North Korea says it will launch nuclear attack on America

NORTH Korea led by tyrant Kim Jong-un has sensationally vowed to launch a NUCLEAR attack on the USA.
The provocative statement comes weeks after the country conducted underground nuclear tests which caused a massive earthquake.
America’s west coast cities on Los Angeles and San Francisco are feared to be in Kim’s sights.
A foreign ministry spokesman said: "Since the United States is about to ignite a nuclear war, we will be exercising our right to pre-emptive nuclear attack against the headquarters of the aggressor in order to protect our supreme interest."
However experts doubt the country's ability to produce a warhead capable of being fitted to a long-range missile.
The announcement comes on the day North Korea launched a chilling new propaganda film via its official Youtube channel.

Someone may get the idea it might be in their interests to hit the East Coast and blame it on the NK.
Been done before in History, when one up and coming Country wants to start a war, they find two antagonist countries and hit one of them with the idea their biggest enemy did it, sit back and watch the two enemy's fight it out, then come in to gather the pickings left over.
Seems China and Russia are getting fed up with NK. This leaves only the Middle East to sit and watch as America solves their problem by wiping out NK for all of them.

BSS--LA is 50 or so miles away from Oxnard as the crow flies. It'd take one HELL of a party favor to have a nuke dropped on LA to do any significant damage in Hueneme.

Sure. We can nuke them. Pyongyang is about 85 miles from the DMZ. One air burst wipes it out. A few military sites may need attention too. A single Ohio class submarine could hit them with hundreds of nukes, each precision targeted. Just make sure that all the warheads are air bursts so there is no fallout.

No way in hell will Barry and his Boyz authorize a nuclear strike against anybody -- even if we're attacked first. Michelle has more balls than Barry does.

Assuming they could get about 10 more years worth of work done on their missile, which is at this point just designed to go as far as they can stretch it instead of actually carrying a useful payload, and they could also make an actual warhead weapon as opposed to something they construct more or less at the place they're going to use it, which would probably take them a few years and several more tests by itself, aside from the launch vehicle issue.
That said...Li'l Kim may or may not be as nuts as the rest of his family. Who knows what the little shit is likely to try.

DAT, all they have to do is to get a working warhead on top of a missile. No re-entry vehicle needed, because if the burst is, say, 100 or so miles into the atmosphere, the EMP generated will fry all of the electronics on the West Coast.

Honestly, not as bad as you might think. I'd be a lot more concerned about a Chernobyl-style breach/meltdown than a small nuke lit off. Most of your radionuclides are short half-life (couple days tops) and a few thousand Ci of longer lived stuff spread out over a wide area simply isn't going to appreciably affect your dose or future cancer rates. In fact, an air burst isn't going to give a long-lived fallout dosage much above background.

I remember hearing that they put a satellite in orbit but it was also reported that the satellite was spinning out of control...that doesn't bode well for an accurate re-entry vehicle. I suppose I could be whistling past the graveyard.
I do think that it is/was bad form to keep the South Korean capitol in Seoul, I would have moved it south a while ago but whatever.
As far as a ship borne nuke is concerned, they do have (I think) a blockade to contend with which may or may not find a hidden nuke.

North Korea has announced it is voiding non-aggression pacts with South Korea and severing its hotline with Seoul, hours after threatening the US with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

They have built a missile that will go 6500 miles carrying the equivalent of the Sputnik I which was approximately the size and weight of a softball with four car radio antennas screwed onto it, to prove they can shoot a missile into US territory - true. They have also built a nuclear weapon that is probably less mobile than Little Boy or Fat Man except with a good part of its control equipment externally mounted on test stands - true. There is a huge gulf between what they have, and being able to launch a functioning nuclear warhead 6500 miles.

We cannot expect these mad men to react as others do, we can think they will not do an act as that would be crazy to do so. Let alone with any accuracy to the point it will hit within 50 miles on a ground/air burst, or at a specific point 100-150 miles up on a EMP burst.
What we can do it a bit more advanced than what they can do. Yes, IF the Russians and Chinese wanted to play the EMP game, it would suck, but it wouldn't be some sort of complete shutdown on the Western Hemisphere type of scenario. But make no mistake, even they in many regards are several decades behind us, and the Norks are several decades behind that.

When a head of a country or even a family starves its citizens or a family its children for their own ego or live off their labors, this is madness.

Why not sanctions against their importing corn and rice, oil and gas ? Sanctions against textiles, leather or plastics ? Building materials as wood or concrete, their military will need replacement parts, tires, gears and all the metal parts needed to keep their tanks on the road.
To me these sanctions are hollow, it would bring the NK to their knees if the world leaders were serious and cut off the things the majority of the civilians need and want.
