Freedom of speech (guaranteed in France under a number of laws) rides supreme over somebody's perception that what Charlie Hebdo was doing was vulgar.

Freedom of speech means Charlie Hebdo had the legal right to be obnoxious. Freedom of speech means Muslims had the right to condemn Charlie hebdo as vociferously as these chose. Committing mass muuder is not free speech, it's just mass murder; and the obnoxiousness of the victims does not in the least mitigate that fact.
