Bad problems
« on: May 02, 2009, 01:35:37 PM »
It appears as if my PC has gotten a virus, trojan or something. It has disabled my anti-virus program (ATT Security Suite) and I can't get it going again. It has disabled my 5-in-1 drive (with SD card reader). It has taken some measure of control of Firefox. For instance if I do a search in Yahoo that has multiple pages when I click on "2" to go to the second page it takes me to another random website.

I ran Exterminator 2 from PCPitstop and it supposedly found and quarantined Trojan.Crypt.FKM.Gen and Trojan.Win32.Vundo.Gen, but that apparently hasn't solved anything.

Immediately after startup I get the message: "Windows - No Disk    Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c" I also get this message when I start some programs such as Spybot.

I've installed Avast in safe mode and it came up clean; however, if I try to start in normal mode with Avast installed I get the BSOD. With Avast UNinstalled it will start in normal mode, but still with the previously mentioned problems.

At the end of my rope, I installed the free version of Prevx 3.00, and it claims to have found 18 "threats". I don't know anything about Prevx so I don't know how reliable it is. Also, to clean those 18 "threats" you have to have the pay version, and as things stand now I'm somewhat scared of entering my credit card number even into a secure website.

I'm running WindowsXP on a Dell Thanks-for-calling-India Dimension.

Any one have any suggestions?

OK, go over there and then get AVG trial download, burn it to CD. Uninstall any other virus program that you have recently installed and install AVG from CD. Update it and run it. and, while you're at it, do the same with malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes

AVG Trial

One thing that I forgot to add in my original post is that it's also disabled my System Restore. I can't restore from a previous point or create a new restore point if though System Restore is turned on.

Is your 5-in1 card reader on a usb port or built in?  Searching google and several people have had problems with it being a card reader.  Problems may have started after windows updates or even transferring data from a card with the reader. A quick way to check, would be to insert a memory card into the reader.  Two solutions offered for that problem was to clear the most recent documents list, or to uninstall the card reader from the device manager, then do a restart.

It's built in, but I'm having enough other stuff going screwy that I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. Earlier I did clear the document list just to be on the safe side, but it didn't help. I've tried with a card in the reader and without.

I had just a done quick search for: "Windows - No Disk    Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c" , and got a whole bunch of results for that exact thing.  Very few mentions of viruses.

From my own experience "windows- No Disk" means that some program is looking for required data that is on a removable drive/storage device.  Have you used a thumb drive recently?

No. No thumb drive. I probably did the same search that you did. I didn't start out thinking this was a virus problem. I figured that the reader had just died. I didn't think anything about a virus until I noticed that my anti-virus program was disabled and anytime I tried to go to the second page of a Yahoo search I got hijacked elsewhere. Of course it could be two separate issues.
