My SO has no Idea!

I have B.A. in Communications from MSSU. But I lost my copies of my transcripts due to the tornado and my flash drive with the electric copy getting stolen at a shelter. I have become delinquent in the payments of the loans due to no job since May 22, 2011. To get the transcripts I have to contact a clearinghouse and set up a payment plan. According to them I must get a paycheck so they can use the numbers on it to start to take payments off of it or my bank account number ( I don't have a bank account).
My SO keeps showing me jobs in my field and is yelling at me to apply. "Stop wasting your education" he says. Those jobs want copies of my transcripts. I can't give them what I no longer have. It like he is putting salt in a very open wound. He won't listen or understand. For now all I can do is pray for one of the fast food or clerk jobs to call. I am hurting so bad and he just won't stop and see what is going on.
So many are in a very similar boat right now in this country. It is a catch 22 for so many, need proof of education to get the job they are trained for, but can't get it due to not working and going delinquent. Thus, can not get the paperwork to change things.
And I am sure they to get to hear it from loved ones. But it still makes you feel alone in this world.

I can't believe this DUmmy is having such a hard time during this massive recovery. Unemployment is at record lows, gas prices are high which shows how great the economy is, so I aint buying she can't get a job.

2. Been there done that....
I had to work as a cashier for a year to get my payments up to date so I could go to school and finish my degree. Since graduating whatever I have that is kicking my butt went into overdrive and now I have hypertension, probably diabetes (I just had labs done a couple days ago) my joints started hurting like a bleep. I wish that was all, but anyway long story short I can't work right now and my payments are going to go delinquent again and I won't be able to go back to school in the fall to start finishing a four year. Unless I claim hardship due to illness to put off having to pay for now. Which I will probably do, but it seems kind of a big risk for me to go back to school anyway, knowing how big a risk it is due to my health issues.
OMG hypertension and diabetes, yeah there is no way this primitive can work. :whatever:
I've been working with hypertension for years, have achy joints, and am close to being a diabetic. My DR is such a hardass that he won't recommend disability and has this crazy idea that if I take meds I can still work. :-)
I also enjoy the tale of woe of having to work as a cashier for a full year, what you don't get full retirement after a full year on the job? Come work with me for a day DUmmy you would run screaming by 9am. :rotf:

This is the primitive who left Joplin, Missouri, after that tornado a couple of years ago, saying she was going to hike from there to Seattle, Washington. She got as far as Springfield, Missouri, and then quit; I dunno why.

I have never been asked by a potential employer for transcripts. Only graduate schools. Don't let that hold you back.

And even if one did, you would be working in the job and tell them you'll get the transcripts as soon as the governing body sends them to you. Use the paycheck to pay for it and get yourself re-established.
Or, you could try my method and completely ignore your college education and do something productive with your life instead, like giving gifts to children... you don't need a degree to do that!

I had to nadin "MSSU;" the primitives are so provincial, thinking everybody knows everything in their own little part of the world. It's Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.

Same here Freep except I don't have bad joints, I got bad feet. My doc would laugh at me if I told him I wanted to get on disability.

Not absolutely positive, but I believe one of the consequences of being declared delinquent on a Federally-backed student loan is that they freeze your access to transcripts.

That makes sense. I also forgot the DUmmy factor. Reasonable people, if they can't pay their student loans, notify the holder and get a forebearance because it would be for legitimate reasons. Not just stop paying.

Doesn't surprise me DAT. It makes sense. Another unintended consequence of the liberal wet dream. Banks cannot force a university/college/whatever to do anything but the federal government can. Wait until the fed government starts taking the dummies tax refunds to repay student loans. That there is gonna be real hilarious. :cheersmate: :cheersmate:

I call BS. I've gotten transcripts multiple times since I left college, and I still have student loan debt. As long as you don't owe money to THE SCHOOL, they'll send your official transcripts for a nominal fee of around $20

I've been asked--ONCE. I didn't have them with me. All I did was sign a release, much like one signs an SF-180 to release military records (which I, unlike John Kerry, have done.)

1st of all this doesn't bode well for the relationship, you're starting off on the wrong foot by lying, and liars always get caught, 2nd of all you're not applying for jobs in your chosen field not because of your transcripts being lost, but because you're delinquent on on your student loans, and you know if you get a job in your chosen field that your pay will be subject to garnishment and your bosses will see they have a not so reliable employee.

LFR, it is you that doesn't have any idea. I've had surgeries due to injuries on both ankles and my right knee. On the days my joints don't hurt, my broken bones do, when they don't, the scars I've collected hurt. All that, and I endured a layoff. I was unhappy with it, but you know what it isn't that you get knocked down, it's that you get back up. I started a business with everyone telling me it was a bad idea, but just starting I'm already covering three-quarters of my pay from before. Don't tell me what you can't do.
Laying down and whining about why you can't do something is easy.

That's very true, and terrifying, IMO. I believe I would run screaming into the night rather than take government "help."
I know a fellow around here, who's mildly retarded, yet somewhat independent. He's about 70. He's been barely scraping by all his life with a little disability money. He recently won $10K in the lottery. State came sniffing around, determined that made him "rich," and now he's in a heap of financial trouble. Which he is not really able to understand.
