I Just Had A Talk With A Nice Canadian Lady

 couldn't find a part# for an O-ring for my water filter, so I called the company, which is Canadian, for help.

I got a nice lady on the phone and she asked where I was calling from and I said Pennsylvania. She says, Oh, the states. I quickly say, I didn't vote for Trump. She laughs and told me I wouldn't believe how many Americans apologized to her about Trump. I told her to add me to the list, she says, not necessary, I say yes it is, it makes me feel better. She says hopefully it will be over soon, November, right? I say to her that if we don't win this election it will be over. She says I will be watching with good vibes. I talked to her 10 more minutes about the good times I had in Canada, we agreed that the people in Montreal were a bit gruff.

Oh yeah, I say, about my O-ring. She gave me the part# and a US company to order it from, it's on the way. Dammit, Canadians are nice people.

Unless we missed one or several, I'm waiting for a taxicab or Uber/Lyft politics bouncy. Hell, even a DoorDash or UberEats bouncy would suffice.

I've had a few call center jobs, high on the list of things you DON'T do is engage in political talk.  If the customer says something, just give a noncommittal response and move on to the job, or ignore it completely.  Bosses can be listening at any time, customers can turn things around on you in a heartbeat and get you written up and it ain't worth it.  So yeah, I call baloney sauce.

1. Call center calls are pretty much ALWAYS recorded and retained at least for however many years might be relevant in potential lawsuits' statutes of limitations. Many workers have time-to-resolution or number of calls quotas they must meet. So, yeah, a call center worker is not going to deviate from their script and job's purpose to burn time chatting about another country's politics.

2. I do not mean this in any demeaning way, but standard customer-facing/hearing interaction is all but literally scripted. That smiling Walmart greeter might, IRL, hate you or all customers, but they will still smile and greet you politely.
