Food bank at St. Stephen's Phoenix reminder

2310 N. 56th Street in Phoenix. We are located by the Papago Buttes for those not familiar with the area and are between East Oak and East Thomas. Hours are 9a to noon.

You will need photo identification. If you know anyone who need help this is a good way to get food. Besides the box (2 boxes if the family is 8 or more) families also receive meat, dairy and veggies. This is delivery day which means there could be lots of goodies. We have volunteers who go to St. Mary's once a week to shopping for produce, milk and other items.

If you would like to help we could use help with pet food.

Holy crap! The hypocrisy is breath taking.  :???:

On a side note...

I faintly recall as a young lag, about 5 years of age, going with my mother to pick up our ration of Government Cheese, Peanut Butter, Real Butter, and Crackers. I dont remember if there was any other commodities offered. But I do know one thing, that block of "cheese" made the best damn grilled cheese sammich ever!  :-)

I faintly remember our family having to do something like that as well.  Not for a long time, but I know there was some government assistance in our lives at some point ... until my dad found out.  He put a stop to it, I do remember that.

We were raised very poor, but us kids didn't know it until we got up into high school.  I was bound and determined that wouldn't be something I would ever do, and I haven't.  Times got really tight sometimes when the wife and I were young, but we did what we had to and now we're blessed beyond what we ever thought we would be.

Im not sure how long my mother received assistance. She was divorced from my father who was in and out of Jail and an abusive P.O.S. She eventually remarried and our Step-Father treated us just like we were his own. I wish I could have appreciated him more at the time. But thats how it goes sometimes.  :bawl:

I have no grievance nor do I pass judgement on anyone who needs a helping hand. But some people just abuse the hell out of it. Thats for sure.
