63. I'm certain that Queen Elizabeth II despises George W. Bush.
I'm absolutely certain of it. She has lived her life with discipline, focused on what she perceives as her duty. We may or may not agree that it's an important role, but it's the role she inherited and by all accounts she's lived up to it in every possible way.
George W. Bush? The opposite in every way. No discipline, no sense of duty, nothing but pure greed.

48. No, it's not Katrina all over again, as much as many would like to paint it that way.
If anybody has links that show massive ****-ups by FEMA during this flooding, then let's see them. I live in SW Wisconsin and FEMA did a good job with the flooding 10 months ago and according to our Governor Doyle, a Democrat, they are doing a good job now too. I know this doesn't fit the cookie-cutter portrayal that we have of all things Republican, but I am guessing that a good many FEMA people are not necessarily Republicans.
As far as Bush goes, if I was in flooded areas I would not want him or any of his close cronies anywhere near me. Actions speak louder than words anyway.
Whoops....you strayed off the topic. :-)
Nobody wants to talk to you now. :rotf:

Iowa a DROWNING FOR FOUR DAYS, and bush is having TEA with the QUEEN!
And its corrolary: "Remember the LAST TIME he was AWOL like that? And who he was enjoying birthday cake with?"
(Cue photo of bush with john mcsame)
Kanye West said, back then, that "george bush doesn't care about black people." Well, he evidently doesn't give much of a crap for white people, either.
BTW - the real reason bush is having tea with the Queen is because he knows he soon won't be able to travel in style like this anymore - on the taxpayers' tab. So he's getting all his final globetrotting fun in during the warm months when it's most comfortable to go traveling.
****ER.
I seriously believe that. Let's cram in another one-o-them freebie foreign getaways while we still can, 'eh, condi - er, I mean, laura?

69. You'd think King George would interrupt his partying with the queen
for a brief photo op in the flood zone so he'll have something to display at his Little Golden Book library. He is, after all, currently in the process of crafting his "legacy."
So by your own admission you would be having a kitten over the "photo op".

I agree. Bush can't order ****ing troops into Iowa, that would be against the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. The only military-like entity that's exempt is the USCG...and they're there. As for Iowa, they have their own Air National Guard and Army National Guard. A fellow Admin at USMILNET, Dragon Soldier, is a retiree from the IAARNG, and he's helping out.
DUmmies are ****ing morons and anyone that thinks the President should just roll in with guns ablazing and take over doesn't know shit about the US Constitution.

The President only has so much that he can do during things like this. The Governor is the one in charge and I believe I've read that FEMA is there helping.

I think they have to be requested by the Governor, Mia. All states have their own state-level EMA as well.

Edited to add:
You're right, that's how it goes. Disaster hits, governor asks president to declare it a "national disaster," federal help comes. :)

I dunno, it's pretty straight forward steps with a basic Constitutional understanding. The president can't just jump into state matters. The flooding in Iowa is a state matter. It appears that the governor is handling things well enough.
When Katrina was headed that way, they could have asked for federal help before it made landfall. That would have made a big difference (I think) in how things ended up playing out. Lesson 1 - When big ass hurricane is headed towards your state and especially a major city that's below sea level, ask for federal help ASAP.

Most people with any intelligence and sense of self-reliance did GTFO of Dodge. The only ones that really stayed, were the ones that consistently relied on the government.
After Betsy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Betsy), you'd think the local officials would at least have the ****ing sense God gave a goose.

When Rita was headed towards my family they were out of town ASAP. Like my grandfather says "I have hurricane insurance, there's no need to stay."

From what I've read, the situation in Iowa is the anti-Katrina: Citizens are actually behaving responsibly and intelligently and working together. There's no widespread looting. They're helping each other. They're not shooting at FEMA workers, requiring them to have armed escorts. State and local authorities are actually functioning. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you're not sitting around on your ass waiting for George Bush to hand you a glass of water.
-
Gee the head of Homeland Security has been here for a frackin week and Fema for far longer. You tards over in the Dump that don't live here in the great state of Iowa have not one damn clue whats going on here. This shit has been going on since May and now your concerned? You people really need to go play an extreme version of hide and go **** yourselves. Tom Harkin, a Democrat has done not one damn thing to help us out and its his part of the state thats underwater . He didn't do jack for us back in 93 either . Your party is manned by fools and freaks.

The situation on the ground is of no interest or relevance to the primitives nor is/was Katrina.
It is the hope for political benefit that is the first and only thing on their minds.
They are the lowest form of human life that exists because they all had the privilege of growing up in a civilized, learned country yet they choose ignorance and subjugation in spite of it

Are you in Iowa Airwolf? Anywhere near Cedar Falls? How bad is it? I have talked to one person on the net who says we (the general public) don't really know how bad it is up there. Is she right?

