Six women picked as jurors in George Zimmerman trial

DEVELOPING -- Six women were chosen Thursday to decide the fate of George Zimmerman, the Florida neighborhood watch captain accused of murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
The six jurors were seated after a nearly two-week long jury selection process, in which potential jurors were grilled about their prior knowledge of the case and their personal beliefs on guns, law enforcement and media coverage of the fatal shooting.
The court also chose four alternates.
The six final jurors are all women – five are white and one is Hispanic.
The racial and ethnic makeup of potential jurors is relevant, prosecutors say. They have have argued that Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer for his gated community in Sanford, Fla., profiled Trayvon Martin when he followed the black teen last year as Martin was walking back from a convenience store to the house of his father's fiancee.

You mean Zimmerman finally got a break in this kangaroo trial? I thought the fix was already in.
At least one if not more will be a leftist plant who lied throughout the jury selection.
I'm sure there are. But I don't see him getting charged with second degree murder either.
At least one if not more will be a leftist plant who lied throughout the jury selection.
I wonder if they picked all women because they think that showing Trayvon's baby pic will melt hearts?
I think it's bull that there are no men on the jury. That just doesn't seem fair either way for Trayvon/Zimmerman.
Am I missing something? I thought a jury was 12 people, not six.
They have the same opportunity to dismiss jurors; his lawyer must have tested jury response which found favor with women
I think if he is convicted, he may have grounds for appeal on the "jury of his peers" thing. Or not since his side approved

Zimmerman was asked by the judge if he found the jury acceptable, and acquiesced -he doesn't have a case for that but his lawyers will watch for any jury misconductIs here a JD ?

I expect an acquittal or a hung jury - no matter, there's a danger of Zim being tried again on federal charges and Orlando will burn in the meantime.
Junior detective in the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew club -Yes, I have a decoder ring
Holy crap! I read the books (Hardy Boys) when I was in elementary school, but that was a long long time ago. Was that from the TV show?Hmm, joke. I have no clue if they had decoder rings. I'm more interested in decoding this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20456782)
I'm predicting jury issues and likely a substitution. As for a hung jury, I think he may be found guilty -I just have a feeling about the politics
I do think the only way is to find him innocent.,.....too many unknowns....Man there will be riots. Destroying their own stufffs :thatsright:
I notice the media is now using a younger photo of widdle Twayvon now. :whatever:

My question is will the riots be just in Florida or throughout the country?
And would they even be a trial if his name was Jorge Martinez?
Legendary legal eagle Alan Dershowitz says he was stunned that George Zimmerman's defense lawyer told a "knock-knock joke" during his opening statement to the jury in the Trayvon Martin case.
The Harvard law professor, who was unavailable for comment early Tuesday, told “The Steve Malzberg Show†on Newsmax TV that he found the incident to be inappropriate for a murder trial.
"This is a murder case,†Dershowitz said. “The victim's family is sitting in the courtroom with tears in their eyes and he's telling a knock-knock joke? I just don’t get it.â€
A teenage friend of Trayvon Martin was forced to admit today in the George Zimmerman murder trial that she did not write a letter that was sent to Martin's mother describing what she allegedly heard on a phone call with Martin moments before he was shot.
In a painfully embarrassing moment, Rachel Jeantel was asked to read the letter out loud in court.
"Are you able to read that at all?" defense attorney Don West asked.

Sad she cannot read what she wrote. Public school is a joke. I wonder what impact it will have.
Well, it pretty well proves that she didn't write whatshethe prosecutor claims she wrote, and therefore tosses her veracity right out the window.
The article I read mentioned that she had a friend write the letter for her so that it would be neat (or legible...I can't remember the exact term used). Sounds like a CYA to me.
Her friend wrote the letter for her, writing what she said. She said she could not read the letter because she could not read cursive.
My God this girl is obnoxious. Every time she lies she starts bouncing in her seat.
Terminally dumb and obnoxious.Who did she vote for president ?

