I was approached by a publisher who liked my writing,
and offered me a book deal.I considered it,
I would have possibly made a decent amount
but I decided not to publish my writings in book form Why?
Because I wanted my thoughts to be SHARED.
I value walking my talk over
perpetuating the myth of property or copyright.
So I put my thoughts on the web. My art.
I wanted people to read it,copy it ,distribute it,
expand it,use it,share it, create different ideas with it,
and enjoy it without MONEY or bullshit property theft
entering into the equation.
I never owned anything.Fact is nobody owns anything,
for once it leaves their mind
in word song or art it is out there.
Inspiring others.That is reality.
Once my idea is expressed,in any form it
is no longer mine. It is communication
and it is a gift for anyone to use.
That is reality.
I create and let it go.I don't own my art
or words anymore than I own the air I breathe.
When I die I will no longer "own" my body
it dissolves into the Earth.Disappears.
All my stuff I never really possessed is no longer
called mine and it goes to other people's hands.
What about this fact of REALITY these ****ers don't GET!!!
WTF is wrong with people that they cannot face reality
Scared to think we own nothing?

Intellectual "property" does not behave like material property. If I give you a physical object I may no longer have use or control of that thing, and may ask for something in return -- some payment or barter. But when I give you an idea, I lose nothing. I can still use that idea as I wish. I need ask nothing in return.
The laws of exchange of matter being so very different from the laws of exchange of information, any attempt to trade ideas with material goods was destined for trouble sooner or later.
Not only do people hold on to ideas for material gain, they also hang on to them for psychological gain. The ego likes to be identified as the source of a particular insight or concept. But what right has the ego to attach itself to something that was never its in the first place?
We say "an idea came to me". I did not make it happen. What I do is shape the ideas "that come" into forms -- usually words and images -- that satisfy me, and hopefully communicate something to others. If I am to be paid for my work (which I am not averse to), I should be paid for my time and energy, not some dubious concept of intellectual property.
Thoughts are free. They should remain free, and be given freely.
And, following the universal law, the more we give the more we shall receive.

I know I bring up Blackie, The Ghost Chicken in almost every thread concerning UP, but it is comic gold. Of course, I would have to say that the Astral Travel to Visit the Spirit Panthers at Panther Mountain tale was probably top 10 material.

I used to have a pet rooster. He was the coolest bird ever.
I got him as a chick,he was a black cute chirpy puffball.I named him Blackie.Most chicks are yellow but Blackie stood out with his inky feathers.He grew up into a handsome jungle fowl rooster with 6 inch dagger like spurs on his ankles that were used against a bullying dog named chipper,who intimidated and chased my dog Mikey.
I dream of him once in awhile.Sometimes I see his spirit in a tree in the backyard,or walking around.I even saw him in the hospital along with my cat when I had surgery(pre-op)making sure all was ok.. I see his head bobbing back and forth out of the corner of my eye in the house too.I get messages from him. Here is one I had awhile ago and my thoughts on it.

He walked to texas and to a veterinary lab facility there. I followed him. They got sick.I saw a few people getting sick from them.The Chickens were angry and calling justice upon the people handling them in factory farms for mistreating them.Blackie warned me about Bird Flu,before it hit the news.I just didn't know it until after the fact..
Blackie was saying he was confused about humans. He wants people to understand chickens have spirits too and they feel and they are not stupid. He told me the spirits of chickens at factory farms are in anguish they are confused and they linger around the Earth because they don't know what to do.They are angry and traumatized and they are causing problems because nobody cares about their spirits as if they don't have spirits. So they are stuck in a kind of limbo.

I remember someone commenting on Tom Cruise's scientology video. I think that this is much the same. Obvious delusions of grandeurof it's own writings, obviously she also wants to be a martyr (releasing it's grand creations for free), and paranoia (the corporations are out to steal from it).

If you want to give away your work for free on the basis that art and karma are more important than money, that is your right. Equally, if others want to sell or license their copyright to publishers in exchange for money that is their right, and it does not constitute any kind of fraud.

If you'd get out from behind that keyboard and venture into the real world, you might find that there are people who could use your help, people with problems like homelessness, hunger, sick children, sick parents, job losses, no income, no hope.
You can afford to sit and pretend you're an artist, but, alas, you are not. Because the first hallmark of an artist is courage, something you obviously are sorely lacking.

You can afford to sit and pretend you're an artist, but, alas, you are not. Because the first hallmark of an artist is courage, something you obviously are sorely lacking.

I think you're very disturbed, not playing with a full deck, and probably need either more or less medication than you are on. Corporations yeah whatever. I like using my computer to automate things or at least make them easier and I'm not a corporation. I was making a point about technology's influence on medicine...for someone who condemns copyright as a form of egotism you're sure eager to re-interpret everything to echo own outlook. That's your right, though it makes me wonder how you can stand to use your corporately-manufactured computer.

I'm sure the computer was hand-crafted by Hopi Indians that worked merely for the joy of creating a tool that UP would find useful. Of course they wouldn't expect anything so common as *money* in exchange for their hard work, but instead left it in a basket (woven by other Hopi Indians under similar conditions) on UP's front doorstep.

I read the entire thread over at DU. ( Not the original posters screeds though.) People like this Underground Panther are amazing. It leaches off of others but feels superior to people who make their own way in this world and actually derides them! Every post is ME! ME! ME!