Our esteemed colleague Airwolf is off line, and I'll take the liberty of answering for him.
If I'm inconsiderate, then Airwolf can jump all over and lambaste me, talking for him.
Airwolf lives in extreme western Iowa, nowhere near Cedar Falls.
Airwolf lives in a part of Iowa recently heavily battered with tornadoes and somesuch; near to where those four Boy Scouts were killed.
But as for floods around him, I don't know.

Dragon Soldier (http://usmilnet.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=35) lives there. He's was on last night but said he'd be AWOL for a bit because of it. I think he's in the affected area.
He's also a member here: Dragon Soldier (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php?action=profile;u=291)

I hope all of our Iowa area members are okay. CC is thinking about you and we will do whatever we can to help.
As for Bush, he's meeting with the Queen? I didn't know that. The news reports say he's in London. He's meeting with PM Brown. This is the "farewell tour" for the Bush Admin and he's never been hosted by the new PM. DUmmies are really f*cking stupid. Diplomacy must go on. Meetings must be held. Schedules honored. There isn't a damned thing Bush can do about Iowa. And what he can do, can be done from overseas. They have cell phones and internet. I've even heard a rumor that he has his own plane with a command center.

I live near Omaha, just shy of 35 miles south of it. Here we do have some flooding to the south in Hamburg Iowa. The I-29 Interstate south of Hamburg is closed to the Missouri border. Franks been right and thanks for filling in on what I didn't mention already. Cedar Rapids is over on the Eastern side and they evaced 24,000 people from the flooded areas and the area is just now going down. Most of the state is already decleared a disater area. Out of 99 counties, over 80 are affected. The forcast for this week look good with only one day forcasted to have rain after today. We had a storm blow through here this morning but only minor wind damage occured and some rain to go with it.
FEMA and all of the state resources including the Iowa National Guard were already working on the tornado stricken area of Parkersburg when the flooding started in the Cedar Rapids area. Unlike the Dems in The Katrina fiasco Gov. Chet Culver was on it from the start. He and the Head of Homeland Security went to the boy Scout camp the next day after it happened. I wondered myself why Chertoff was here untill the next news broadcast said President bush was in Europe meeting with Heads of State. It would have taken at least 2 days for him to get here when having a cabinate member get here in hours was the best thing to do. The stupidity of the DUmp knows no bounds. If anyone of them had been in charge we would gave bodies all over the place and rampany looting just like in N.O.
-
Airwolf, I'd doubt that you'd have the rampant looting of NO because the people of Iowa are good people who aren't blaming the government for their every problem, nor relying on the government for their every need. They're helping each other.

Glad you're ok buddy.
As for the DUmmies....they don't understand the concept of letting the best person qualified handle the situation.
It's like in the military...you let the person at the lowest level handle it...because the higher up it goes to get handled...the more red tape and headaches are involved.
-
Last year, when it was our turn to flood, our area received significant Federal help, despite our Dim governor's stupid comments...but the long-haul of sheltering, cleaning, and rebuilding was done by local residents and incoming Christian work groups.

He did go to Illinois to see the flooding there on Saturday

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama D-Ill., fills sandbags with volunteers at a sandbag station in Quincy, Ill., Saturday, June 14, 2008. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)

In Quincy, Obama helped volunteers fill sandbags that are being trucked to reinforce levees on both sides of the Mississippi River, less than a mile away. Authorities expected the river at Quincy to reach a near-record level of 32 feet by Wednesday. Severe flooding already has hit Cedar Rapids, Iowa, northwest of Quincy.
"Since I've been involved in public office we've not seen this kind of devastation," Obama said as he used a shovel to fill bags being held by local resident Dylan Muldoon, 10. He vowed to push the federal and state governments to provide needed aid to the stricken areas.

President Clinton came to Des Moines during the floods of '93, and it was a giant photo-op. Nothing he did personally helped the people, the people took pretty good care of themselves without a ton of government help.
-

We don't go for that kind of crap here. We help our friends and neighbors no matter who they are.Well ok, Unless they are the scum of the earth we might not do much but we as a state are busy helping our fellow Iowans get back on their feet and help them fill sandbags and watch over thier homes and businesses.
They said on KFAB 1110 am in Omaha that the water in Iowa City has damaged 16 buildings at ISU. The water in Cedar Rapids is going down and that south of here in Hamburg, Iowa, the flood warnings are still in effect.
