I don't trust any charities anymore.
Salvation Army is awash in fundies.
United Way says they "cleaned up their act" after the salary scandal. Yeah right.
I just a couple days ago saw an Anderson Cooper show, where he checked out several "charities" fro profit, including a "dog rescue" scam, and one group that delivered lots of coconut M & M's to disabled veterans.

One side of the DUmmies mouth screams that fundies need to give to the poor, the other side pisses and moans when they do and says the charity is full of fundies. :whatever:
Okay DUmmy let's pretend for a second that the fundies of the Salvation Army could come to your house and take money from you at gunpoint. Would you like that? Of course not, yet when your precious government does that to us all you cheer and demand more.

1. I'm always leary about them.
Too many are scams playing on your emotions.
Sounds like liberalism.

4. I'm with you on this. I do my charitable giving, sans tax breaks, in person one at a time.
When charities become an "industry", that simply means that people are more interested in making their living than in doing whatever the charity claims to want to do. Churches have been doing this for centuries and the model continues.
That happens in the government all the time. The people handing out the freebies are only interested in making a living for themselves and getting you to vote for them.

19. The portfolio I inherited is going to Doctors Without Borders
when I kick the bucket. So far, they have managed to avoid any major scandal but no charity is immune from CEOs who think the title is a license to steal.
I'm keeping an eye on them, though. The portfolio is a respectable chunk of change.
So you are going to be greedy and hang on to that money until you die. Maybe we should tax your wealth.

23. I even question the Red Cross now
After Sandy when they started saying dont send food, clothing, and blankets, send money, I started questioning their intent.
No wait a minute you goons blasted Romney for collecting those things, now you say the Red Cross should have.
I bet none of them idiots will make the connection that everything they complain about in charities also happens in the government, the difference is we can't opt out of donating to the government.

Oh yes, this bears repeating. They ridiculed Romney for doing collection efforts. Which way is it going to be, DUmmie?
There goes Warpy again, bragging on her inheritance. She's sooo rich!
After the election, a poster at another place said, "I'm not giving to charity anymore. They need something, go see Uncle Sugar." Some other poster replied "Sick!!!" It's not sick, it's self-preservation.

1960 or so when I was still in high school, I saw a cartoon in LIFE, LOOK or The Saturday Evening Post of the government welfare machine. It showed dollars being poured in at the top and only pennies coming out the bottom for the poor. Seems that most of a welfare dollar was eaten up by salaries, rent, etc....to the point that only 3 cent out of every dollar got to the poor.....made quite an impression on me.....talk about a charity scam, let the government run it.....sheeesh.

Liberalism is a scam.
-
I agree - many charities over here are left-wing lobby groups, and so I refuse to support them and only give to (Church-based) charities where I know money will go to fulfil its purpose.
-
I've gone out of my way to put something in an SA kettle.
Good bunch of people that honestly help others.

I'm teaching The Heiress that this is the right thing to do. Twice in one day, a couple of weeks ago. I told her, "People really need the help that they give."

Government Spends $60,000 per Family on Welfare
http://moonbattery.com/?p=20003
Due to Big Government’s inherent inefficiency, most of the money never gets to the intended beneficiaries.

Funny, the Salvation Army is the only charity I donate to that is primarily for the benefit of the poor. The SA gets about 90 cents of each dollar to the people. The red cross runs in the 40 cent or lower range. Of course if they say they are leftists results do not matter to the brain dead DUches.

My Marine Corps League detachment always manned the SA kettles at our mall at Christmas. Beside my church and
Wounded Warrior Project, the SA is the only charity I give.
.

Besides SA, I give to the disaster relief for the Southern Baptists, to local charities that run homeless shelters, to Compassion International and Operation Christmas Child. I always check on their rating first.
-
I dumped a bag of accumulated change on an SA kettle today. I usually throw my change on the dresser, almost never have change in my pockets. Took forever to get the kettle to swallow it all down the way they have the cross cut middle. I have no idea how much but it probably weighed at least five or six pounds.