What White People Don't Understand About Rachel Jeantel
Posted June 26, 2013 by Rachel Samara for Global Grind Staff
A predominantly white jury is not going to like Rachel Jeantel. Let's just be real here.
The 19-year-old Miami native is an easy target for obvious, yet shallow reasons. But let's not forget why she's actually on the stand in George Zimmerman's second degree murder trial. Rachel was the last person to speak to a living, breathing Trayvon Martin. The guilt, shame and sorrow she must feel is something most of us will never be able to comprehend. You could hear it in her voice, see it in her jittery body language. She is feeling the wrath of this highly publicized case.
Rachel was thrown head first into this murder story, unwillingly. And although she had repeatedly said she did not want to be a witness, did not even want to believe she was the last person Trayvon spoke to, Rachel took the stand for all the right reasons. She was asked to by the family of her deceased friend and feeling part of the burden for his death, she wanted to help.
Rachel was raw, emotional, aggressive and hostile, and she was unapologetically herself.
And if the 5 white jurors (excluding the 1 Latina) are like most white people I know, they are unfortunately not going to like Rachel. They won't understand her, especially not her defensive nature, and this will unfortunately work against her. Even though it shouldn't.
I can imagine George Zimmerman's defense is just hoping some of those 5 white jurors have some prejudices (as most people do), or hell, are even racist, because if they are, their tactic to make Rachel out to be less intelligent, rather than less credible than she actually is, might actually work.
Less intelligent and more confused.
Poor Rachel Samara writes about blacks the majority of the time. She's pissed because everyone thinks the "witness" is stupid.
From a black lib's point of view….. (http://globalgrind.com/news/what-white-people-dont-understand-about-rachel-jeantel-trayvon-martin-blog#ixzz2XceEBuTa)
Gee, maybe if she WASN'T a stuttering drunk moron, she wouldn't be treated like one.
BTW--how'd that Twitter-scrubbing go? What? People still saw that? Damn, so much for her credibility.
In the inner cities, the schools are filled with kids just like her.
Yet they will graduate -like she will next year
Don't hold your breath. Inner city HS graduation rates are hovering around the 35-40 percent range. In some HS's, they're lower than that.
The standards will be lowered to whatever it takes.
As a witness in the George Zimmerman murder trial testified this morning via Skype, pranksters watching the case bombarded the man’s account with calls, forcing the judge to interrupt the man’s testimony.
As seen in the above video, Scott Pleasants, a criminal justice professor at Seminole State College, was testifying about Zimmerman taking a criminal investigation course in mid-2011 when the Skype meltdown occurred.
Pleasants, who was in Colorado, was about two minutes into his testimony when a steady barrage of incoming call boxes began popping up on the Skype screen. Each call was accompanied by a loud “pinging†sound. It appears that Pleasants's username was visible on the screen, prompting the troll patrol to muster.
Wonder how many of those were DU members? And will any of them confess to it?
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith and other city officials are worried that the outcome of the George Zimmerman trial could spark “violence†and have crafted a “secret law enforcement†plan to deal with potential social disorder.
A CNN report shows Sanford police going door to door in an attempt to calm residents about possible unrest in response to the Zimmerman verdict.
“Our worst fear is that we will have people from outside of the community coming in and stirring up….violence in the community,†Smith told CNN’s David Mattingly.

