My College Age Son Says He Wants to Vote for Barack Obama! WTF?

What happened with U. T.'s tuition fees? Once a great bargan, they are now no different than SUNY's or other State Universities! Alternately, the "Perfessers" used to be apolitical in class and on campus too...what happened?

I have heard that one many, many times and it fits perfectly for those in school who are working hard and EARN their grades.  It is very simple for them to understand and they are on the ground, so to speak, and see what those who are getting poor grades are doing with THEIR free time.

I've used the same anaology with all of my kids.  I'm fairly certain my son voted for McCain but I can't say for 100%.  I did vote for one democrat this year, her name is Karen Guerra and is running for Judge of the 16th District Court.  My good friend worked for the incumbent Republican and talked me into voting for the democrat (my friend is what you would consider a "right winger").  She even went as far to write a letter to the editor about it, she felt that strongly.

I voted for a couple of democrats, several libertarians and a couple of republicans.  I do my research and make my choices.  Jim McReynolds is one of the dems I voted for .... he's one of the good guys.

I know I don't have to say this but I am anyway (and I'm on steroids so I am automatically pissed off), don't diss my kid.

1.)  He said he wouldn't raise the capital gains tax to collect more taxes for the government but because that is what is FAIR.

2.)  He wants to spread the wealth.

Those 2 things alone make it impossible to vote for any person wanting to govern the U. S. A.

I am sure that was a typo, but he said he would raise capital gains taxes, even though that would decrease gov't revenues and discourage savings and investment, because of a "fairness issue".

Actually I worded it poorly.  What I was saying was he said he wouldn't raise it because it would bring in more taxes but rather he WOULD raise it because it was fair.

I sent him an e-mail yesterday morning and just laid it out and how it personally would affect OUR family.  Money would not be flowing as freely in the family (not that it flows all that freely anyway) but his plane trips from there to here paid for by mom and dad would be nonexistent, that Christmas cash he counts on every year would be curtailed and those little "loans" (which are never paid back) would be few and far between, if ever. 

I told him those weren't threats or punishments - just merely the facts of dealing with the realities of an economy where money is taken from the rich and given to the poor.  I told him all of our retirement planning would have to be reworked and golly gee, there might not be as much money left for him in our wills.   He's an only child. 

   

His major is communications and he's got a pretty good chance of getting a job either in TV or radio.  I told him that those businesses would be affected as well.  People would not be able to afford advertising and revenues for radio and TV stations would be down and they might not be ble to afford to hire people.
