Looking For A Job Today AND....... WTF

I am testing next week for a Class A CDL and am being proactive in my job search.

Well I found an ad for a local distribution company that supply's restaurants and stores with food related products.

Now remember this is a job to just drive a truck with a 53ft trailer around the region in various types of traffic situations.

Besides the normal ladadadah...must have 2 years experience blah blah blah, it also said...wait for it...wait for it...MUST HAVE A BACHELORS IN TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT...yes to drive a truck. This is the first time I have seen this requirement and the position only pays $18.00 an hour.

My wife and I talked it out a bit to find the rational and the only thing that was reasonable was they want someone who has debt they need to pay off so there is a stronger commitment to the job and nothing else.

I am beginning to believe more and more that collusion is taking place with employers, higher education and financial institutions to see that we are in debt thus making us slaves to the system.

A 4 year degree to drive a TRUCK...kidding me?

7. It automatically eliminates a huge number of applicants and saves the hiring manager's time.

10. My guess?

They already have someone in mind they want to hire, and are just posting a ridiculous qualification to keep the number of competing applications down.

Sorry, whoever merged that, but this is not the same thread.

Sorry, whoever merged that, but this is not the same thread.

I didn't merge it, but I think why it was merged was I had posted this thread in the other Rsmith thread instead of starting a new one.

This probably does deserve its own thread.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Either that or reading comprehension fail on the original ad. Given the degree requirement my guess is that the ad was for a manager of the guys that drive the trucks and the CDL requirement was for either an occasional fill in role or to make sure the applicant understood what the job actually required???

FWIW - Frank

I have a friend in the trucking industry and there are ZERO jobs for $18/hr to someone just out of driving school. There are starter jobs that pay by the mile and you start off with a team partner because those are long and heavy trailers that they move around. The companies all tell you that you will be driving the maximum hours you can but the reality is that there will be days on the side of the road waiting to pick up or drop off a load. New hires are lucky to make $300 a week gross. The people that schedule the truckers make in the $10-12/hr range.

Smart money says that the DUchebag is not doing anything at all in the trucking field and all of these are just bouncies.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I'm thinking this might have something to do with an ice cream truck.

I am in the business he is describing, and we do not require bachelors degrees for the drivers.  But that's not the main problem for Rsmith.  We require extremely nice and helpful people, because whoever drives the truck, plus his helper, interact with the customer one-on-one.  We can't be having some nasty jerk staging tirades and caustic conversations about politics, religion, guns, or anything else.  Applicaton rejected.

That was pretty comical, the rationale he and his wife dreamt up.  What a pair they are.

A reminder of rsmithnumbers's eloquence, from the cover letter he composed for his wife's resume:

Quote
Dear Recruiter,

I am a middle age grandma who was displaced by my previous employer over a year ago. I have kept up a diligent effort to find new work from day one with only a few employers looking at my resume and others I doubt have looked at it all,I have interviewed and weeks later been told I am not qualified for the position I applied for that is if they respond at all.

My resume demonstrates that I have the qualities and qualifications that your posting has asked candidates to have,I know others may meet this standard as well. So why should you offer me the job?, I am someone who will be at work everyday on time,in fact I'll be 15 minutes early. I will give you 9 hours work for 8 hours pay. I will not play inter office games and I will mind my own business when it is not business related. I will also not be sizing people up based on their image,I accept people as they are. My biggest strength is that I will follow through to the best of my ability so that both the company and customer have an outcome that is beneficial to both parties.

So now you know who I am and what to expect from me. I just need to get back to work so I can assist in changing at least one life, that being my granddaughter.

Sincerely,
