A friend of mine saw someone using food stamps to pay for ice cream bars.
She was in line behind the woman in the grocery store. As she stood there waiting her turn, the two women behind my friend said in a very loud voice, "Must be nice to have food stamps to pay for ice cream bars." As my friend tried to think what to say, the woman ahead of her turned and said, "Yes, it is wonderful to have food stamps to pay for ice cream bars. And tonight when your kids get to go to the football game, you think about my kids, we can't afford to go to the football game. And tomorrow, on Saturday, when your kids get to go to the movies, my kids will be at the park, because we can't afford to go to the movies. And on Sunday, when you go to brunch, or for a ride in the country, or shopping, think of my kids, because that's the day we will be eating the ice cream bars. All weekend I will be saying to them, 'On Sunday we get ice cream bars.' Yes, I certainly am lucky to be able to buy ice cream bars with my food stamps."

Who has money to go to the movies, football game, the park, a ride, or shopping when we have to give all this money to EBT'ers to buy ice cream bars ?
-
We knew this was coming, from the sheer numbers of threads about EBT's over there.
There will no doubt be another two or three pop up to "out do" the first bouncy.
-
I sure hope that the members of the democrat party make this about not giving enough in government programs to the poor. PLEASE! PLEASE!
Then we can talk about who is responsible for the massive surge in poor and food stamp recepients. Today I heard Obama say it was his wife and daughters.
-
Where do these people shop? I never see people talking like this in line at the grocery store.

Just the voices in the DUmmies' heads, trying for street cred at the DUmp.
-
I am 42 years old and have never heard politics discussed in any food market line.

I remember that every time that I am behind someone getting steak with their EBT card while I am behind them buying hamburger.
-
The closest thing I've ever seen was when my youngest became impatient in a Wal-Mart line because the family ahead of us sent someone back 3 times to change one item for another. When my kid grumbled, I explained quickly how WIC works, and that it can be pretty difficult to figure out what is "ok" and what is not, especially the first time someone gets those checks.
The older woman with the kids, I suppose their grandmother, overheard and smiled at me, made some comment of apology. I told her it was no big deal, had been through the same thing myself.
(Sorry, unlike some people, I can't remember every word of a conversation.) :-)
-
These things are getting pathetic. They are painful to read.
-
...and then the food stamp lady got a call on her iPhone...
-
Well then, I'm owed a lot of ice cream bars, movies and ball games that I was denied when I was younger....I'll settle for beer and travel money.

The wrinkled, bitter little DUmpmonkey Anne Pritchett (our 2010 Top DUmmy due solely to the efforts of franksolich) hates her fellow DUmmies as much as she hates us. She doesn't hesitate to drop the hammer on this awful bouncy tale.

11. So the people BEHIND your friend looked over her shoulder to see how the person IN FRONT OF HER was
paying for her groceries???
Food stamps are on a card now, just like a credit card. All of these critics must either have telescopic vision or a bad habit of invading personal space to look at the kind of plastic card being used to buy groceries.
I call bullshit on most of these stories.
This prompts an attempted recovery as awkward as anything Pam Dawson ever tried:

I say :bs: why didn't they mention that initially?

EBT cars look distinctively different. And yes I do look because you can only read the front page of the tabloids for so long. It's a game I play and am correct more, much more often than wrong.

And how can they recall what was exactly said a decade later? They must have a pornophotographic memory. Or they recorded the whole thing.

52. I always notice when someone's using the food stamp card
Mainly because the line slows/stops for no perceptible reason, so I glance down the line to see what the hold up is. The cashier has to process the card/groceries in some way that takes a little extra time.
Sometimes, and I think this makes me a horrible person, I'll go to another line when I see someone holding their Link card here in California. It basically screams "This line is about to be held up." I'm not sure why, and I always wince inwardly for the person because not only may they be self-conscious about using the card, but then they've got a line of impatient, eye-rolling people behind them.
I wish they'd change how it's processed.
But, yeah, this does sound like a Bouncy story. I never encounter these "perfect public spectacle" political responses. They're just a little too precious.
(emphasis added)
Love how this poster calls it a Bouncy. :lmao:

I know what we need....an alarm and a large flashing light that goes off every time you swipe one of those cards.... :-) That would cut down a little bit of their use.

I would be happy if the alarm and light went off when they bought crap food with my money.

