Another school shooting. Another bully shot. Another victim in police custody.
This happened today, the first day of school, in a nearby county. The specifics don't matter. The issue is bullying.
The story is very much still breaking, so all of this is based on preliminary news from a chaotic scene.
It seems the basic story is all too familiar.
Over the summer, one kid was bullied by others, but mostly by one kid in particular.
The kid who was bullied was one of the all-in-black/trenchcoat types. He brought some sort of long gun to school today. In the cafeteria, he shot his tormentor in the back. So far, no one is dead, but the shooting victim/bully is in critical condition.
Three teachers tackled the still-armed young person, knocked him down, and disarmed him. (who says teachers are underpaid????) The shooter/bullied kid is in police custody.
. . . . . . so once again, it comes to this.
I probably won't report any further developments in this case. Honestly, it is painfully ordinary.
The issue, once again and to be clear, is bullying. We need to create ways in which bullied kids can *safely* report their plight. By *safely* I mean they have to be taken seriously and their identity has to be protected to keep them from further shunning by their peers.
and cali is the 'sane one' again:

29. murderers are worse than bullies.
a bullied kid has the opportunity to work through being bullied. Just like I, the victim of childhood physical and sexual abuse, had the opportunity to work through that. Murder victims do not ever have that opportunity.
And no, I don't enable or lionize bullies.
Too bad you excuse murderers like Diebold and Harris. And you clearly do that.
Disgusting.
Hey, good try at bullying me, honey.
It won't work.

116. No. It was lame. Your OP clearly stated ...
"The kid who was bullied was one of the all-in-black/trenchcoat types. He brought some sort of long gun to school today. In the cafeteria, he shot his tormentor in the back. So far, no one is dead, but the shooting victim/bully is in critical condition."
You stated this plainly with the implication that it was known as fact. So much so that some irresponsible person at HuffPost decided to cite your post as a source. Just throwing a sentence or two in there about how this is still a chaotic breaking story only implies that there are more facts to come.
You screwed up. Take responsibility.

Leave it to Stinkbait to stand up for the criminal and not the victim.

Stinkdude must have been stalker over here when DOTY was being mentioned. Figured he had to do/say something really stupid, to try to get more votes.

The boy who was shot, if this is the same story, was a down syndrome child. This victim was not anyone's tormentor.

Finally something that Stinky is expert in.

Alleged Baltimore School Shooter's Victim Has Down's Syndrome (http://abcnews.go.com/US/baltimore-school-shooting-victim-downs-syndrome/story?id=17094155#.UD1m8MFlSZk)
When Robert Gladden allegedly opened fire in the Perry Hall High School cafeteria he critically injured Daniel Borowy, a 17-year-old who suffers from Down's syndrome.

Way to go, Stinky.

When I went to school you were allowed to defend yourself from bullies...or at least get your bigger, badder, buddy to slap him a round a little for you... :-)
Damn liberals and their rules make everything so damned complicated.

Yep, now they punish the bully's victim more for defending themselves than they do the bully.

I wonder if Stinky will offer a correction in 24 business hours?

Typical liberal.
Even when when reporting it, he repeatedly stresses that the victim was a bully, as if that were the defining point of this whole thing.
He says that the main issue is bullying: What about the issue of a kid who was clearly mentally unstable and with warning signs yet which nobody (i.e. parents, teachers, etc.) did aything about before the shooting? That seems to be the case in a lot of these shootings over the last few years: The shooter was someone who was clearly disturbed and openly displaying a lot of the warning signs for violent behavior, and yet nobody did a blessed thing about it until it was far too late.
What about all the kids who were bullied (Myself included when I was a kid, in middle and ESPECIALLY high school) who DON'T shoot people or resort to other forms of violence?
Bullying is a problem, yes, one which I would love to see eradicated from our schools, but I think a more effective way of stopping such acts of violence is by spreading more awareness among kids, parents, and teachers of the warning signs that someone may be at risk of becoming violent, so that if someone begins demonstrating those signs, the others can recognize it and ensure that the person in question gets the help he or she needs in time. When I was in high school, they at one point distributed a pamphlet put out by 'Fight for Your Rights' (A kind of social- outreach program MTV sponsored in the late 90's to help regular teens take a stand against violence and crime) which listed the warning signs for kids who may be at risk for violence or suicide, offered advice and resources for helping them, etc.. I'd say bringing back something like that would be helpful.
btw, another cause of bullying is the control that liberalism has over our schools. Liberal teachers and administrators do next to nothing to try and discipline troublemaking kids and keep them under control, out of fear of "Harming their self- esteem" or "Stifling their creativity" or some crap like that, creating a consequence- free environment under which bullying thrives.

