Title: I'm Texas-Bound
Post by: Eupher on May 10, 2012, 08:06:55 PM
Okay, all you chili-ites (no beans, natcherly), I'm gonna be crashing your AO from 24 June till, oh, let's say maybe 29 June. I have to do a compliance audit of a facility in Dallas on Monday, 25 June. After that, I'm looking for a party to crash. And apart from a side trip to the Killeen area on Wednesday, 27 June where I'm gonna be making some music, I'm sorta wide open for suggestions.

Those of you who brag all about Texas and your hospitality, here's your chance.  :-)

If you get as far away as NWA from Dallas, you're welcome, it would be Razorback hospitality though.

I might come up and meet you out somewhere.

Send me your deets....like where you are staying and stuff.  I will definitely be available for a dinner or something.  I will be smack dab in the middle of my dual 401K audits, and looking for a diversion!  Maybe after your trip to Killeen would be better for you timewise.  I am relatively low-brow, so if you are looking for a nifty hangout, you might want to ring someone else.

Perhaps we can get Mike and Thor and CC to join us.  And Beg, if she wants to come up.  Maybe even Ralph if he comes to town around then.

I don't have a place picked out yet, but will likely get to that tomorrow. Most likely it'll be just off I-30 and N. Cockrell Hill Rd. PM out.

Lowbrow does me just fine. I even like it when they throw peanut shells on the floor.

Sounds like a good deal. On the way down, I think I'm going to overnight in Tulsa (what the hell -- I'm a glutton for punishment, right?  :rotf: ) and get to your area by mid-morning on 24 June. I'll reimburse you for the fixings (expense account an' all).

I like Texas Land and Cattle better than Texas Roadhouse. I always think Texas Roadhouse will be great and every time we try it again it is "MEH". They have great rolls and they do have peanuts aplenty though.

In Killeen the Texas Roadhouse and the Outback are right beside ea. Other. Go to the Roadhouse for cheaper and better drinks then go to Outback to eat.  :cheersmate:

I didn't get a chance to do so on Friday, but I'll be booking my hotel on Monday. After that, can you plot the possibilities on a map, Tots, and share it with all? Try to find out an evening that'll work for everybody?

You're HR - you're better with this sort of thing than I am.  :-)

I'm postponing the audit until late September. I need to combine the Dallas audit with one in Jacksonville, TX and the J-ville audit was postponed -- out of my control.

But I guaran-damn-tee you, I will make the trek to Texas.

And  your state will never be the same again...... :evillaugh:

If the weather here in September is going to be anything like last year we might want to consider meeting in Anchorage.

Not all of us can afford the luxury of dining at Texas Land & Cattle. It's significantly MORE expensive than Texas Roadhouse, at least for what I like to eat.

I think the thing to do is put this thread to bed for the time being. We can resurrect it toward early September and by that time, there should be a couple of Chik-Filets that will have popped up by then. Either that, or this dive:

Lighten up, Francis. It was a joke.

As far as I'm concerned, we can brown bag it on a park bench somewhere and feed the pigeons with the leftovers. What's important is the PEOPLE, not the venue.

I thought that's what the chewing gum was for.

Actually, the biggest reason for the constipation is that when you're in the field, training and otherwise don't have access to real food, people generally don't drink nearly enough water. Ergo, jackhammer time.

Uh...we can put this thread to bed till September. Too many jackhammer stories.  :lmao:

As mentioned last night on Facebook and in the spirit of CG's trip out to Airy-zona, I'm on my way to Huntsville, AL. From there to Tyler, Texas on Sunday after the AMM reunion; audit in Jacksonville, Texas till Wednesday of next week; another audit in Dallas on Thursday; a side trip to San Antonio to visit an old band buddy probably for the last time (he's terminal with Interstitial Lung Disease); a merry little jaunt from there up to Austin to drop in on my stepson long enough to buy him dinner; then up to the Dallas/Denison/whatever-you-call-it area for a meetup with some of you folks; and then home again on Sunday, 30 Sept.

Total mileage: 2,680.

I was really surprised at how much US-66 follows I-40. If I had more time, I'd have stopped at some places on the Mother Road.

I did stay in Santa Rosa, NM, one night, right on the Mother Road and nex to I-40 road.

With both trips - our vacaton and the recent trip for my sister - and including other trips, I've put on about 10,000 miles on my pickemup this summer.
