Rep. Waxman, key ObamaCare architect, to retire after 20 terms in office

Longtime Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman announced Thursday he will not seek reelection in the fall, becoming the latest architect of the Affordable Care Act to announce his retirement.

"After 40 years in Congress, it's time for someone else to have the chance to make his or her mark," the California congressman said in a statement.

Waxman will have served 20 terms in Congress by the time of his retirement. As prior chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, he was instrumental in the drafting of ObamaCare in 2009.

I won't go quite that far in wishing pigman a weenie roast with him being the fuel, but I do hope that somehow, some way, Obamacare comes up to bite him and his staffers squarely in the ass.

Maybe some kind of preexisting condition -- like being a shitstick, for example.

He does suffer from terminal fugly. I think that's an incurable disease all by itself.

I appreciate the desire to be gracious and magnanimous, and let him fade quietly into - long overdue - obscurity. I really do.

Perhaps it's just my hot Scots blood getting the better of me, but after this man has spent 40 years hamstringing my country - along with his party cohorts and the Vichy Republican collaborators - and setting the people of this country at each other's throats, poised to kick off a second civil war as it were, I have a more difficult time being forgiving.  Probably a weakness on my part, but there it is.

I think it has less with being gracious and magnanimous and more with not wanting to communicate any kind of wish for physical, violent harm to a sitting Congressman.

You know - the NSA an' all...  :tinfoil:   :II:

Once that mother ****er hits the streets, though, it's open season -- so to speak -- on his ass.   :-)

I'm kind of wishy-washy on term limits.  If we are going to term-limit anything, it should be committee chairmanships.  That is part of the reason these clowns of both parties stick around so long, just so they can get the plum committee oversight jobs.  That needs to be fixed, IMHO.

I just hoped he'd die in a fire.  I didn't say a word about who would - if anybody - would be the one with the matches.

I'm sure Hillary thought the same thing when Obama came out of nowhere to take her presidency.

...And those wounds remain unhealed.

 :-)

It's a somewhat different case than a state or district election though, the national election comes down to coalition and yes, even popular vote, dynamics, while at the state or district level the party has much more of an alignment of interests and players.  I expect Waxie will have a lot of say in who gets his seat, I have no idea if she is on his list or not...they can use her to beat that 'War on women' drum, but whether that matters a great deal in his district or not, I don't know.

I thought she'd testified that she'd cornered the market on fish tacos some time ago?

Just the very large fish tacos...not the mini tacos.
