Oh my. New rule, directly from my man Skins.
It's in the supersecret forum, so no link.
We no longer have any rules regarding fundraising.
You (and any other DUers) are free to fundraise without explicit admin approval.
Members are advised to use their own judgment in deciding whether to support any fundraising efforts posted here.

Whoa. My fellow alum didn't think this all the way through; he just thought things to a desired conclusion, and then quit thinking.
I'm not talking about hundreds of primitives suddenly traffic-jamming General Discussion with begs for alms; I'm talking about something else.

This should result in some interesting threads coming from the island in the future.

It suddenly occurred to me I might've been coming across as coy, teasing, when I didn't mean to.
Blame a searing neckache.
Anyway.
As we all know, Skins's island is infested with moles. Skins is no longer going to vett fund-raising appeals. Any primitive, bona fide or faux, will be able to post a fund-raising appeal.
What if, for example, a mole were to post an appeal on behalf of the now-unemployed brain-damaged primitive?
-
Too funny,Skins is letting them silence each other via the alert system and now stepping aside to let them fleece each other.
Do you see the pattern here DUmbasses...he is pocketing the money and laughing at you demented fools.
-
Well, now it's occurred to me that I screwed up walrus-face.
Some bona fide primitive posts a fund-raising appeal for the brain-damaged primitive, and because I opened my big mouth and because so many primitives lurk here, the primitives'll think their fellow primitive's franksolich's mole, and choose to not donate for the hard-pressed DainBramaged.
<<<should've kept mouth shut.

I haven't seen any indications that the Skin Flint is skimming from the beggar DUmmies, yet. But if too many post about their Pee Pal accounts bulging with purloined dollars, that may change.
As far as the catfights and slap fests emanating from the alert system, it has given the manhaters club something else to do besides complain about the gungeoneers.
-
.....to let them fleece each other.
Can you imagine, now that Skins's isn't going to vett appeals, how many moles will be making up hard-luck stories and posting them, garnering beer and cigarette money from the gullible primitives?
-
With the internet being the biggest megaphone ever build, once word gets out (and it eventually will) then all sorts of hard luck cases will be showing up wanting money.
We'll see how long this lasts.
.

As soon as that happens, and more of the DUmmie hard luck stories go un-Paypalled, the DUmmie masses will rise up and squeal like little piggies to Skins to make 'em stop.

I can't do it myself--the sheer logistics involving using any mole of mine are daunting (because I don't log onto Skins's island from this, my computer here at home; I have to go somewhere else and to a different computer)--but if anybody ever (at any time, not necessarily right now) wants to blow a mole posting a fund-raising appeal, I'll be ecstatically happy to make up a hard-luck story for that member to post over there.
<<<confident can write a whale of a hard-luck story.

Only a comment, Carl, no slam on your post. Actually, you are correct. Skinner will act magnanimously up and until the dollars are noticeable flowing past the windows of the High Command Bunker on the island and into the grubby paws of his steaming masses.
The purge of the money hungry infidels at the DUmp will be glorious thing to watch. I'm all atwitter with anticipation.

It is hard to see how this place still exists after all the scams and purges and 'goodbye cruel worlds.' It is certainly down from its heyday.
What Skins really needs is a Republican President.

I agree. Since the Dems have most of the power in Washington, it is hard for the DUmmies to coalesce around any one idea of what to do or who to criticize (this latest Christie kerfuffle not withstanding). They need a strong Reagan Republican as the POTUS so everyone can agree to hate one particular thing.

Wonder who that really was BTW.

The primitives won't ignore even blatantly fraudulent pleas, though; they're their own worst enemy.
The sad thing is, such gullibility isn't limited exclusively to the primitives.
I dunno for sure, but you're probably one of the fortunate few who missed out on poor stupid Beth's stupid scam nine years ago--count yourself blessed if you did miss out, as it was a mess--but anyway, those of us who originally formed Scamdy, in the beginning, were propelled by nothing but the most pure and noble of motives; to protect the primitives from being scammed, from being ripped off.
That noblesse oblige, that sense of responsibility to those less fortunate than us, lasted only five minutes into the Scamdal, but it was there at the beginning, and it was the original motive.
It probably had some effect on some primitives not opening their pocketbooks, but unfortunately it had a certain unanticipated consequence too.
Not much money was really raised to help sfexpat2000 with her divorce-and-moving expenses, but of what was raised, the majority of it was from.....sob-sisters on this side of the aisle, who thought we were "picking on a poor sick dying man."
There's unfortunately pigeons on this side too.
I frankly suggest no one donate to any internet appeal for cash; if one's feeling magnanimous, best to donate to people and causes in real life.

