However, that doesn't mean it still can't be sold for a halfway decent price, enabling Mama MVD, provided she kicks Matty Boy out, to pay cash for a small one-bedroom place in a retirement community.

I've been reading a lot about the history of lobotomies, and I'm wondering if that procedure might not be a great help to the subway cat, the UndergroundPanther, and to Matty Boy.  Even if such were to turn out badly for one, or either both, of them, nothing much would be lost.  They might not even notice.

I also think that at some point about 2 - 3 years ago, mom told Mattie Boi that she wasn't going to continue to fund his lifestyle. He's got a roof over his head, food in the fridge and the heat, light, innerwebz and etc. that the rest of the house is wired for, but that's it. Hence the reason Matt has shot down every attempt to get him in contact with social services: he doesn't have the basic needs issues, he's just using it as the story to get the DUm'Rats to chip in. What he wants/needs is the money, which mom has been too stingey to spring for anymore.

Something else that is a good possibility, and this may have been mentioned at some point in the past.

Someone is simply using Matts info. Maybe a relative or friend. Someone who knows of Matt, and is just assuming his identity. They know enough to run a scam. They have a couple photos of Matt and his Mom. Or a couple photos of somebody who will pass the sniff test just enough. A frail old lady, and a dumpy looking son. Easy enough.

It would be fascinating if a DUmp user would offer to hand deliver some cash or grocery/gift cards directly to Matts place. Something tells me, someone else will answer the door who looks neither like Matt. Or his Mom.

I could be wrong as well. Maybe some lurking DUmp user will at least indulge this idea, and ask Matt to meet up. I want to see his deflection. So far, he really hasnt been challenged. Hell, he collected 10K before anyone asked any real questions.

37. Got bad news about the water heater

It is 10 years old and someone gave a free consultation. He says the pilot light is broken and the water heater needs to be replaced. Of course I don’t have $5,000 for that. But the first thing I am trying is house buyers. Need to move anyway.

That these “donations” are coming from DU. It’s either seed money or his fundraising plea is cross posted to many sites.

I was gonna post earlier that he might really have a fund-raising winner.  He could claim that he wanted to get the latest greatest eco-friendly hot water heater that heated water using nothing but CO2 recaptured from the environment and exhausted nothing but unicorn farts.  ORRR...he'd be forced to buy a WWII-era coal-fired hot water heater, recovered from an East German scrapyard, that, due to some bizarre Nazi engineering, actually produces more pollution than all of the US power plants combined.

The super eco-friendly unit would only cost 5 or 6 grand, but he could hock some of his Mom's stuff to get the other one.  One good thing about the coal-fired heater is that it had to be hand stoked, so his Mom would get her exercise working in the Boiler Room (he'd help but he has a bad back, worn down from his years of doing nothing).

So, there would be two options for the DU crowd.  Donate and save the Earth.  Or don't donate and cause the demise of the Earth and doom his mother to a life of shoveling coal.  As an added bonus, he could throw in some sort of reference to supporting Hitler or Nazis.

I actually did speculate that he'd go for $5K for this, because the most expensive top-of-the-line hot water heaters are around $4K and $1K to install it would seem reasonable to someone who claimed he needed $200 to have the guts in his toilet changed.  He beat me to the punchline, but he does have more experience begging than I do.

50. I'm closing this

I greatly appreciate DU but it seems some just don’t understand. If you get tired of these, it is nothing like being in this situation. Asking for continued good vibes that mom feels better and that we have a more stress free life.
