OhioChick (21,664 posts) http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014982907Gunmen who stormed Charlie Hebdo offices, killing 12, have reportedly been arrestedBrothers Said Kouachi, 34, and Sherif Kouachi, 32 and 18-year-old homeless man Hamid Mourai, all French citizens of Algerian descent, were named in a police statement released Wednesday evening.Investigators quickly identified the brothers because they left their identification cards behind when fleeing the stolen black Citroen they have been seen utilizing in video of the assault, according to TFI.

Bjorn Against (10,691 posts) 10. I suspect there is more to the storyThe way it was worded suggests all three of them left their IDs behind, the probability of that happening on accident is virtually zero. I see three possibilities. 1. They left them behind on purpose as a way of taking credit. 2. They were framed. 3. The police tracked them down a different way but don't want to reveal how they found them so they made up the story about the IDs. I don't know which of those is correct but any of those three scenarios seems far more likely than them losing their IDs at the scene.

Matariki (16,080 posts) 15. In which case why didn't they leave their IDs at home. Or have fake ones?I'm also a bit skeptical. But who knows?
notadmblnd (19,285 posts) 5. Just like on 911Except these guys have apparently forsaken suicide. I wonder what it is with terrorists leaving their ID behind?
Matariki (16,080 posts) 14. "they left their identification cards behind"That just seems weird. I've been wondering if this all is what it seems. From what I've been reading, the gunmen made quite the point of shouting they were "Al Qaeda from Yemen" and spoke unaccented French. Could be they wanted to make a point, or could be people who want to get away with something and have it blamed on other people <shrug>
gregcrawford (166 posts) 24. I dunno guys... attributing intelligence to religious fanatics is always a shaky premise. If they were smart enough to evade capture for more than a few hours, they wouldn't BE religious fanatics. It's not unreasonable to suspect that far more malevolent actors used these clowns the same way J. Edgar Hoover used Sirhan Sirhan and James Earle Ray back in '68. Then they planted the I.D.s to cut off further investigation.