You knew it would happen. A really lame bouncy very often inspires another DUmpmonkey to spin a secondary bouncy:

81. Yeah, maybe if it had been the FIRST time anyone had ever said anything to her in that vein.
Blah, blah, blah
Me, I've snapped back at a lot of people for picking on someone else. One day I was at Sam's Club, I know I shouldn't shop there, but..... there was a line at the snack counter up front in sight of the check out lines. I like the 4 berry ice cream and was waiting in line to get one. The line was a little spread out and some kids came up and were looking at the menu and the money they had in hand doing calculations.
This old biddy behind me tells them they need to get in line that there are others there before them. OK, her tone wasn't the greatest and they were just reading the menu, but in and of itself, not a huge deal. BUT she doesn't let it rest. She keeps after them, wanting to know where their parents are and that they better not buy more than they can afford. See they were little brown children speaking Spanish.
She had her back to me and I had my ice cream, but I just could NOT deal with it so I said, "What business is it of yours whether they have enough money or not?"
She turns around and says, "Well where are their parents? They can't be in this line if their parents aren't here." At this point the younger kid runs to his dad who is in line paying for his items and the kid is in tears.
"It's STILL not your problem. Buy your stuff and move along lady." She was next in line and keeps grumbling but I just stand off to the side and glare right at her. When the kids get up to the line, the older brother has enough for his item and a dollar left over but it isn't enough to get the young kid a 4 berry sundae, so I gave him mine.
Their dad comes up thinking he has to pay for it, but I told him I already did. I said I just can't STAND people like that, so the treat is on me. I told the kids, "Nobody should talk to you like that. She's a mean old lady. I just want you to know not everyone is like her."
Then I went and sat at the table with my hubby who wanted to know what happened to my ice cream. I told him I gave it to the kid and why. I was still hot under the collar and fuming that someone could be such a racist toward little kids.
And then, one of those rare tertiary bouncies:

101. That reminds me
of an incident some time ago. I was shopping for my family and my Mother in law. My MIL was on food stamps at the time (she received about 10$ a month) But, I was not using her stamps.
I had two carts full since I hate to shop and try to get a months supply at a time. Someone in the check out line made a remark about how nice it must be to use food stamps. I had no clue why the ****** assumed that I was on food stamps.
Maybe she simply assumed that someone with my complexion couldn't afford to buy two carts of groceries without guv'mit help.
I didn't respond. Just smiled and checked out.

She bought the kids ice cream...with her own money...that she scammed from the government.

I'm sure fistacuffs would show up in our grocery store if something like that happened... these bitches are crazy here.

So now it's racist to tell someone to get in line? :rotf:

I don't even need to look at the card to know welfare folks around these parts. All I need to do is see that the beer, cigs, and other stuff that welfare don't pay for in a separate spot on the belt to be rung up separately. Not to mention all the steaks, ribs and brand name stuff they are buying.
I can usually tell them in the aisles cause they rarely look at the price. What pisses me off is they wait until they get in line to find out they ain't got enough left on their card and then the "take this out, take that out, reswipe the card" dance starts. :argh: :argh: :argh:

Even though DUwellstone admitted it is a 10 yr old bouncy, DUmmies continue making responses as if it were fresh "Well, it's been hot this summer", and the like.
I think most of them read a few lines of an OP, and then jump in with a response that will enhance their DUcredibility. Kinda sad, really.

I agree the whining, snivelling, neckbearded disability scamster is a Top Ten, but not second place.
Second place could be a hot topic, since the top spot has been clear for months.

No shit.
I still have mystery medical bills showing up in the mail from my stroke in Feb.
If I only had Medicaid I would not of had to pay a few thousand out of pocket.
My entertainment is paying bills online

got to tell you that if I ran this it would involve only milk, cheese, vegetables, beans, and rice that they come to get every week. You have all seen how the rest of the world deals with food distribution to the poor. I don't think our poor should be part of the 1% poor of the world, do you?

Back in the 1960s, that's the way it was set up; staples only.
I don't think any sort of prepared food--and especially not soda or candy--should be covered.
Bacon, steaks, hamburger, poultry, pork, flour, sugar, coffee, tea, fresh fruits and fresh vegetables, and other foods that one has to prepare yes. But not any of this other junk.

I'd set up government stores for them. These idiots are all so hot for government to control their lives, then they should suffer the consequences of getting food at a DMV type food store. That right there would be an incentive to get off welfare.

You know, that's an idea worth exploring, although I seriously doubt free-enterprise private retailers would go for it.
Having only certain governmentally-run places where those with food-stamps can use them; the inventory would be limited to only items eligible under the program.
But again, I doubt if the private retailers would like it.

In North Carolina, the state owns and runs all the liquor stores. They were called ABC stores (Alcoholic Beverage Commission).
I have no experience with WIC, but stores should have the ability to flag those items easily if they don't already. Limiting food stamp bums to WIC items should be easy enough but the state would have to make that decision.
