EXCLUSIVE: Obama's $500,000 book bonanza
« on: March 19, 2009, 10:44:24 AM »

Quote
As he empathized with recession-weary Americans, President Obama arranged in the days just before he took office to secure a $500,000 advance for a children's book project, a disclosure report shows.

The terms of the book deal were disclosed in a Senate financial disclosure report filed Tuesday.

Analysts say there don't appear to be any rules that would bar such transactions after a president takes office, but it's unclear whether an incoming or sitting president has ever signed a book deal upon entering the White House.

"I don't recall any sitting president entering into a book deal," said campaign finance lawyer Jan Baran, former general counsel to the Republican National Committee. "They all have historically done that after they leave office.  ...

I wonder if he will pay the taxes on his advance......nobody else in his administration seems to "pay their fair share"....but they sure as hell expect the rest of us to pay ours......

Probably getting what he can while he can--you think anyone's gonna read about this failure after he leaves office?

I tend to agree with the above, and as much as I hate to say it, this may have been his best move since winning in November. (My inner Capitalist can't help but applaud) Hey, I said I would stand with the guy when he was right and this is my first chance to do so. All that said, given the pace at which he is screwing the economy, he should have fought for a lot more than a lousy half Mil.

"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

From what I read about this, he has to do nothing to earn this money.  The publisher is going to edit one of his books to make it "child-friendly", and all 0Bama has to do is sign off on the final edit.  Wouldn't this be considered a "windfall profit", and shouldn't he be highly taxed on those profits as congress wanted to do with the oil companies.  :fuelfire:

It's a "childrens book project".  They'll be the only ones who will believe anything he says by then....and DUmmies of course, who have the intellect of children as well.

Why not ? I hear he is quite handy with a sickle, so using a hammer as well should come naturally....
