Last month the wife and I went on a school field trip with my daughter's class. Because we have her in a Charter, we are required to put in a certain ammount of "parent time" each year.
Each year the 8th grade class goes on a hike up Brokeoff Mt, in Lassen Nat'l park. Because it's an entire day we wipe out our hours in one trip, so it works out well.
The trail starts out at 6000+ feet and ends at Brokeoff which is 9200 ft in abut 3.2 miles. This is a 2600 ft elevation change that's fairly steep.