I'm only giving to charities that benefit animals.
Most animals didn't vote for obumble.

At the very least, I have decided that I don't really give a flying flip when it comes to blue states.
-
They don't trust charities, but they're ready to turn their lives over to a bunch of corrupt, wasteful, faceless bureaucrats in Washington to be run as they see fit.
-
Its all just an excuse not to give.
Conservatives give to charities. Liberals bow their cash on drugs and Cheetos.
-
Speaking of charities, Lynn-ugly-as-sin plans to print out a lot of these:
and stuff them into kettles. I plan on stuffing more useful things into the red kettles this year, to counteract that bitch. It's going to be my main Christmas thing this year.

I think the Red Cross is ok, they are just really big and slow at times. They are still quicker then FEMA!
I give to some local groups, here in Nevada and other states.
On a national level I look for charities with low admin costs which are usually faith based.
I sent these two groups money for Sandy:
http://www.samaritanspurse.org/
http://www.umcor.org/
I also gave to the Red Cross.
DUmmies can't donate when they have both hands out looking for donations!
-
The worst are the police and fire charities that harrass you by telephone.
It's actually the police unions and the firemen's unions who contract with phone bank operations.
By contract, the unions get maybe, if they're lucky, five percent of the take.
The phone bank scamsters get at least ninety-five percent.
The actual policemen and firemen get zero.

You know after 911 and all the millions and millions of money raised for the family's of the survivors, with the family's, the fire fighters, the police responders the count was about 10,000- 15,000 that needed help.
So $200,000,000 at a very low guess was raised, Each family should have received at least $1 million from the donations.
Scandal, we find the Red Cross had ear marked most of the money for other projects, totally unrelated to 911 the reason the money was raised for. We never got an accounting of how much of our money went to the victims family's, or how much went in trust for the first responders that developed lung disease in a few years from their work.
Just what are the salary's of the top Red Cross controllers getting per year, might be surprised to find how many get well over $300,000 a year-------Where does that money come from ? How many are there making over $200,000 a year -----20-50 ?
These salary's have to come from donations, so what do the the victims the money is donated to get, chump change.
I do not donate money to any Charity unless I know where my money is going, not in the back pocket of of a fund raiser. So I donate to the only Charity I have seen in action, The Shriner's Hospital for Cripple Children , Betash,[SP] Been 20 years since I saw my dads Hat, of Fez's or what ever the heck he wore with such pride.

That's good to know, GOBUCKS.
I'm more familiar with the volunteer fire brigades (I've never lived in a city), which solicit donations once per year. I support these.
What does anyone think of Americares?
-
We don't get solicitations from our firemen around here, except for the St. Judes fundraiser they do, with the boots out on the street corners. I put my money here for disaster relief.

Are you sure about that? I propose that most of his voters were. :-)

I have donated money and many hours to the Fisher House. They provide a home like setting for families of our wounded warriors to stay while their loved one gets their treatment. Kind of like the Ronald McDonald house for the military.

The company I work for had an aggressive fund raising campaign for the Red Cross and Sandy victims. The first week they raised 2M. By the end of the 3rd week, it was 4M. The majority of these donations were made five and ten dollars at a time....This was on top of all the truck load of supplies they sent and other emergency services my little company provided. Five truck loads of bottled water showed up within hours after the storm. I am sure DUmmies were the first in line for some of those services. Temporary pharmacies were even set up so people could continue getting medication as many drug stores were simply flooded and destroyed. They also set up medical clinics in trailers to treat the sick and the ill.
Vesta, I sure hope you never need the help of the Red Cross. I had a house fire once. They quickly helped me while I was waiting on the insurance adjuster.
DUmmies don't have time to donate, they are too busy standing in line waiting for donations.

Very true....they have been the topic of many investigative reporters for several years. Before everyone had debit cards, if you did agree to donate they were quick to send a "runner" to your house to pick up the check!
The police and fire groups agree to it as they do get money out of the deal with no effort....but it's such a scam.
