Title: Post your sequester horror stories here.
Post by: Freeper on March 03, 2013, 03:11:51 PM
Looks like the Mayans were off by a couple of months, the world did not end on Dec 21, 2012, instead it ended on March 1st 2013. All in all I would say they were still pretty accurate since they made the predictions a long time ago and being off about 4 months is a rounding error.

Anyway since the world has now come to an end because of these super mega draconian budget cuts by the federal government I would like for all of us to post our horror stories here, assuming the internet doesn't come crashing down in the next few minutes.

Two things that I have noticed so far, 1: I noticed that the gas gauge in my truck is almost on E. It was at about half a tank a week ago so I'm guessing the sequester siphoned my gas. 2: I drove by Chik Fil-A today and they were closed. I also noticed every bank in town was closed so the sequester must have brought down the financial and the "chiken" market.

Oh wait I just made another horrifying discovery, I bought 2 big bags of Peanut M and Ms last Friday and today one is gone and the second one is about half gone. Damn this sequester!

We went shopping all around Nashville yesterday.  I started out with over half a tank of gas.  When I got home it was less than a quarter tank.  We are screwed.

I also noticed the post office wasn't open today or yesterday.  I am scared.

Holy crap I better check and see if the Post Office is closed here too.

This is worse than I thought, and to think I was one of those deniers.

My postman didn't show up today and when I went to the donut shop this morning they all had their centers cut out.  Now I'm afraid what I'll find when I go to the market.

I just left Walmart.  They had cheese with holes in it, calling it Swiss Cheese or something.  I am mortified.

Travel to a manufacturer for acceptance testing of a new measuring machine has been denied due to the restrictions on travel.  This was required by the contract awarded.

Aircraft to be inducted for march have been postponed till further notice

Anything that costs more then $100 requires Department Head approval, anything over 3,000 requires CO/XO approval.  I know that two jet engine test cells are down at this time due to having their parts denied for purchase.

End of the world as we know it.

Not even close to the end.

The CR is as close to the end for the Navy though.

The fact I can lose 20% of my salary this year is bad enough for me.   The effect of the furlough will cause my area alone approximately 95 million for the year.

I wish I could take all 22 days at once, I can find something to supplement me.   One day a week not really as easy.

Forgive my ignorance, but are you claiming that 22 days of furlough is 20% of your pay?

When I got laid off in 2009, I was making about $70K per year.  I found another job several months later making about $41K per year.  I found a way to survive.  I am confident that you will too.

I honestly am not understanding the furloughs.
The budget cuts are cuts in the rate of growth, not an actual cut in the budget.
I think that the furloughs are only being done to give the optics that this whole thing is super mega ginormous cuts.
It looks to me that civilian contractors and federal workers are being used in order for 0bama to be able to point at the repukes and say that they did this to you.

Yeah it is intimidation. Just like everything else from the past 4 years it is all nothing but a big lie.
The low information voters eat it up like it was welfare cheese then go to the ballot boxes every 2 years and beg for more.

I have a high school classmate that retired from the Navy and was always very conservative. He now works for the SBA and he loves all things Obama in an "in the closet" sort of way. He is a huge defender of our big government now and he thinks we need to cut military spending. I think I need to kick his ass.

Yes, the 22 days are 1day per week. That actually reduces my years salary by 20%.  I will survive, though it may become difficult.

We are pawns.

The DoD has been under a continuing resolution since jugears became Cinc.

I can only speak for the Navy,  we're billions under the requested amounts .  On March 1 we now have to cut billions more, and the damn CR expires march 27.

It will be another CR that kicks the can down the road once again. Then in 6 months or however long it is, we will rinse and repeat.

There probably will not be an actual budget until Barry is back in Hawaii on the golf course permanently.

So the country is going in the crapper but the Twinki Bakers union gets money from Obama ??????

Quote
The Bakers and Confectioners Union have applied to the government through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program and gotten many millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money to pay the union members to sit around on their backsides for up to two years and collect a check when it could have been avoided by working with the company.

The sequester "disappeared" a bunch of hospital employees.  We have been waiting an hour and a half for a blood test that usually takes 15 minutes!  The worst part is that the other employees don't seem to notice that anyone is missing.  I think they are pod people.

It's both.  Now that sequester is in effect, government is unable to keep global warming in check by selling carbon credits to those who need to pollute.

