"Horrific abuses and tortures perpetrated by this country at Gitmo, Abu Ghraib and elsewhere"?

Get off it.

Abu Ghraib was manufactured by the advocacy/adversary media who opposed Operation Iraqi Freedom from the outset. And the U.S. military dropped the ball in handling that, before and after. BTW: If embarrassment of the Islmaofacists constitutes torture, then, let's drive on, shall we? Drive on hard.

Gitmo? Did we gain useful intelligence? Yes. Did anyone die? None of which we know, and we would know. Especailly not here in the U.S. in the past seven years.

Have the prisoners there been living better, with more rights, than POWs or suspected terrorists elsewhere?

And elsewhere? Well, just where elsewhere? Who, what, when and how?

BTW: All those who are not Democrats, liberals, leftists, anarchists, libertarians, etc., are not Republicans. There are many of us who are conservatives. BIG difference that being a Republican or those other things.

BTW2: Actually, I am afraid.

I'm afraid that navel-gazing, ill-informed, knee-jerk remarks and sentiments such as those highlighted by LG EFA -- [those of skepticscott  Donating Member  (1000+ posts) Thu Jan-22-09 10:21 PM Original message Why are they afraid?] constitute a threat to the security of our country. And our society.

BTW3: Some of us are too old now to serve, again or the first time, in uniform. But I wonder: For skepticscott and those of his ilk: How many of them ever laced up a pair of combat boots or slung a rifle over their shoulder while in uniform?

That they can whine and moan so is indeed a testament to the sacrifices of all who've served. Including those who gave life or limb, mind, whatever, to preserve our freedoms.

Oh, yes: Even while the Democrats under the Clintons did what they did in and to America, I never, lots of people never "hated" what it became. We simply understood that a change was needed. "Hate" seems to be a word the Democrats, liberals and leftists use a lot, especially of things with which they disagree or find objectionable.

As for betraying principles, that's rich. You've got have principles to betray them, something skepticscott may not realize.

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ! For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity and freedom of worship here." -- Patrick Henry, 1765