Atta boy, Stinky! Way to justify shooting a kid with Downs Syndrome, ya stupid shit!
What's next, clubbing crippled kids? Body-slamming kids with cerebral palsy? You're just a ****ing laugh riot, you are.

Fat Che's Little Brother
10. You're damn right.
The "victims" at Columbine were no such thing. They were bullies -- tormentors who actively targeted and sought to destroy those they perceived as weaker than them. And our system protected them.
The shooters at Columbine weren't justified in the murders, but they were the real victims. They had been victims for years and finally snapped.
I don't think that the dead at Columbine deviously made themselves into victims. Our system did that for them. And attitudes like the one you expressed here are what enable bullies to continue to do what they do.
The hampster packer is one sick idiot.
Hey FCLB, maybe one day someone will view your constant attempt at belittling their POV as you bullying them and decide to pop a cap in you. When I'm on the jury, I'll be sure to remind them that in your opinion you were the bully and the shooter was the victim.
.
-
(who says teachers are underpaid????)
They caused the problem so why shouldn't they have to deal with it? Keep on toke'n :stoner: stupi....err stinky.
-
Its been reported that the victim is dead and the shooter is being charged with First Degree murder. Just like he should be. Some of us like me have had bullies after us but we never took a gun to school to deal with it. You either let the bully win or you stood up to him and had it out. Win or lose , it's better to stand up and fight back.
-
The post by "Fat Che's Little Brother" honestly made me want to throw up.
That is the ultra- liberal "Weep over the killer, blame the victim" mentality at its absolute worst.
"The "victims" at Columbine were no such thing. They were bullies -- tormentors who actively targeted and sought to destroy those they perceived as weaker than them."
That one statement is not only heartless and the sort of thing that could inspire future shootings (Especially considering how mentally unstable much of the DUmp already is), it also demonstrates colossal amounts of ignorance about what happened that day.
1. They wanted to kill not just the specific bullies who picked on them, but ALL jocks, including those who had nothing to do with the bullying. Witnesses in the library stated that one of them shouted "All jocks stand up! We're going to kill every one of you!"
2. Was Rachel Scott (The killers' first victim, a 17 year old girl who was a devout Christian and well- known for her friendly, compassionate nature) a "Bully" or a "Tormentor"? How about William "Dave" Sanders (The only teacher killed in the massacre, shot several times while attempting to lead students down a hallway to safety, causing him to bleed to death; He posthumously received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for his selfless bravery)? Was he a "Bully" or a "Tormentor"?
3. The shooting was sort of a contingency plan for the killers. They originally wanted to blow up the school using propane bombs that they planted in the school cafeteria, and only started shooting when the bombs failed to go off. In plain English: They wanted to kill everyone in the school.
"The shooters at Columbine weren't justified in the murders, but they were the real victims. They had been victims for years and finally snapped."
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were violent psychopaths for a long time before the massacre. They and their "Trenchcoat Mafia" buddies challenged the jocks to a planned fight, and showed up to it (2 hours late and in the wrong spot) wielding swords and brass knuckles. They had a custom- designed map for the shooter video game 'Doom' which resembled the interior of Columbine High School. They were also virulent white supremacists known for going bowling and shouting "Heil Hitler" when they made a good throw (At least one of the students killed in the massacre was black). They epitomize what I said earlier about the nature of mass shooters: Clearly, notably disturbed individuals who were amply demonstrating all the warning signs of violent behavior, yet nobody paid any attention to it, let alone did anything about it, until it was too late.
That one post by Fat Che's Little Brother is the reason why liberals should not be allowed any position of power within our justice system.