Rush was talking today about the Washington Post's lame attempt at a horror story.  A tiny Kansas airport has lost its two air traffic controllers.  Drilling down into the article, we learn that the airport has two flights a day, the controllers are never there anyway, and the pilots just manage their puddle-jumpers on their own.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International and O'Hare International in Chicago, are already experiencing delays in customs waiting lines as a result of automatic federal spending cuts, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Monday.

Ms Napolitano said today that major airports were seeing lines "150 to 200 per cent as long as we would normally expect" as result of the federal spending cuts that went into force on Friday.
"We're already seeing the effects at some of the ports of entry, the big airports, for example. Some of them had very long lines this weekend," she told a breakfast event organised by Politico.
When pressed for specifics she cited Chicago's O'Hare, Atlanta's Hartfield-Jackson and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), adding: "I don't mean to scare, I mean to inform."
However, when contacted by The Daily Telegraph, spokespeople for both O'Hare and LAX, as well as representatives from the travel industry, denied that airports had been hit by delays.
"We haven't had any slowdowns at all," said Marshall Lowe, a spokesman for LAX. Mr Lowe said that he had been on duty over the weekend and received no reports of unusual security delays.

Yes, the 22 days are 1day per week. That actually reduces my years salary by 20%.  I will survive, though it may become difficult.

My daughter is a DoD civilian...her mandatory "time off" starting in April is one unpaid day a week through September.  Not sure if she can use accumulated leave and/or sick days to reinstate them to paid time off though. :???:

If not, she may well end up back home with us for awhile, although at least she's not a dumbass kid who's gonna be staring at her Obumbles posters on the wall. :whatever:

Speaking of Ace Hardware, the sequester is responsible for those asswipes who climb all over you the instant you walk in the store, yet can't be found 5 minutes later after you're done browsing and you need to find a specific stainless steel threaded bolt.

I understand that the sequester was not the apocalypse that O promised it would be, and making fun of it highlights his obvious demagoguery. However, please keep in mind that some of us on this board ARE feeling the pain, from Army and Air Force training budgets getting slashed resulting in no Aircraft to jump out of, to Tuition Assistance being cut off COMPLETELY, to Crazy Horse getting furloughed (this is not meant to be all-inclusive, btw). Remember that the people who swore to uphold and defend the Constitution are being punished more than anyone else.

I think Barry actually believes his own lies. He's doing his very best to convince the media and the low information voter that the sequester was a Republican mandate, driven and hammered by an inflexible House headed up by people who, sob, want to destroy the sitting President of the United States.

So it goes beyond him wanting to destroy the military (though that very much would be a very nice side benefit).

It's kinda funny how we don't hear about the mandatory furloughs of the faceless, nameless bureaucrats within the EPA, HHS, FDA, IRS, ATFE, DOI, DOJ, HOR, FBI, and the rest of the alphabet soup. Damn the sequester!

A local talk show host compared the 40 billion (not the 80 that is claimed) that was/will be cut is like cutting a gallon of milk out of a family budget.  Also, during the month of February all while Barry is yapping on and on about it, the US government added 280 billion in debt, just in the month of Feb.

There are so many other programs that can be cut, in other threads I have listed tons of our pork spending.  And that is just a needle in a hay stack really.

Oh by the way Barry, I wonder how much that 20 vehicle caravan you took .5 miles to dinner the other night cost?

Screw you.

Civilian employees will lose one day a week pay until the end of the fiscal year. IE they will be off every Friday(for example) without pay until Sept 30th.

You can question the whys of what they are doing, but that is the reality to the average employee.

Like doc said both military and civilian alike lose tuition assistance which is helping a lot of us try to move ahead and advance our careers and better ourselves and our families.

Etc etc

I took you seriously, JTY, and all the others, too.  I guess I just didn't know what to say.  I feel utterly helpless in the face of being screwed by my government.  The only Reps I have are Dem.  They disregard me completely.

I feel the same way right now both as a conservative and an employer for that gov. I have no way to adjust to this either in my own personal situation(ie take another job over the weekend). I truly have been very emotional lately wondering what will happen to us if this continues as long as they say.  :(

I'm confused who wasn't taking you seriously?

it was poo pooed but that may have been another thread.