Yeah, I saw Ski$$er's thread and this DUmmy doesn't want any help from any "teabagger", remember? LC2020 is just going back to the well before it is dry.

Well, okay.
I predict, with reasonable confidence, that before spring has sprung, someone's mole is going to launch a really good, a really great, fund-raiser on Skins's island.
I have no idea who the mole would be, and the mole might not even be based here on conservativecave; I only know it's going to happen.
I wish I could be involved, but as old-timers here know, January-February of every year are busy times in real life for me, and my posting and commenting plunges.
However.
However.
However.
If someone's mole, whoever it is, wishes some assistance on writing a hard-luck tale, a real sobber, a good tear-jerker, the services of franksolich as usual are available. It's for the good of humanity after all.
I'm sure I could write something that would move even my fellow alum Skins to increased secretions from the lachrymal glands, causing him to part with a few Alexander Hamiltons, and possibly even the notorious skinflints the chronically-helpless primitive "Paper Roses" and the primitive with a sensitive bottom "Curmudgeoness"--usually getting anything from such primitives is harder than prying open a clam with a wet paper-towel.
However, I really doubt I'm good enough at it to motivate all the primitives to chip in; I doubt for example the most piteous pleas would open the pocketbooks of the CalPig primitive, Skippy, or the big guy in Bellevue, who actually believe they're helping by saying a few nice meaningless words.

Heartless rich bitch.
Well now, I've suddenly had sort of an awakening about our guest here.
When she wrote about her nephew--Gawd, I got one of them too--smoking dope, she at the same time outlined her housing situation, and it was a shock to me.
I'd always imagined our guest as a bigwig in local university circles, being a fund-raiser and all that. I'd assumed she's one of these overpaid governmental employees, much like Skippy is, living high on the hog on the oppressed taxpayers. I dunno how much, but I'd vaguely guessed, per year, $200,000 upward.
So I'd figured some sort of ivy-covered Tudor mansion in an affluent area of Minneapolis-St. Paul, with ample grounds and a separate carriage house, much like what other university administrators seem to have.
Another one of them Elizabeth Warrens.
But apparently I'd figured wrongly. She apparently lives in a big old house that's apparently subdivided into apartments for various family members (i.e., a one-family house, but separated into independent units). I suppose that's okay, and I suppose the accommodations are good, but it indicates a lesser income-level than I'd speculated.
Our guest is definitely no rich bitch kpete or the Bostonian Drunkard or Atman or the CalPig primitive; in fact, she may not even be as affluent as Skippy or the sparkling old dude or Anne, that wretched miserable old she-devil the dysmenopausal school teacher from Kansas. She isn't anybody who could afford a membership in the country club up there.
So I suppose even if she wanted to help destitute primitives, she really doesn't have the means to.
And so I'm now withholding judgement; she may have a good and giving heart, but alas she probably doesn't have a fat pocketbook.
-
Just pretend they are really late term abortions.
Or retroactive ones.
Or they could be thought of as abortion prevention measures.
-
...but alas she probably doesn't have a fat pocketbook.
That's what comes of wasting all your time preaching about your pet rock social activist causes on the internet instead of doing anything productive.
-
Well now, I've suddenly had sort of an awakening about our guest here.
And so I'm now withholding judgement; she may have a good and giving heart, but alas she probably doesn't have a fat pocketbook.
Well, she has no marketable skill.
She wasted years of education on degrees in South American feminism or some such nonsense.
And somewhere along the line she developed a burning hatred for men.
Altogether, not a formula for prosperity.
A middle-aged, physically unattractive woman, with a useless education, no man to provide for her, and no likelihood of ever attracting one, is unlikely to be living very high on the hog unless there's an inheritance involved.
She's just another DUmp loser.
-
Well, originally I'd thought she'd be a good catch for a fortune-hunting "metrosexual" man--if he could overlook those, uh, things hovering above her midriff as if a canopy or marquee, and her politics--given how well-paid desk-sitting (as compared with non-desk-sitting) governmental employees are.
But despite her job title, her housing situation betrays a socio-economic status closer to franksolich than to Skippy.
-

