Title: U.S. Senate, Supreme Court
Post by: DefiantSix on October 29, 2012, 06:38:46 PM
Our memories of election night may end up being the night the election didn't happen.
I am guessing if Sandy does as much damage as they are expecting they will postpone the election.

Considering he has ZERO constitutional authority to alter the federal election schedule, it ought to take about 0.68 seconds for the USSC to slap that down on behalf of EITHER Romney OR Congress, after which the whole Obama as "Dick-tater in Chief" comes to a very pointy head.

I wouldn't put it past Barack Milhous to try this, and it needs opposed.

In the course of the history of the United States, there's been many times the weather's proven life-threatening.

That never postponed the elections.

But I wouldn't put it past Barack Milhous to try.

Jay Carney had no comment when asked if they would.

I don't know about that, last time we counted on the USSC to do the right thing our own side knifed us in the back, allowing 0bamacare to stand.

Yeah, but this isn't a 'bad law that can be dealt with by getting rid of those that proposed it.'  This is an actual Constitutional instance.

I trust Roberts about as much as I trust 0bama.

That makes me wonder if he tried...just exactly how the media would cover their guy on that one.

I trust Roberts about as much as I trust 0bama.

Besides, when has the Constitution or the rule of law ever stopped him? Hell, ocean drilling was ordered to resume and they've managed to defy that. I don't trust SCOTUS anymore. Roberts traded in the Constitution and moral backbone so he could be invited to a few more cocktail parties.

To go off topic: Maybe Roberts was crazy like a fox after Obama chided the SC in that speech.

Declaring Obamacare a tax would get the word out, and closer study to see what it's all about.

When people realized it, they would open their eyes and see the Emporer is buck nekkid, and vote Zero out of office.

When Ginsberg et. al. retire, the new POTUS appoints new conservative judges and they revisit it, and declare it unconstitutional.

Same here.  He threw a grenade in barry's lap with calling it a tax when they swore up and down it wasn't.  My opinion is that Roberts played the long game and made them have to defend their new "tax".

And how has that worked? If Barry wins it stands, if Romney wins it will probably stand too, Dingy Harry will make sure of that since they will probably keep the senate.

I'm sorry I'm not buying this silver lining after one of our judges stabbed us in the back.

That is true he is known for doing what he wants, that is why a second term will be devastating.

It made obamacare even more radioactive than it already was.

Okay wasp when Romney wins and the dems keep the senate 0bamacare will not be repealed. Is that better without if and probably?

In 50 years the republicans will be talking about saving 0bamacare. Don't believe me? Look at Medicare that is their position now.

You really think the dems are going to hang on to the Senate?  What makes you think that?

It won't be around in 50 years, neither will Medicare.  None of these are going to survive for much longer as they are unsustainable now.  If anyone is looking ahead with either of these two programs as a constant, they are fooling themselves.  Today's younger generation are not going to be take being saddled with this kind of forced charity lightly and I  believe they will be the ones to kill it.  Sentiment is turning away from entitlements on the backs of the productive, not looking to maintain them.

As far as current Republicans "talking" about saving Medicare, well, we didn't get to where we are in one election cycle and we won't get out of it in one, either.

Me either.  The polls are all over the place and after the disappointment of Robert's SC decision on Obamacare, I'm not getting my hopes up.

I just hope which ever way it goes, it's decisive.  I don't want to see another 2000 election go undecided with pregnant and hanging chads.  If we lose, then we all need to come down on the GOP.  Too many things coming from the left has gone unanswered by Republicans.  Their messaging sucks.

Yes I do think the dems will hold onto the Senate. Even if we manage to get to 51 there is no way 0bamacare will get repealed in the senate. It takes 60 votes. My comment about the GOP trying to save 0bamcare in 50 years I was trying to make a point of once an entitlement is here, it is here to stay. When is the last time we repealed an entitlement? The GOP may be dead set against 0bamacare now, but once that sucker goes into full force and people get their "freebies" it's over.

I'm debating whether I should stop at this comment, or split this argument into another thread. I didn't intend to hijack this thread with the USSC decision.

I think we are going to win, I also think the media is going to do their best to destroy Romney over the next 4 years. The dims will scream fraud and the DUmmies will be suicidal. In other words it will be 2001 through 2009 all over again.  :-)

My fault. I totally hijacked it. If you split it off, I have another comment I'd like to add.

I tend to think that we'll get a 53-47 split again.  The thing is--the Republicans will be on top.  Romney has his momentum, which is slowing only a bit.  Plus, I think that a combination of Bill Clinton and the intel community will spill the story on Benghazi, soon, as both are livid at being thrown under the bus/down the stairs for this (Bill is pissed at Hillary being tossed, not him).  The one wild card is that Obama just may launch an attack on Libya and/or Iran, or Syria, to get votes.  I've heard rumblings of that happening soon.

My thought is that IF the Dems hold the Senate, or we get 51 and there's still some way to stave off the taxes, there is still the 2014 midterms. Can get the Dems who voted for Obamacare out, and get some conservatives in that can repeal this monstrosity.

It can be revisited in the SC after a conservative judge or two are appointed.

We only need 51 Senate votes to repeal, since it is a "budgetary" bill, by virtue of it raising taxes and authorizing spending. The Dems established that precedent when they used reconciliation to pass the ****ing thing.

There is precious little out there to indicate the democratics will hold on to the Senate.  They're down ticket candidates during a very contentious general election where their party's president is extremely unpopular.  Also, they have many more seats to defend this cycle as well as quite a few that are being vacated.  Let us not also forget that obamacare was one of the biggest factors in the 2010 ass kicking which translated into a damn near complete takeover of state legislatures.

If the repubs don't get a super majority, the dems will have to go on record as defending the centerpiece of a completely failed administration.  I, for one, welcome them trying to pull that off after two election cycles where they were demolished.  If they want to complete their slide into political extinction, not repealing that piece of trash would be the biggest way to do it.

I understand your point completely and if the dynamic had not changed so radically over the last 4 years, I would tend to agree.

Not really.  I think that obamacare is the biggest and final overreach of the liberal agenda.  The taxpayers are tired of handing over their hard earned money only to have the very people they are supposed to be helping so brazenly flaunt the luxury items the "obama bucks" have paid for.
