Found a sim-less lost phone...

A bit odd. Just found a sim-less BlackBerry Q10 on the floor in the lobby area of a the movie theatre I was just at (nice phone). The odd thing is that it seemed to be just placed there almost like it was there on purpose, not at an odd angle or anything, and it has no sim card in it. Now in order to remove the sim card you have to pop open the back of the phone and remove the battery but the cover and battery were all on/in fine. Almost like someone purposefully abandoned the phone.

A quick look through the contacts shows a huge number of contacts, all young people, looks like whoever owned the phone was in their late teens by the looks of their friends. I found an email address that I think is theirs. Just about to email the address to let them know about the found phone. Just in case I'm going to use a junk mail account and if they want the phone back I'd propose meeting at a Starbucks or something, not at my/their home. Anyone ever found a phone with no sim in it like this?

2. I wouldn't get caught with that phone.

Yep, I'm getting old and jaded - don't trust too many people.

I'd wipe my prints off of it, inside and out - drop it in a post office mailbox or leave it by a police station.

If it's harmless, the owner will probably get it back.

If not - no one will be coming to your door.

4. Would have turned it in at movie theatre office. Sure they have lost and found.

If it really was a misplaced, lost phone the owner will check back where they last had it. If not, it's the theatre's problem.

5. That was my first thought...

someone would probably ask at the theater first.

7. Take that phone, get a car, a bike, a cab, skates or a scooter.... or a helicopter...

and go back to the theater and go to the nice people there and say,

"Hey, someone left or lost this phone and I found it. Here."

There.

Then get a coffee or donut.

8. Like what others have previously advised, I'd say bring it back to the movie theater lost and found.

Let it be their problem. For your safety, of course.

9. Will return to theatre...

Update: will return to theatre as others have suggested. At first I didn't want to cause I like the idea of returning the item in person, being the hero etc Lol. But upon thinking it over and reading comments it's not worth it, better safe than sorry. Thanks.

<<<has found four lost telephones in lifetime, that I recall (maybe it was one or two more, I dunno).

<<<tossed them into the nearest trash receptacle.

<<<suggests others not lose cellular telephones around franksolich.

Just as I hit "post" for this thread, the chronically-helpless primitive lit this campfire:

I'm not fond of cell phones. In fact, I dislike then with a fury.

My wonderful kids both have cell phones and so do most of the people I know. That's OK, but it is frustrating as heck when I try to call for a quick chat and always get voice mail. I long for the old days when someone I called answered or the phone just rang and finally I hung up. Even a busy signal would be a relief.

I'm getting crotchety in my old age but I can't get used to this cell phone world. Need a quick answer? Forget it. Leave a message and I'll call you back.

Phooey!

Leave it to the DUmmies to make a spy movie out of some kid losing their phone.

Some people have more than one phone and they shuttle one sim card between them.

You can do one of a few things: ignore it, turn it in, keep it, or toss it.

Anyway, where did Amber get cash for a movie?

1. I understand totally

it really gets under my skin when I have friends "VISIT" and they are texting on their phones even while were watching a movie and what's worse is they were texting each other while in my living room I mean for crying out loud people if you go to visit someone get off the damn phone and spend some time with another human being. What an idea right.

One of the nice things about cell phones is the ability to screen calls and check voice mails to see if they are important.  Paper Roses kids must not like her very much to screen her calls.

Assuming the phone belonged to a woman, that was the closest the LocoNuts primitive has ever gotten to having a woman's phone number.

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

Agonizing over what to do with that cell phone is going to cost LocoNuts at least a couple days of uncontrollable sobbing.

Maybe he should call his old buds back at the college dorm for advice.

I bet he'll buy a ticket so he can return it to the lobby where he found it.

I bet the added stress of having to buy a ticket to return it to the lobby where he found it incapacitates him for 2 weeks and requires intense therapy sessions with the new "head doc", plus copious amounts of medications.

He wants a 'reward' of equal or greater value.

That's an $800 phone...more than those DUmmies collect in SSD in every month.  :rotf:

That is why he kept the phone. He was trying to contact the contacts.  :-)
