremist violence, following sharp criticism of the Obama administration for not sending a senior official to Sunday's rally for unity in Paris that was attended by some 40 world leaders and more than a million people. My first post in this thread was a bit off the cuff not totally understanding what this rally actually was.
After learning more about it I think my gut reaction was very much accurate,in the world of diplomacy and sending signals I am convinced he wanted to give a message to islamists that he was looking away.  :censored:

Doesn't matter.

I heard that at the last minute Joe Biden was asked to represent the U.S. in Paris.

Later that evening, the Vice President placed an urgent call to the White House from Paris, Kentucky.