Government employee living high off the hog? You follow too many right-wing news sources. Firstly, university doesn't qualify as a govt. entity, and it didn't close when the state shut down over budget issues. It gets only 17% of its funding from the state. More comes from grants than state resources. Secondly, few university or govt employees make $200k a year. I see salaries when I work on budgets, and the highest I've seen is about $140k for a full Professor. I'm sure faculty in Econ and Business make more, but not in liberal arts. The basketball coach is the highest paid employee at the university with a $2.5 million salary, three times that of the university president. Coaches are almost always the highest paid personnel at universities. Look at the public records for the staff and faculty at your own state universities and see what they make. Just get over the RW propaganda about govt employees because most of it is BS.
-
Yeah, such bullshit. My immigrant neighbor that works for the IRS made $150K a year pre-0. The 0 thought she didn't make enough and doubled her salary. She flies to DC every Sunday night and flies back home every Thursday night. Too much trouble for her husband to shuttle her back and forth from the airport; thus she rents a car every weekend. Not sure if she or we pay for the car, but she's doing very well as a DC worker. So well that her 54 year old husband does not have to work leaving him time to walk around the neighborhood touting "a little socialism never hurt anybody."
-

Well, no matter how much, or how little, governmental employees--the desk-sitting ones, not the non-desk-sitting ones--are paid, it's obviously too much if they're better off than those in private employment who pay the taxes to pay the salaries of bureaucrats.
A very long time ago, governmental employees were poorly-paid and poorly-benefited, but they enjoyed greater job security than those in private employment.
That's changed however the past several decades; they still enjoy greater job security, and have since become better paid and better benefited than those in the private sector.
Government "service" is no longer a sacrifice; in fact, it's rather lucrative.
I think it should be a law that no governmental employee should be better off than the "average" employee in private service who after all's footing the bill.
-

I think it should be a law that no governmental employee should be better off than the "average" employee in private service who after all's footing the bill.
Because during a time of state deficits and cuts in state budgets, legislators naturally decided to give public employees massive pay raises. ::)
I will again reiterate the point that I am not a government employee. The University is not a government entity, and my salary doesn't even come out of the budget. Not a penny of state resources goes to pay me. Mine is a revenue generating position. More importantly, however, rather than believing what you hear on your fave entertainment shows that pose as news, look into the matter yourself. As a state taxpayer in Nebraska, you have access to information on the salaries of public employees. My suspicion is that a few are grossly overpaid, most make a middling income, and some are paid crap wages.
Before you get yourselves too exercised with what I'm doing with my time, I took a vacation day today, as I took a personal day on Tuesday for reasons that don't concern anyone here.
-
WTH is a "crap wage" ? It certainly isn't minimum wage, because libs are all telling us that minimum wage isn't a "living wage". Therefore without the least amount of logical deduction the least paid government worker cannot possibly be making a "crap wage".
Do libs ever think through their pronouncements before excreting them ?
-
Now wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
I'm intimately acquainted with the pay scales for state employees in Nebraska; I used to be one myself.
And you're right, it's all public information.
Secretaries, receptionists, and file clerks working for the state of Nebraska are paid circa $500-1000 a month more than secretaries, receptionists, and file clerks working for private companies (such as for insurance companies and banks specifically).
Not only that, but those working for the state of Nebraska have fringe benefits that are out of this world.
Years and years and years ago, I was an accountant for the Department of Health; one of those desk-sitting haemorrhoid-encouraging positions with little or no responsibilities other than watching money flow in and out.
One of my older brothers was a high school science teacher elsewhere in Nebraska, with more education than I had.
I, a single person, no dependents, made $400 a month more than he, a married man with three children, did. I was in Fat City; I dunno how he managed. He did, but it must've been hard.
(I quit the job after three and a half years because governmental employment is not good for the "handicapped;" reasons unrelated to pay and benefits).
When it comes to pay, benefits, and job security, desk-sitting governmental bureaucrats have nothing to complain about (after all, it's the firemen, the cops, the teachers, who are let go first, while the dead wood downtown keeps their jobs).
I don't think for example your pal Skippy has a damned thing to worry about, no matter how dreadful the fiscal crisis in California gets. He's dead wood in an office somewhere, and with connections. Every last cop, fireman, and teacher in California's going to be laid off long before his job is threatened.
As a university employee, you are in fact a governmental employee. A public university is an agency of government; it's not a privately-owned grocery store or funeral home that has to make a profit to survive (and to pay taxes; no profits, no taxes).
You may be in a position that is fee- or revenue-financed, but money within a governmental agency is fungible; if there's a shortfall somewhere, someone finds money somewhere else in the budget, and you get paid.
-
Frank, if I am a government employee, which government employs me? The state of Minnesota does not recognize me as a state employee. The federal government does not recognize me as a federal employee. There is a shifting reality of higher education. As legislatures increasing cut funding, universities find other means of financial support (typically tuition hikes), become less dependent on state funding and therefore less beholden to legislatures. The last figures I saw indicated the state of MN provided the university with 17% of its funding. (That may have gone up a bit under Governor Dayton and a now Democratically controlled legislature). If that number continues to diminish, there will be a point at which the land grant university is no longer a state university at all.

A simple question...what provides the resources to pay your salary?
