It really torqued me the wrong way! Usually they get at least 10 words out ... but no ... "Who is your insurance company?" ... like I had to pass a clearance test during the first 10 seconds of the conversation.

Yet if they had spent ten minutes asking you all the other important information then got to the part about your insurance only to find out they don't use that insurance you would howl about wasting ten minutes.

1. Its all about what anyone can get for themselves in the USA
Yeah they are greedy because they want to get paid for their services, so they can pay their bills and maybe make a couple of bucks to live on themselves, but you aren't greedy for wanting them to see you for free. :whatever:

2. Yep, run away Capitalism, almost everyone's a huckster. n/t
Tell you what DUmmy go to medical school, open up a practice then see people for free. Then you can bitch about how greedy the other doctors are.

3. It does seem impersonal, but there's a reason for it...
Your insurance company might not approve of them (for whatever reason), so by getting that info 1st, they won't waste your time with asking you questions. Believe me, if they asked you the normal barrage of questions and then found out that your insurance company doesn't approve of them, they've wasted your time.

Well?
It's not fair they won't give me free stuff. :mental:

9. That is really what irks me about today's world, there is no time to be civil, just time for
curt questions and impersonal attitudes ... and it grows and grows.
And in the US it all evolves around $$$$$. To me, it's a disgusting and tiresome way to have a society, and at least to me it's going to just get worse and worse.
Another example, we used to have a small, but very progressive and advanced ISP here, now, they've been bought out by a large company. Now, it's like talking to a brick wall when you contact them for service, questions, etc. And the latest is forcing on-line billing and payment onto subscribers.
A new talk-radio station started here on FM. I flipped it on this morning for a bit, I thought it might be interesting. I listed to it for about 10 minutes, all they did was trash Obama and anything to do with the administration. It was pure garbage. Just lies and garbage. And later I learned it was a Fox AM station now broadcasting on FM too.
I think I'll just go back to bed and screw it all.
Like liberalism doesn't evolve around money, the difference is liberals don't want to do anything to get your money, businesses including those evil doctors provide something in exchange for money.
The DUmmies all want living wages if they bother to work, yet they expect everyone else to give them rock bottom prices or everything they feel entitled to for free. They never can figure out that everything costs money and that it is them not the rich who are not paying their fair share.
Bunch of hypocrites.

As opposed to say, France, where everyday each citizen gets out of bed wondering out loud how they can improve life for others.

They probably wanted to make sure the DUmmie wasn't on Medicaid because it's another doctor that isn't taking new Medicaid patients.
-
Wait until you get what you wish for DUmbass...the first question asked will be "How old are you?"
to see if you fall within the treatment perimeters.

That's because more and more Doctors are dropping insurance companies, increasingly we have Doctors dropping Cigna, Aetna and Oxford unless the company provides out of network benefits, and they need to let Patients know this right away as opposed to going through the motions then saying ooooops, we don't take your insurance anymore.

That's when I say "Aetna and Medicare". Then they say, "Can we send a car for you?" (<< not long for this world I suspect)

Better be careful they might rip out your tonsils and cut off a foot so the doctor can vacation in Hawaii this year.
Or they may give you a breathalyzer if you are breathing hard.
Luckily DR 0bama can step in and give you a pain pill instead of a pacemaker. Good times are in store for us no doubt!

When you have a free market you have a potentially inexhaustable revenue source. Consumers will pay as much as they are willing and if they are willing to pay more than the current supply system can accommodate then more suppliers will enter the market place.
Now we have ObamaCoup.
If you think it is impersonal now wait until it's no longer an issue of gaining market share but decreasing number of providers scrambling for a finite amounts of federal funding from a government that overtaxes a shrinking economy while devaluing the currency at every turn.
DUmbass, you're seeing just the beginning.

