Oh yeah.
It still strikes me the wrong way that Socialist Steve Dawes is part of the 1% when it comes to politicians who have their official campaign picture taken without an American flag in the background.
True; in Bellevue, Nebraska, it's a good idea to have the American flag in the background, or at least an American flag pin on the lapel, when campaigning for public office, no matter how minor. The couple of times I ran across other Democrats running for one office or another in Bellevue, yup, they had the flag.
Now, I'm getting slowly geared up for "Be Nice to the Primitives Week," which starts in a few days, and so I'll say this: perhaps the studio portrait was taken for more than one purpose. After all, professional photographs aren't cheap. Maybe the long-suffering Marta also wanted a "nice" photograph of the big guy for when after he's no longer in this Time and Place, to slip inside of a Bible or something, for her to gaze upon when she needs something for solace in her widowhood.
