In other news, Hunters gleefully take to decimating the Ptarmigan population, as the birds are disease free.

Rabbit propaganda: Bunnies are bad for you, but Ptarmigans are finger licking good!

Tularemia isn't new.  Here the general rule is to only shoot, handle and eat rabbits during months that have an "r" in them.  Has to do with tularemia and the incrased likelihood during warmer weather.  And don't eat any that have grubs.

It's obviously some sort of biological warfare brought on by ptarmigans.  Eeeeevil plot by them.

Nothing that 1 1/8 ounces of 7 1/2 ptarmigan shot won't cure. :fuelfire:

In the 50's, the older people called those "Wobbles" here.

"If you kill a rabbit with 'wobbles' in it, throw it down and leave it."....those were my instructions.

I remember a case of someone contracting it from a squirrel when I was a kid.  Figures, I suppose, since they're both members of the Rodentian Conspiracy.  Tularemia is one of those reasons why you want to be very careful cleaning game so as to not nick yourself, and also to be damned sure it's thoroughly cooked when you prepare it for the table.