What did the DUmmy want, thirty minutes of phone sex from the receptionist before they got down to business?

alright DUmmy, lets assume for 2 seconds that you are ambitious enough to have your own business and a potential customer inquires about doing a transaction with you for your goods or services. Would you want to make sure the potential customer has the means to pay you for your product before investing your time and resources in the venture or would you blindly complete the transaction and then bitch and moan after the fact when you don't get paid for your efforts? Do you think a realtor will waste their time showing property to a lookie-loo who can not qualify for a mortgage?
Don't get all butt-hurt when a business is looking out for their financial well being. They aren't in it for charity and last time I checked, med school was north of 1/2 million $$ not to mention the years of hard work invested in it.

No way. Zero bongs. Obamacare is settled law, all healthcare services are completely free and your pony will be delivered tomorrow afternoon.

Bet they would have been even more upset if they had made an appointment and not found out until afterwards that their insurance wasn't accepted and they had a bill for a couple hundred dollars.

the first question I get when calling my Dr. for an appointment. "What's your birthdate?" Not what's your name -- just birthdate. I answer in my most freezing tone of voice, "I have a NAME and I would appreciate that you use it." I know I'm an old lady, but really, this lack of civility is beyond the bounds.
HeiressofBickworth can give herself a highfalutin name but she is just another lumpenprole and neither her demands to be recognized as somebody nor her most freezing tone intimidate anyone.

That's so they can find you in their computer system. Then they will know your name and find out if the secretary of HHS has declined your insurance company for not being in compliance with their new 10,000 pages of regulations.

You may have answered your own question.

Correct. Amazing how even my current doctor wouldn't take me now as a new patient with my current insurance.
Then again I should consider myself lucky, considering I'll be lucky to have health insurance as a company-provided benefit come 2014. I can thank Obamacare for that one too.
-
I guess seeing that the mutants at DU think healthcare is a right, there should be no reason for a provider to make sure they are paid for their service.
In the health care practice that I work in, it may not be the first question that we ask, but it is in the top 5. We try to be a profitable business, so that means someone is going to pay for the service that we provide. If your insurance does not, we will offer you a competitive cash price.

DUmmie calls doctor's office.....
Ring.....ring.......ring......."Hello and thank you for calling. This is the office of Dr. So-&-so. If you have a "Cadillac" plan of health insurance, press one. If you have a good health insurance plan, press 2. If you have Obamacare, press 3........you have pressed 3 for Obamacare. The following is a list of local funeral homes. At the mention of the funeral home that you would like to have handle your remains, press "pound" and your call will be automatically forwarded to the funeral home of your choice. Thank you for calling the office of Dr. So-&-so and wasting our time." ....click.

Not even a pain pill, JohnnyReb? Harsh.
I'm so sick of them thinking everything should be free. Grow up, DUmbasses. Free shit means slavery for someone else.
The Democrat party, the party of slavery.
As for that Bickworth bitch or whatever her name is, that birthdate business is a REGULATION, as is the photo ID requirement.

I was recently in the hospital for surgery (and fully recovered from the same thank you) and each time I was to be administered medication they checked my bracelet and had me repeat my name and birthdate. I would really rather they get things right than be vain about my age. Then too I am not a female and really am twenty nine plus. :rotf:
I am never surprised to be asked for my name and age. One of my recent providers used a billing service who wanted the same information (I wanted to know my outstanding balance). I just assume it is because you no longer are asked your social security number and they need a way to validate they have the right person.
DUmmies, as with most things, have no concept what insurance is. In reality it is collectivism in its purest form, pooling money against calculable risks. Insurance is not free money. It is not free care. It is not "extended warranty coverage". You want your annual physical covered by insurance? You pay a higher premium.

All insurance applications and policies should be required to post the gambling addiction hotline number. Insurance is gambling in its purest form.
The insurance company is betting you won't get sick - you're betting you do get sick. That's it.
I resent insurance companies being referred to as "your provider". They aren't providing anything. They just lost a bet.
-
FFS...........Everyday someone askes me "how much is xxxxxxxx" and my next question is, "who do you have for insurance." I have most of the co payments memorized and I like to spare the patient the sticker shock of the "cash price."

