Sir, where I live is far better than most of America in regards to public transport, and even here, the options suck.

You however aren't one of those to whom my doubts and criticisms are expressed, because you're not advocating mass transit for the hoi polloi.   Atman on the other hand belongs to an influential political group that thinks everybody but the elites should have to use mass transit.

And so despite the state of mass transit where he lives, he should take the lead in using mass transit, providing the rest of us peons with an example to follow.

I don't know what gives the primitives the silly idea that they should be exempt from their own expectations; they shouldn't only not be exempt, but they should also be the first.

Let me know how that works out for you when you don't get home until 9:00  because you wasted two hours of your day walking from one bus stop to another and waiting for the damn bus to show up.

Actually, in Nashville I used our public transportation system for about 2 months.  My car had broke down, and my State job paid for it.  It actually wasn't that bad, I just like my own freedom to much.  Plus instead of leaving my house at 6:30 to get there I had to be at the bus stop at 5:30.  And I hate getting up earlier than I have to.

At the apartment I was living in, I was two miles from the nearest bus stop.  Combine that with the location I worked and the intermittent schedule on that road, I was getting up early and wasn't getting home until well after dark.  If I had to do anything that day, I wasn't getting home until 9-10pm after waiting in line at the Wal-Mart on Harding Road.

Yeah, I lived in the barrio.  It sucked.

It's fine in the short term... I can deal with it.  But doing it for a year or longer and you find all kinds of downsides to public transport.

Yeah I agree.  I am just like my freedom to much, I like to be able to go where I want when I want.  I would also run into problem if the guys wanted a drink or something after work.  Couldn't stay as late as I wanted, etc...

Most of the time, no one's on board except the driver.

They're a bigger waste of taxpayers' money than electric cars.

But the next big thing will probably be million-dollar electric buses. Empty electric buses.

We have electric buses that run downtown and many of them are free to ride.  Karl Dean is the worst mayor I've seen here in nearly 40 years.

6. BTW, I live in rural CT...farm country.

There are three "local" gas stations nearby. Their price-per-gallon varies by 10-20 cents on any given day. The closest to us is on the nearby state road connecting to the interstate into Hartford...$4.10. Further on up the road, just before the interstate, it's $4.15. But if I drive in the other direction, toward the low-rent area of Willimantic, gas is 20-30 cents cheaper.

San Diego has mass transit.

And besides, she really doesn't go to all these places to cover "news stories;" she lays on the couch all day, munching on handfuls of chocolate bonbons as if popcorn, listening to her superduper police scanner, and making up stories from that.

Buses were packed in mornings going downtown and in the evenings going back.  All the State workers get a Pass that lets them ride two times a day.  So it's full of state workers.  And I had not choice but to ride the bus for a few months, there were a lot of full buses.  Not NY style or anything.  Oh, also kids rid them to and from schools.

I guess the new million-dollar bus terminal downtown is nicer than the shacks that were up on Demonbreun way back when.  They have Dunkin Donuts paying rent there, but it doesn't seem to have lowered fare prices.  It was a buck forty to ride when I was in high school, with a ten cent transfer.  Now, if you want to ride somewhere, it's $1.60 for a one-way trip and costs twice that if you're going anywhere that isn't downtown.

Yep, and a I guarantee we will her his name again in 2016.

And as I have said before if we use this "primitive logic" the Great Economy the Clinton years brought were actually Reagan and Bush Sr. doings.  While the recession, 9-11, and high gas prices during W's years can be attributed to Clinton.  I am not so naive to think past Presidents do not affect the current Presidents situation, but everything is not BUSH'S fault!