When I woke up this morning, I remembered this thread from five years ago, and that the sparkling old dude had never apologized for his jumping to conclusions.
<<<has good memory; recalls just about everything the sparkling old dude ever said, and every promise Lamond MrsCorpio's made but never carried out, from about the time we got to know them, circa 2006 or 2007 at our old home.

Yeah, I failed to notice the date stamp. But he and DU are consistent in this respect. If there's a bright shiny narrative in prospect, no conclusion is so absurd that they won't leap to it (and in it). They are well-practiced, Olympic-class Conclusion-Jumpers.

You are freaking uncanny!
I was reminded of this thread myself this morning!
I remembered it mainly because, as I indicated in my second comment on it, the post by Fat Che's Little Brother summed up perfectly just what a screwed up concept of "Justice" the far- left has, and how they should have as little control as possible over our justice system, if any at all.
-

I'm sure the sparkling old dude, and the promises-making Lamond MrsCorpio, think so too, how remarkable franksolich's memory is, remembering all and everything they've ever said, no matter how long ago or how obscure.
But as it's a skill I use only as a public service, for the good of humanity, it's copacetic.

So.....I'm reading about the sparkling old dude in a culinary magazine--the sparkling old dude after all is not without some accomplishment, mostly because of his first wife, whom he so casually cast aside for his current much-younger trophy wife--and there's an article in it suggesting to restauranteurs that to save on water bills, they install waterless urinals in their establishments.
<<<wonders how that might fly with health and sanitation inspectors; franksolich for one would go nowhere where piss sits in pools stinking up a place.

Okay. New question.
Why was the sparkling old dude having anything to do with an event sponsored by Under Armour?
The primitives are supposed to be boycotting Under Armour.

That's Sparkler in the Adidas cap? Does the cap - as it would for me - suggest what his hairstyle is?
Well, I ran his family name in the 2017 results page, and found he finished the 5K in 4522nd place out of 4530 (if his name is Michael), with a chip time of 1:02:27.3, 30th (and last) in the Male 65-69 Age Group. I would have been in the next younger age group, and mostly walking would have finished a little under 45 minutes (I'm not fast, and won't :rotf: , but STC was either messing around, has a physical limitation, or is pretty out of shape).
I assume Sparkler was there for the St. Patrick's Day festivities and/or was with family and/or friends. Unless it's something like the Froyo Run (http://thefroyorun.com/) I don't pay a lot of attention to the commercial sponsors. I'm not sure if I'd care if Ben & Jerry's or Progressive Insurance were a sponsor. OTOH, politics isn't my whole life, so I might not have the same mindset Sparkler does.
-

Yeah, that's the old sourass in the Adidas cap.
His "hair-style" is.....bald.
And to think, this is the guy who years ago tossed aside his first wife because she was getting matronly of build, and some facial hairs, as do most women of Italianate derivation. The woman who helped him rise in a pretty good career, the woman who bore and raised his children, the woman who loved him, and he tossed her aside for the mean vicious harridan he has now.
In case one doesn't know, the sparkling old dude in profile looks nothing more than like an ancient Greek minotaur; I've never ascribed that sort of skull to the Italianate race, but apparently it does happen once in a while.
I have no idea who the three chicks are; none of them is his much-younger trophy wife however; she has facial wrinkles and they don't.
I wouldn't be too harsh on his finish of 4522 out of 4530; he's an old man, and trying something many males his age don't bother trying. In fact, I'd congratulate him for the effort; it's a Hell of lot better than much-younger franksolich could do at the moment, due to a heart attack two years ago that's kept me down. The sparkling old dude also had a heart attack, but that was a long time ago now, and besides, he never smoked cigarettes as heavily as franksolich did.
Thus is life. One excels in some things, flunks in other things.
-