CNN BROADCASTS ZIMMERMAN SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
by BEN SHAPIRO 1 Jul 2013
On Monday, CNN showed George Zimmerman’s Social Security number and other personal information live over the air, including address, date of birth, and phone number.
Officer Doris Singleton was testifying when the prosecutors showed a narrative report including Zimmerman’s information.
That immediately launched a round of tweets by Zimmerman haters celebrating knowledge of that information.
This is hardly the first time Zimmerman’s personal information has been distributed by those who oppose him. During the initial coverage of the Zimmerman trial, Spike Lee retweeted the home address of what he thought was Zimmerman’s home address. It turned out to be the wrong address. Roseanne Barr then tweeted Zimmerman’s parents’ home address. “If Zimmerman isn't arrested I'll rt his address again. maybe go 2 his house myself,†Barr tweeted.
This isn't the first element of media bias in the Zimmerman case, either. The Associated Press originally reported that Zimmerman was white. That falsehood was repeated for days by the media, heightening the racial aspect of the case.
The media also broadcast photographs of Zimmerman from a 2005 arrest rather than current photos, and conversely broadcast photographs of Martin as a pre-teen, not the 17-year-old he was at the time of the killing (the media's photographic choices actually impacted witness testimony during the trial).
The race baiting race card playing racists are rarely if ever held to account.
Jurors hear from investigators, experts in Zimmerman case
by Rachel Delinski, Herald Editor

Things were heated in the courtroom Tuesday as prosecutors in the George Zimmerman case continued to call witnesses to the stand including investigators, experts and Zimmerman's best friend.
A major focus this week seems to be Zimmerman's injuries, how they could have been obtained and the severity of them.
Zimmerman has maintained that he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 24, 2012 after Martin attacked him and beat his head repeatedly into a concrete sidewalk.
Prosecutors questioned Sanford Police Officer Chris Serino, who served as the lead investigator on the case, about Zimmerman's injuries and whether or not he perceived them as being "life-threatening."
Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda asked Serino, "Did you feel as if he exaggerated the matter in which he was hit?"
Serino said, "Yessir."
However, Serino did not see Zimmerman until after midnight the evening of the incident - once Zimmerman had been treated by rescue units and allowed to clean-up.
Assisting Investigator Doris Singleton, who was the first to interview Zimmerman following the shooting at The Retreat at Twin Lakes, testified Monday that Zimmerman had never complained of pain and declined medical attention.
She mentioned, however, that his head was "actively bleeding" and he had dried blood under his nose when she first came in contact with him.
{snip}
However, while being interviewed by Defense Attorney Mark O'Mara, the possibilities were opened up. O'Mara suggested that each small cut on Zimmerman's face, nose and head could be from a separate swat, blow or slam from Martin.
"Anything is possible," said Rao.
O'Mara also seemed to damage the credibility of Rao as a witness when it was learned that Rao was recommended to appointment to her position by State Attorney Angela Corey - the special prosecutor who was appointed by Governor Rick Scott in March 2012 to take over the case.
Prosecutors in the George Zimmerman murder case this morning called to the witness stand Trayvon Martin’s mother to testify that her son can be heard screaming for help in the background of a 911 call placed moments before the unarmed teenager was shot to death.
Sybrina Fulton, 47, told jurors that she "instantly" recognized her late son’s voice on a February 26, 2012 call placed by a woman who reported that a fight was underway in her Sanford, Florida gated community.
Asked by a prosecutor to identify who was yelling for help, Fulton answered “Trayvon Benjamin Martin.†When she was earlier asked to identify her two children, Fulton named her late son, adding “he’s in heaven.â€
Hmm... (http://news.yahoo.com/lawyers-george-zimmerman-ask-florida-judge-acquittal-193317560.html)
SANFORD, Florida (Reuters) - Lawyers for George Zimmerman asked a judge on Friday to consider acquitting the former neighborhood watch volunteer of second-degree murder charges in the killing of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, arguing the state failed to meet its burden of proof.
The motion came as prosecutors prepared to rest their case in Seminole County court after nine days of witness testimony aimed at undermining Zimmerman's claim that he shot and killed Martin in self-defense.
Mark O'Mara, Zimmerman's lead lawyer, said there was "a very well-founded reasonable hypothesis of innocence" and that Zimmerman should be cleared of the charges.
Prosecutorial and Judicial misconduct IMHO.
The fact that at least one meeting was held in the mayoral office smacks of political interferenceWhat about the star witness being subjected to giving a statement in front of the decedent's Mom ?
What about the star witness being subjected to giving a statement in front of the decedent's Mom ??
?I'm not sure if I am interpreting your reply correctly, but in my opinion it was misconduct on the part of the prosecution to allow it.

