"Of all the men that have run for president in the twentieth century, only George McGovern truly understood what a monument America could be to the human race."

McGovern. The first progressive to be soundly rejected by the American people.
-
For some reason I always confuse him with George Wallace.
-
Waacha bet he votes anyway?
-
I give him 24 business hours.
.

I'll bet him and Spectre are standin' in line together.
-
I didn't know he was still alive.
-
I thought that he had died a long time ago.

It was an epic ass whoopin'.
To George McGovern B-24 jock, I say: RIP and Thank you, Sir. To George McGovern Progressive Jackass, I say: You should have known better.
Heh......
McGovern was assigned to Liberal Army Airfield in Kansas to transition school to learn to fly the B‑24 Liberator, an assignment he was pleased with.
-
McGovern was the point man for the turn of the democrat party from being pro America to anti America.
While I will not gloat in his passing and will wish his family peace it needs to be recognized that the destructive socialist views he had has framed the dems of today.

Maybe you're thinking of George Wallace like I was?

I consider McGovern as more of a "useful idiot" for the radical left than a full blown Marxist ideologue. He was a product of his time -Dust Bowl, Depression - that drew the wrong conclusions and overlooked the consequences and obvious logical end points, of the policies he espoused. I read somewhere that he had become much more of a Libertarian, than the Progressive Loon he appeared to be in '68. But, I could be wrong.
He became the Progressive standard bearer through stupidity and "forces behind the scenes" that hijacked the (D)emocraptastic party. No excuses, Mr. McGovern. You should have known better. Emotion makes for bad policy. I only hope that enough people have relearned that lesson now.

This always comes to mind when someone mentions George Wallace. Apt, or not.

Nixon vs McGovern was the first presidential election my college roommate and I were old enough to vote.
I was for Nixon and she was for McGovern. Neither one of us was very political nor did we have philosophical discussions regarding either candidate.
We both voted and obviously "my" side won.
She didn't speak to me for 2 weeks because it was "my fault" that Nixon won.
Yeah, my vote was the reason..... :thatsright:
-
There you go again, debk, causing trouble wherever you go. :-)
The mother of a childhood friend stated that she was going to vote for McGovern because he seemed like a "nice man." :thatsright: Women, sheesh. Why do I remember this? Even as a kid, it struck me as inadequate. There must be more of a criteria than that.

That was my first election too. I turned eighteen that year. Nixon made American sense to me. McGovern was a philosophical screwball.

Well isn't that why they have the "Absentee Ballot"? :whatever:
-
Did we ever clarify if McGovern is still around? I ain't sure, guess I'll break down and look it up.

It was in yesterday's news that he is now in hospice.

Lots of people confuse him with Eugene McCarthy who is [considered] the candidate who caused LBJ do abdicate the '68 election and who's supporters caused most of the problems at the ChiTown convention. I remember watching TV at the time to see if I knew anyone getting their hair parted by Daley's finest. I have never regretted not attending that slug fest although at the time I knew several people who did. :hammer:

Cleaning up that swarm of scum was one of Mayor Daley's few honorable actions.
As a bonus, it helped get the democrat ticket defeated.

McGovern must have had a "scrooge" moment after his congressional time.
How To Create Jobs, By George McGovern
From “A Politician’s Dream Is a Businessman’s Nightmareâ€, by George McGovern, WSJ, June 1992:
(break)
I also wish that during the years I was in public office, I had had this firsthand experience about the difficulties business people face every day. That knowledge would have made me a better U.S. senator and a more understanding presidential contender.

I'm still trying to figure out what his "lasting impact" was. (from the article)

The thing I could never understand is why the Great Humanitarian George McGovern cared more for the lives and safety of socialist thugs, and not at all for the millions of their innocent victims.
I never thought of that as being particularly humanitarian.

He and Ted Kennedy could share the same motel room.
-
I think McGovern had a lasting, profound, political impact.
He was the first national candidate to establish the democrat party as the party of deadbeats, misfits, losers, socialists, hippies, yippies, potheads, and queers.
Before McGovern, democrats like FDR, Truman, Kennedy, LBJ, Humphrey, etc., were mainstream, normal, civilized people, albeit wrongheaded.
Beginning with McGovern, the democrat party has pandered almost exclusively to the weirdo dregs of society.

I am horrible because I thought he already died.

His wife died maybe about a year ago, and that was in the news.
-
I thought he had been dead for years. Nobody ever talks about him.
(wasn't around in 1972)

I'm with you, Boss. I thought he died right after Regan!
-
Apparently he passed early this morning.
His family and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.
-
Bye George.
-
Buh bye

McGovern died an honorable man.