And if I'm emotional over this it's because it is effecting me on a level long before it will effect you all but mark my words this will impact everyone else eventually too as it continues. I want them to fight him, but if our side does not do it pointing out the whys of what he is doing, what is the point. He is taking revenge and I think it's why he is being such a stalwart on this. I guess I'm a little raw on this because at this point, I truly am scared of the future with this guy. I have never felt like I'm in the position of in my own country having to strategically plan an exit to another more freedom friendly state(territory) if the shart hit the fan. I always said that was dummie talk for not getting their way, but I'm truly at the point that this may be life or death eventually that kind of decision to go or not. I am really quite shaken over what I see potentially coming down the pike putting aside my own short term family concerns. I guess everyone in history has sat a little shell shocked when they realized they are a part of a dark time in history; that's where I'm at. I miss the 80's and Reagan :bawl:

I have the same question.

The only explanation I can think of is they are doing all this in order to make it hurt people. Or our information is wrong and theses are actual reductions.

Your info is right and wrong.

Again I can only speak for the Navy, unofficially of course, these are true cuts. We're in a CR from 2012 and sequester cuts across regardless.  In FY12 the Navy was budgeted for acquisition not training or maintenance.  So across the board  cuts.

More later.

Take heart....half the country didn't vote for Obama.  If he keeps his scorch and burn policies in effect, even some of his worshipers will get scared too and finally open their eyes.

I can't help but bring up Rand Paul's filibuster here.  One of our biggest problems is we don't have any real leadership right now and the media never says anything about conservative views outside of trying to make us look bad.  Rand wanted a question about Obama having the authority to use drones on American citizens answered.  He was ignored as a sitting Senator.  When Holder finally did answer Rand (after a threat to filibuster) Holder said he felt that Obama did have the authority.  Well, that's when Rand went to the floor of the Senate and started the filibuster.  If he had not done that, would the American people even know about the drone policy?   The media wouldn't have reported it, but they didn't have a choice after Rand made a spectacle of it.  Just like fast and furious and Benghazi gate.  How many Americans really know what happened there and how Holder and Obama have been hiding and blocking information from those in position to have oversight?

It's like we have no real leadership or a strong voice, a unified message or anyway for it to be heard and taken seriously.  But I'm hoping Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Rubio, Olmert and others follow their courage to speak up and to get out there and fight.  Graham and McCain be dammned.

You mentioned Reagan.  Read his 1975 C-Pac speech after the loss to Jimmy Carter.  It could have been written today.

The only people paying attention to Rand Paul is his dad, Dr. Nutz, and those who are truly interested in the medical anomaly of how a middle-aged man can actually hold his urine for almost 13 hours.

The low information voter still doesn't have a clue about the drone bullshit, and it is bullshit because for a smart guy, Holder doesn't know how to write a letter that makes it clear that ENEMY COMBATANTS are legal targets for the president no matter where they are -- in the country or outside the country.

Al Lawaki qualified as an enemy combatant due to his al Qaeda connection. Ergo, he needed to die.

Whether the sumbitch was in Yemen or in the suburbs of Buffalo shouldn't matter a whit.

Neither should his status as an American.

I like the way GWB put it -- "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

Short, simple, and to the point. Drones or no drones.

Earlier I was joking about the sequester and my dryer belt. Well guess what there is not a single place in this whole freaking town that sells dryer belts. You have to order the damn things either online or through the store.

So your okay with Obama using drones inside the U.S.?  Even knowing this Administration has enemy lists with mostly conservative groups including vets, preppers, anti-abortionists, anti-illegal immigration, pro-10th amendment supporters?

I hate to break it you, if Barry wants to shove a drone up someone's ass he will do it. He doesn't give a damn about what a piece of paper says.

I don't think he is crazy enough to do it, he will just send in a thug or 2 with a gun if he wants someone to become an unperson. I believe that Holder answered like he did on purpose in order to screw with the repukes.

I still think the whole thing was a setup. Holder answers like he did, Rand gets upset at the answer, then while Rand is doing a filibuster, 0bama is serving McCain and Graham a romantic dinner and when they get home they see what the crazy kids did while they were out on a date.

I'm telling you all they are going to use this in 2014 to convince the low information voters that the repukes are crazy and get them out to vote in the midterms.

Within the confines of the law, yep, I'm okay with it.

ANY administration has enemy lists. Barry is definitely not the first to have such a list and he won't be the last.

There's a place near me that sells hoses, belts and bearings.  They stock almost everything for  belts used residentially.
