BIL has had TWO strokes in 7 days

He is 62. Has never had a job with a pension. He had the chance about 15 years ago and turned it down. He told the employer he can't work the graveyard shift in the convenience store any more because they only have 1 employee on duty for those hours. He can't afford to take time off and is going back to work Monday afternoon. I'm afraid the R plan of work till you drop is what he is going to do

1. The next one will likely be the main event and that's very sad

I'm guessing they were small strokes on the right side. Those can affect judgment pretty severely and that's most likely what is going on. I hope you're managing to get daily aspirins into him, they can limit the extent of the major stroke he's working into although they won't prevent it.

If he's got any weakness on his left side, the strokes are on the right side of his brain. The opposite is also true.

I don't know what else to tell you. Your only alternative is to knock him over the head and drag him into the ER and the cops frown on that sort of thing.

2. Get the rest of the family, tie him up while he's sleeping....

then drag him in. I am not joking. He's already been damaged, the hope is to limit it. He may think that he can't afford time off, but if he doesn't he may be off work permanently. Please let us know how it goes.

3. What would his Social Security be if he retired now?

I realize it's not ideal because the benefit is reduced, but it might be worth looking into. If and when he feels better, he could work part time or even full time to supplement it. You can find out here:

http://www.ssa.gov/retire/estimator.html

I will say though, it's hard to get men to stop working. My dad was still working at 70 after some moderate strokes. Then he had the big one and eventually died.

^^^probably the best solution.

So, BIL refuses to take a job with a pension, has strokes, and this is the Republican's fault ?

And anyway - this is the glorious time of Obamacare. Doctor Obama & his team will be certain that Dawes' BIL will get all the care he needs, right ?

He was 47 and his career peak was a convenience store clerk and even then was being a prick.

Maybe the Big Guy (who is dying) really does have some kind of brain rot.

His writing has always reflected someone dumber than a bag of rocks, but this post goes beyond dumb, into special needs territory.

None of these things, though they're all squashed together in one paragraph, relate to one another.

It's like when I read something from nadin - my brain feels sore, like it's sprained.

I hope the Big Guy (who is dying) keeps posting. Progressive brain rot could put him into the Top Five.

6. Very sorry to read this...

Will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers...

If rosesaylavee was really sorry to get this news then he/she/it would be sending out some healing vibes.

But alas, the neckbeards's BIL only rates thoughts and prayers...

I'm in my early 60s, so I don't love hearing of some one ~ my age suffering, but for heaven's sake!

* What is a 60-something doing working as a convenience store clerk unless the 60-something is the owner? That's and entry-level or one step above entry-level job! That's a job for college students who are getting an education!

* As miskie asked, what happened to the ObamaCare panacea? Reality not living up to the hype?

* Unless NE - or wherever OS's BIL lives - is very different from CA, a glance at BIL's paycheck stub would reveal a deduction for something called "SDI" or "DI". The "DI" refers to Disability Insurance, paying the premiums for which is/was part of BIL's compensation (probably half directly from the employer, and half deducted from BIL's paycheck). Depending on the terms, DI typically covers 2/3-3/4 of a person's salary, with some employers supplementing the payments from DI.

* Then there's SSDI, if BIL is disabled long-term.

* As for retirement, Part 1, BIL may be eligible for SS, though not what he would have received had BIL been able to wait to retire.

* As for retirement, Part 2, BIL should be able to receive income from his IRAs and/or 401Ks. Unless BIL CHOSE not to contribute to IRAs and/or 401Ks.

* As for "... the R plan of work till you drop ..." OS really should learn that believing one's partisan propaganda is not conducive to a happy life and a reasonable grasp of reality. IIRC, IRAs and 401Ks were enacted/created during the Reagan Administration.
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.