Seriously? IMHO,anyone who bullies or attacks a child with Downs should be prosecuted under "special circumstances" laws. This means the death penalty if the child was murdered, and a felony change in place of a misdemeanor charge if he or she was "just" physically attacked.
-

I wasn't trying to be harsh. My last 5K time was 59:56, 4th in my age group, and 448th out of 485. I was keeping pace with my wife, who was checking out her recovery from a fibula fracture 9 months earlier. With a vacation that included some walking around in England, she wanted to be sure she could do 3+ miles at an easy pace. The bottom line in such races is that we are where we are - every runner - and except for a very few really fast runners, our "competition" is ourselves. And as you said, Sparkles did a whole lot better than the many people who won't or can't.

So, his middle name is "Louis":

You're right, Pete, that's a pretty poor showing and Stinky just turned 70. What franksolich said about his first wife is true - she is the mother of Stinky's two grown sons and she's now living in Vermont close to one of her sons that is an RN.
Shelia is 69 and went back to her maiden name (good), Monica is around 59 now and never really changed hers.

He rejects a high-class wife for a second-rate wench.

The race results list a city as Virginia for him. I assume that obit is ~13 1/2 years old. I'm an age group younger than STC. Today I might be able to do a flat 5K in about 50 minutes, and probably pay for it the following day with a gout attack. So I get that STC may have limitations beyond not walking several miles a day for exercise. My current issues have me 3/4 POed half the time.

Stinky just turned 70.
The age of the primitives has to be one of the bigger surprises and disappointments that I've noted over time of observation. If they were in their early to mid-20's, maybe even early 30's, you could forgive some of the things they say and believe either because they're just young and haven't experienced life or possibly they haven't been taught better, that their thought process just hasn't reached the point where they can fully understand. But then you come to learn many of them are in their 60's and 70's, and that they never matured in thought beyond their youth, and it's confounding. You wonder what went wrong.
Part of what allows society's to continue is that as a particular generation gains age they also gain wisdom, and then they pass that on to the next generation who may not accept it at first, as youth can be an idealist time, but sooner or later they come around and realize their parents weren't as stupid as they thought they were; that, in fact, they were right about a whole lot of things. But now we've got a large amount of the Gen X generation who never grew up, as evidenced by observing the primitives. Sadly, their kids will look to them and believe they are what being mature is all about, not knowing they're really observing a group of 60 and 70 year olds who are mentally still children.
I'm not sure who is to blame; the parents who somehow didn't teach their kids how to eventually grow up, or the kids themselves for refusing to grow up. Probably a combination of both. But it doesn't bode well for the country unless, by some miracle, the majority of a whole generation look back and see that their parents failed to become mature adults, and they're determined to reverse that trend for the sake of their own children and beyond.
Otherwise, the country becomes full of modern-day liberals, and then that's all she wrote. Into the dust-bin of history it goes.
.
-
Sparkles, like me, is a Baby-Boomer. Many of my generation were coddled by parents who wanted their kids not to have it as rough as they did during the Great Depression. Similarly, many of my generation rejected their parents' and older people's wisdom: some grew out of that; some never did. Personally, I did not reject and reel against my wiser parents. Many on DU, OTOH, did AND never really grew out of it.
-
.
Yeah, it's pretty amazing, how the primitives fool one upon first encounter.
Given the substance of their comments, one assumes these are teenagers and others in their early 20s who really haven't been out in the world yet.
And then the astonishment when one finds out that, really, more than half the primitives are over the age of 50.
They're just old balding potbellied once-been hippies who still want to be Peter Pan, never growing up.
The Grim Reaper isn't reaping hard enough, damn it.
