At what point am I allowed to say healthcare.gov is a freaking nightmare

Yeah, there have been lots of "hits" but that is because millions of us are beating our heads against the wall trying to even get logged into the system. How many people are actually getting far enough to do anything useful? Not very many.

I've tried to log on at least 50 times this week, at all hours of the day and night. Even at 2AM, the system says there are too many people on. After 24 hours of trying I finally got an account created. But I cannot log into it. It won't say why. I did all the measures suggested in "having trouble logging on". I tried to call the help number that was listed. I couldn't get through on that line for 2 days. Finally I did get through, but they don't offer any assistance whatsoever in logging on. They say chat support is available, but you can never get through to an agent that way.

I tried both the "forgot my password" and "forgot my username" links on the off chance that somehow something had gotten garbled. The "forgot my password" did send an email for password recovery. Obviously nobody ever even tested that function because the email wasn't even properly formatted for a link back. But I extracted the link and tried to go directly to the site. That link didn't work at all -- giving me an obscure error message. The "Forgot my userid" link said it sent an email, but it never did.

So I figured maybe I was just unlucky with that account. I created another account using a different email address on a completely different email system. Again, it took about 10 hours to finally get that created because the system was down most of that time. And I got exactly the same results. So I cannot log into the site to see the available plans.

OK, I called the help line again. At 1AM yesterday, I finally got somebody. He couldn't help me with my account, but he offered to enter the information online and read the screen back to me. He acted as if this is what he does all day long. What a painful process. I had to re-dictate every item about 4 times until he typed it in correctly -- didn't even know how to spell "Indiana." I was on the phone 40-50 minutes before I got the most basic information. He was able to tell me that Bronze policies for one person with no subsidies would range from $541-641 and gold would range from $846-956 -- that's more than I pay now. But I need a policy for two, and I might qualify for subsidy. I need to play with the numbers a little to see that, and I wasn't willing to stay on the phone another 2 hours with this guy. He never got to the point of looking at specific policies, and I wasn't going to have him read me the details over the phone. He had no ability to send any information to me via fax, PDF, or any other means.

What kind of nonsense is this? I am a supporter. What do you think those who are NOT supporters are thinking about this damned mess of a system?

So please tell me when it is permissible for a person to speak the truth about this screwed-up system? Am I expected to remain a blind cheerleader for another week? Another month? Indefinitely?

This system is so bad that it may accomplish what the Republicans and Faux "news" haven't been able to accomplish in three years.

And if you can possibly broaden your perspective to think of a single mother with two kids and a job trying to stay awake at 2 AM to try to get through the system, perhaps you can understand why many are worried and upset. It's one thing if we just couldn't finalize until December - but we can't even get info about plans and pricing.

I expect this weekend will be a madhouse as all the working people try again.

Small business people have been waiting for this to see their options, and I suspect many of them are just grimly sitting on the website all day, trying to get through.

frustrating. You will get there if you remain persistent, frustrated, but persistent. I raised a kid on my own at the same time sandwiched with terminally ill parent and fighting pugs and trying to maintain full-time employment. No one said it was easy.

14. I had a similar experience in the begining.

They should restrict the people that can log on by last name by day: A-C on day one and so on. [    :thatsright:  --SGT SB]

I did find that the call time dropped from 45 minutes to nothing (but once I got the operator they couldn't use their system much either).

That tells me that they could ramp up the call center volume but that the internet traffic is exponentially greater.

When you do get on line you will be asked if you want to check to see if you qualify for a subsidy, be sure to click that button.

It says you might be required to input a lot of data, but I didn't input any and my subsidy came up in a second.

I was stunned.

I certainly understand your frustration.

I have a history of cancer. He put me on his policy so I'd have continuous coverage after I was kicked off of breast/cervical cancer Medicaid.
My husband's employer based coverage has a $5,500 deductible and $10,000 annual max. We can't afford that on Walmart wages. I haven't seen my oncologist for follow-up monitoring for over a year. The only way I can get a policy I can afford to use is with subsidies. If I'm no longer eligible to be insured by my husband's employer because of his part-time status, I'll become eligible for subsidies. Unless Walmart comes up with much better policies this year, this is probably what my husband will do. But he still wanted time to compare before making a final decision.

Dropped by Medicaid.
Insurance premiums skyrocket.
Have to cut worker productivity to get on the government dole.

It's everything we said it would be.