On top of the fact you need to verify who you are speaking with on the phone. Have DUmmies every hear of idenity theft? It happens in healthcare. I don't want to throw out any ideas on how this works, as I don't want to help the DUmmies get any ideas.
Even the most unusal names could have a person with the same exact name in the same town. Verfication of the DOB and address is for the patient's safety. Most people start rambling off their name and what they think the gov't owes them before you even get a chance to say Hello when taking their phone call.... :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
It helps keep people alive. Maybe we should stop asking? :lmao:

There is at least one person with my first and last name, and same birthdate who lives in my city. I found out when I went to a doctor's clinic, and they told me I was already in their system. I think it took a good 20 minutes to convince that that I was a different person, and that I had never lived at the address they had listed for "me".

My mom had a heck of a time getting insulin due to a doctor's office in Las Vegas using the wrong DOB on an e-Rx after the same doctor seen her locally in our town. They had six patients with her same name, all on the same medication. He was a specialist, so it's not all that odd.
The nurse would not admit they made a mistake the first few phone calls....she kept saying "we faxed the pharmacy" :thatsright: Then she repeated my mom's name and a different date of birth....that solved the mystery. They faxed a pharmacy, just the wrong one, with incorrect patient information. The doctor's office could really jack someone up that way also (or worse.)

It's scarey that you had to convince them that you were not the same patient!

I have had the pharmacy give me a woman's script with the feminine version of my name. M/zeit goes 'didn't you check the label at the counter?' Obviously not. :-) They now use my nickname on my perscriptions.

Express Scripts sent my wife prostate medicine. Then they tried to tell her the doctor had faxed the prescription to them. Then they told her it was meant for me.
The problem with that is I am not taking any prostate medicine and I don't use the same doctor as my wife.
-
When my son was still a baby we went north to visit relatives. While there he developed an ear infection so we took him to see the Dr. that had been a family Dr. for decades.
The Dr. Tended to my son and sent us on our way. On the way out I made sure the lady at the front desk had the insurance info for billing.
Months went by and we never received any paperwork from our insurance company. One day I called my mother and asked her if she could check in to it for us. She called back a few days later and informed us that the Dr's. office have Billed my Dad's insurance coverage for the visit/treatment. My Dad & son have the same name. :-)
The Irony of the situation is that the Dr's office unknowingly perpetrated insurance fraud The same Dr. that had just recently had his license to practice medicine reinstated after being convicted of medicare fraud. He never made a dime off the fraud but saved patients tens of thousands of Dollars.

I am currently shopping for a new dentist after mine retired. The first two questions I ask are "Are you accepting new patients" and "Do you take my insurance". Saves time that way.

Hey DUmmies - that device you used to make contact with the doctor's office is the result of evil capitalism. It's a good thing you didn't have to walk there to make your inquiry.
Further, who is paying for that device answered by the doctor's office Who is paying for the wages of that person who answered the phone? If you guessed the doctor's office, you guessed right.
Now if you expect for people to get those services for free, how is that person who answered the phone expected to receive what you idiots call, a "living wage?"
See how that works? The doctor has a business with lots of expenses, and if you expect it all for free, how long will he or she be in business?
Idiots. :thatsright:

You have to understand how the flow of the call went first.
RING RING
Hello Dr. Blahblahs office, this is Pam. How may I help you?
Hi Pam this is Big DUmmie, I have an embarrassing discharge from my pee-pee that the Doc needs to give me pain killers for.
(computer keyboard tapping noises) OK Mr DUmmie, I see you're a new patient here, is that correct?
Yes, yes it is.
OK Mr DUmmie, do you have insurance?
WHY DO YOU PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THAT?? MEDICAL CARE IS NOW FREE FOR EVERYONE!! JUST GIVE ME MY DOPE AND END THIS INQUISITION!!

You have to do that because there are constant changes with providers, the receptionist will waste a ton of time going through the motions, then all of a sudden she'll say what's your insurance, and it turns out the office doesn't take that insurance, the patient then gets mad and says "well why didn't you ask me about my insurance 1st".

I understand that, being the courteous person, that I am, I state my name, why I am calling and then say, I have such and such insurance, do you accept it?? So Idont waste their time or mine...