I drew a legal conclusion on "Good Morning America" Saturday that would have surprised the Dan Abrams who covered the George Zimmerman case leading up to, and shortly after, his arrest.
Now that the prosecution's case against Zimmerman is in, as a legal matter, I just don't see how a jury convicts him of second degree murder or even manslaughter in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
So what happened? How can an armed man who shot and killed an unarmed teen after being told by the police that he didn't need to keep following him, likely be found not guilty of those crimes?
I certainly sympathize with the anger and frustration of the Martin family and doubt that a jury will accept the entirety of George Zimmerman's account as credible. But based on the legal standard and evidence presented by prosecutors it is difficult to see how jurors find proof beyond a reasonable doubt that it wasn't self defense.
Unbelievable. If they were smart they would be consulting with Mike Nifong right now.
Umm...what?

Switching charges at the end of a trail, with no discovery opportunity to the defense has to be outright prosecutorial misconduct.
It should be a mistrial.
Assuming, of course, the jurors aren't smart enough to see all of the Prosecutorial and Judicial malpractice on display in this case, and simply aquit the innocent man.
I do not see any guarantee that Zimmerman could be acquitted despite an almost all White jury pool. It is all women and they can swayed easily by emotions.
As I indicated in a thread elsewhere: they're Broward County voters. IIRC this was the heart of "hanging chad" country in 2000. Stranger things have occurred.

Doesn't have to be unanimous. Just has to be one holdout, and he'll walk.
If there's a mistrial or hung jury, doesn't the state have the option of retrying him? If he's acquitted, that's different.
I was better at this stuff when LA Law was still on the air.
If there is a mistrial, hung jury, or technicality, they can have the option of retrying him.
It looks like the judge rejected that travesty and it's back to the original charges, so at least there's a little common sense left.

Hey now. :therock:I know, right ? I needed a chivalry heat source to come along and take the spotlight off.

I'm willing to bet that is what the jury convicts him with.

Weren't there two others fired over this trial?
I wonder if the DOJ will go after the jurors too, if they let Zimmerman off.
I think the local police chief got fired. Not sure about anyone else. Just ran across that link on Drudge this morning.
Sounds to me like if Zimmerman is convicted he has several ready made appeals. If convicted I expect the judge to pronounce sentence immediately.

SANFORD, Fla. -- The white-haired old man waded into the crowd that was shouting “Justice for Trayvon!†in the shade of the courthouse here Saturday, smiling as he murmured, “George Zimmerman is an innocent man.â€
Terrie Ann Campbell, 38, who works for the school district in Orlando, looked on from a lawn chair on the courthouse lawn where she had propped up her “Justice 4 Trayvon†sign in the damp grass on what had already become a hot and humid day.
About 50 people gathered in the morning to protest as jurors deliberated the fate of Zimmerman, 29, a neighborhood watch volunteer who identifies himself as Latino and who is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Feb. 26, 2012, fatal shooting of black teenager Trayvon Martin.
The detective that conducted the original investigation (name escapes me) & turned wouldn't charge Zimmerman was demoted to patrolman.
Edit: Also, the Chief Prosecuter was given the choice of quitting or demote to office boy and none of the lawyers from his office were used on this case.
I can see the six women deliberation.

When women rule, men drool.
How's them apples ?
I'm afraid that women get a bad rap.
Remember the beheading of the Soldier in England?
It was a woman who confronted the perp, another woman went to the aid of the soldier and it was a woman cop that shot the perp.
Well, you know how it is, men aren't allowed to be men any more so somebody has to step up and the only ones left are women.