30. I can't log on either.

I keep getting a message that says my id and password are incorrect. Until I read your post, I thought maybe the system somehow screwed up my account and I needed to create another one. If creating another account didn't work for you, it probably won't work for me either. I don't mind waiting my turn for the log in screen to appear. It's getting the error message after waiting all that time that upsets me. At least when waiting in a long line at a store, one eventually gets to the register. Four days later and the healthcare.gov website is still worse than Black Friday!

Pelosi was correct in her assessment some time back: the bill must pass to see what's in it.

A week!  They've had several years to plan for staff, offices, and training to start the thing.

These DUmmies will go to their graves clutching their deductible statements and copay bills exclaiming "It's a good thing!"

It seems her husband is a whole lot smarter than MrsKirkley is (Which isn't saying all that much, given that she's on DU), since the insurance he has now already sounds better than the Obamacare Bronze Plan, and if he works for a large employer (I don't take the 'Wal-Mart wages' reference literally) the premiums are likely much lower with the employer plan to boot.

I vote for RIGHT NOW.  We should screen-cap all their misery to guard against the inevitable day Skinner flushes all ACA posts down the rabbit hole.  Actually, the better question might be, "When do we STOP saying "Told you so!"?

I have no idea how this will play out, but I have renewed hope, now that the reality of this debacle is slapping them right across their faces, that this will be the undoing of this Administration.  This will turn out to be such a cluster-**** of a burden on every single person who has an inkling to vote that the next election SURELY can't go to the 'rats.  How Obama's legacy will play out is another matter entirely.  I suspect he will be remembered as having launched a disaster, but with the "best of intentions".

I have no idea what to do or what is going on.

I am older then my Hubby, I waited a couple of years after hitting retirement age to file for full SS#
I used my 401K to pay off the house and both autos, credit cards, and we lived on his wages.

Mother kept bugging me to file for SS# and finally after a couple years did so.   I have  no need for Medicare or what ever, I am on Hubby's insurance--Cigna at his work. Now when he retires or is fired or laid off, now what.

He pays about $80.00 a week for our health insurance and includes our life insurance, dentil and eye care, I thought this was high until I saw what we would pay under Obama Care.

I threw a fit when the copay went from $20.00 to $40.00, but this new copay is out of my range and most peoples range to pay.

What the heck is going on, this Obama Care will turn us into a 3'rd world nation, back to hunting out the old Lady's that live in the woods that sell portents to cure everything.

Can I ask a question?

Someone brought this up on the radio and I thought it was a good point, if people with pre-existing conditions can get coverage whenever they need it without being penalized for getting it afterwards instead of before they needed it, then why would anyone want to carry insurance? it's cheaper to just pay the fine yearly, pocket what you would pay monthly then signup for coverage only when you need it.

That might work for a young person with a small income, but I think the real fine is $95 or 1% of income, which ever is more. But it's supposed to go up.  By the time Obama leaves office, the fines are going to be a whole lot higher than 1%.

From everything I've read, the penalties tend to stay in the $100s of dollars while the premiums are regularly in the $1000s.  Even at $50,000 income, when subsidies aren't available anymore, unless the penalties skyrocket quickly, it's going to be cheaper to pay the penalty for some time.  Long enough to kill this mess?  Hopefully.

Or take the fine and pay the house payment? Or pay both but have no food on the table, utilities not paid and shut off, winter is coming and no money to buy propane? Car insurance doesnt get paid nor house insurance. Oh and how about when she cannot pay the property taxes, they take the house anyway?? You call this program HELPFUL for "THE PEOPLE"??? WTF?? I thought Obamacare was supposed to be FREE! I discovered that it will cost me MORE money than my current plan for LESS coverage! I'm disabled and my current plan costs $398 a month. It pays 100% after I pay $1500 a year out of pocket. Obamacare will cost me $759 and I STIIL have to pay 80% of all charges....and I have a lot of cherges. This is a complete SCAM!

