It takes money -- big money -- for any entity to have a continuing presence and to get its message across to the public nowadays. This is true for your local state university that's had its funding cut to the nubs, or a teaching hospital with dwindling assets, or for good groups like People for the American Way. You seem to be taking Al to task on two points: for inheriting money, and for making money. I say Al's okay, and there's no better warrior in the cause to save this planet.
