Court clears Israeli army over death of U.S. activist

(Reuters) - An Israeli court on Tuesday rejected accusations that Israel was to blame for the death of American activist Rachel Corrie, who was crushed by an army bulldozer during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Gaza in 2003.
Corrie's family had accused Israel of intentionally and unlawfully killing their 23-year-old daughter, launching a civil case in the northern Israeli city of Haifa after a military investigation had cleared the army of wrong-doing.
Judge Oded Gershon said Corrie's death was a "regrettable accident", but invoked a clause that absolved the army because the incident had happened during a war-time situation, adding that the activist had ignored warnings to leave the area.
Corrie came from Olympia, Washington, and was a volunteer with the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement. She had been wearing a bright orange vest at the time of the incident but the bulldozer driver said he never saw her.

It almost seems like you are with that last sentence.
Not sure how white American college students are being oppressed by Israel. Her death is tragic, but she made the choice to put herself in a dangerous situation. The fact that she could have been killed standing up for what she believed in is what, in fact, made her so brave.
And your first paragraph is not correct. If accuracy is important to you, you ought to check the facts. The Israeli sniper you reference was not charged with killing two Palestinian women because there was not enough evidence to do so. He was convicted of a much less serious offense which warranted the light punishment.

Absolutely. The Israeli house-destruction policy involved was about as effective as our own DOJ's policy of seizing people's homes if their kid was selling drugs out of them back in the Clinton years and probably created a lot more terrorists than it deterred, but that's the kind of game they play in that corner of the world, on both sides. Once upon a time I would have said "Although I'm not a big fan of her politics and don't agree with what she was doing, we're still talking about the death of a human being here. So, yeah, respect for the dead and her family are in order." And perhaps I still should. However, combine the fact that she cheerleaded on behalf of murderers with the fact that the left constantly claps, cheers, and dances with glee whenever an actual decent American dies, it makes it difficult to invoke the better angel of my nature. They say she wanted a better world? How nice. One wonders what kind of would the three year old Isreali boy murdered in that terrorist rocket attack would have wanted. I wonder what kind of world St. Corrie wanted for him as she demonstrated on behalf of his killers. I wonder how many portraits the Kingshit terrorist commissioned for him to present to his parents.

Nor does she deserve leftist absolution and attempts to ruin the lives of another individual who was seeking his own country's protection from terrorism.
Working for a better world does not protect you from the perils and harm that could befall you in a dangerous war environment. Somehow liberals think the realities of the world and life should carry an exemption for them; another justification of their whole 'good intentions' thing.
Edited to add I don't recall DUers having a lot of sympathy for missionaries who are killed in dangerous areas. In those cases it seems those individuals should have accepted responsibility for being in a dangerous area and the perils that came with it. At least in Corrie's case, she was given a warning to mind herself and that was putting herself in harms way. Many missionaries killed don't have that opportunity and they are far LESS hostile to the local community then a bunch of mushy brained peace activist 20 something year olds.