Quote
So, curiosity got the better of me. I wanted to see what O'care would cost compared to what I have now. NO COMPARISON! I was looking for a plan comparable to what I have (apples to apples) and you can't get it. The lowest out of pocket yearly deductible with BCBS (what I have now) is 4K per individual per year/8K per family. The premium is a little more than 3 times what I pay now with higher co-pays and less Doctor choices. Um, no! I hate that there are 30M uninsured people out there. I'm sure that's a horrible position to be in if you have no health issues. At the same time, I think it's horrible that working people are being laid off, having their hours cut, or losing the insurance they've had forever. This is a HUGE re-distribution of working middle class American's income, not to mention insurance. At what point do the hard working middle class(NOT saying others don't work hard) say enough? If I had to pay 3X for less coverage than what I've got, the house payment would be out the window, my family would live less that week to week, forget ever saving for retirement, and I wouldn't be able to pay for the college expenses for my daughters'. What would I tell them? "I'm sorry, we can't pay for you to go to college because we are paying $1903 a month for our healthcare so that others can be covered." And don't even get me started on not qualifying for any subsidies. The government could have fixed the "uninsured" issue without totally screwing those that had insurance by expanding Medicaid, a tax, SOMETHING! The fallout, unfortunately, will be MUCH worse than 30M uninsured. I'll end with this.....the American people have no problem paying a tad more so that Senior Citizens or the TRULY disabled have good coverage. What most have an issue with is having to fund those that fall into those 2 categories while their kids are having to do without what our income could provide for. It's ALL about personal responsibility UNLESS personal responsibility isn't the issue!

I am so disappointed. These prices are outrageous and there are huge deductibles. No one can afford this!

So I just received my 2014 coverage and costs from by health care provider. They informed me that they have transitioned my current coverage that I have had for the past 4 years to a comparable ACA certified coverage plan. My MONTHLY premium went up by $200.00 and my coverage out of pockets costs increased by 30%. So answer me this, how is this a "Affordable Health Care Act"? I can now no longer afford my health insurance premium for my family and do not qualify for assistance based on the guidelines. I compared my new rate to the ones on the Marketplace and they are the same or higher, so that is not an option either. I feel like my government has again lied and cheated me into a corner - now what?

We've been saying this all along.  It's simply mathematically impossible.  There's only so much in the checkbook.  All that stuff people are saying up there, I pointed out to my idiot congresscreep.  No answer.

It's very easy for them to live off $174,500, with their healthcare pretty much free.  And, they get insider-trading enhanced investments.

We all bought houses and undertook mortgages, car payments, and 401K contributions with the assumption that the family budget would remain stable.  An extra $10K+ simply doesn't materialize.

I think massive civil disobedience is the only recourse.  Has one policy been sold and paid for yet?  How about those obama cheerleaders in the facebook comments?  Did they pony up their $$$ yet?

WTF?? I thought Obamacare was supposed to be FREE!

From what I understand, this is very, very prevalent amongst the LIV/NIV 20-something metrosexual goofballs.

:ownit:
...because, I know you voted for that (D)oucherocket.  Enjoy your pain.

We had white privilege so, it doesn't count.....   :whatever:

It will take more than that to dislodge the damn democrats from the government hog trough.

You know, not one damn person considered for a moment in this age of insurance being an entitlement rather then what it is: a benefit provided by employers, that wages have not kept pace because included in those 'wages' was the BENEFIT of insurance ie at somepoint many employers in lieu of a certain amount of wages provided certain benefits instead. So now dummies, you get to pay for what was once a benefit with those after benefit wages since not one person got a wage increase to account for this benefit that is no longer being provided.

In the meantime the 'poor' end up better off for nothing and the middle class do worse then the mooching class while still have to log in their 40 hours or more a week. Nice!

this is much the same objection I have with artificially raising the minimum wage; what is the point of someone right out of college at an entry level position taking that position when they can work student loan free for the same flipping burgers? Wages will not go up as a percentage for everyone else so raising the minimum wage essentially lowers everyone else's wages by default or least the spending power and value of the dollars they make unless the person now making 15 bucks an hour was to get the same 90% increase fast food works(for example) wanted.

Wait until the LIV/NIVs try to use their insurance and have to wait weeks to see a GP and months to see a specialist.

in all my years of working and running companies I have never seen an organization become more efficient by adding an extra layer of management. Particularly if that extra layer is unionized and can't lose their jobs for lack of output or incompetence. I've also never seen the price of a product go down when a 3% tax is added to the raw materials.

I'm not so sure. In addition to huge premium increases, these plans have enormous deductibles and co-pays.

They seem more like catastrophic coverage. If DUmmies have to pay thousands out of pocket before the policy pays a dime, they're not going to flock into doctors' offices any more than they do now.

Healthcare is shitty in socialist countries like Canada, Cuba, and Britain because everything is "free" all the time.
