I have the LG500G and I still use it mostly for calls and only occasionally use it to upload a picture to Facebook.

If you look at CC on your iPhone, get "Tapatalk." It makes things much easier!

I bought that 1 for my husband, he goes through Tracfone, I have the LG 900G through Net 10.

BTW thundley, what browser are you using on the 500G? Tracfone and Net 10's browsers stink, but I was able to install Mini-Opera on both of our phones, and I also downloaded a browser called Bolt on mine.

I haven't added any browser. I think I accessed Facebook once and just used whatever was installed on the phone.

Oh OK, if you want to surf the net just download Mini-Opera and or Bolt, it's less aggravation.

I don't see how you guys can live with those old phones. There are so many apps that make daily life WAY easier. I have recipes, maps, Wikipanion, Tapa for the board, Gas Buddy, it has GPS, any game you want, a HD and Lowes App, Amazon, Pageonce for bill pay/financial management, youtube, a calculator (you can download a TON of various calculators), it's an MP3 player, news channels, sports, etc. I couldn't live without this thing now.

I can actually do a lot with my pre-pay phone, we got rid of Verizon about 10 years ago and I love not getting a monthly bill.

I used to use bolt on my curve, I really liked it.

But I literally couldn't live without my iPhone.

If we were big cellphone users then I might have to re-think a prepaid plan, but we're really not, we use the phone once in a while, and text once in a while, and I usually just browse the net when we're in the car.

I use the iPhone for work, typically around 900 minutes a month. Plus several GB's of data and nearly 1,500 texts.

It's all just fluff to create the illusion of making life easier. Granted I didn't realize exactly how much I counted on my computer for doing things until I didn't have a working computer to to those things but I was still able to perform those tasks.

People are becoming slaves to technology. No one talks anymore, go to the bank or grocery store or whatever. No one is talking to anyone around them everyone is glued to their phones. Are they trading stocks & bonds where secs could mean hundreds or thousands of dollars,no they are playing games or talking gossip with someone on the other end. People are spending $50 , $75 , $100 or more a month for a damn phone then complaining a loaf of bread cost $ 2

Perhaps Bally, that is why those of who are older, and grew up before the cell phone era, tend to shun all of this technology........not because it's not useful or fun, or that we don't know how to use it.......but because we've learned that it is valuable to have time to one's own thoughts, without a device that is constantly intruding on your contemplation with calls, texts, emails, etc.

When I retired a couple of years ago, the most rewarding moment of that process was to turn in the Blackberry that I was required to carry at all times.......the thing was an all-around pain in the ass.....useful, yes, but intrusive and annoying.  Nobody needs to be able to instantly communicate with anyone else 24/7.

YMMV.

TVDOC, I think I'm using your same phone.   :-)  No big whoop, I use the computer for computer stuff, and the phone for calls.  Can't use the phone in the car here, it's a huge fine and 3 points.  They're on a rampage at the moment.

My husband and his son see each other about once/year.  This last Christmas visit, son sits transfixed by his iphone.  Glued, not engaged with anyone.  There was a gigantic fight.  Nuff said.

I call them Electronic Leashes.  I quite often have my cell phone on call transfer to my office manager. She'll jump my shit about it being annoying as hell having to field my calls, I have to give her a gentle reminder about being paid to get annoyed by fielding my calls.  This from the same lady that's forever telling me to take time off ,get away for awhile because she & my project manager have everything under control.  :???:

I use my phone for everything from checking my email to catching up on work to playing games. I used to be a die hard Blackberry user to now so in love with my iPhone 4s.
Plus with all the great apps I have built in entertainment for the kids when we are stuck in traffic or anything life throws our way.

I was born in the 60's and it's weird but I never felt bored in the 80's and early 90's, now I find I get bored easily or I go to the other extreme and feel completely overwhelmed.

I thought nothing would be better than my Motorola RAZR, and I still think as a telephone it can't be improved upon.

I've also always had an instinctive dislike for hippie-dippy moonbat Apple products.

But I decided the fifth iPhone I bought would be for me, so a few months ago I got a 4s. It's fabulous.

Not as a telephone; I still think the RAZR was better, but the iPhone is a whole different lifestyle.

It's the apps. Like today, I was in the mall and didn't know where a store was. I hit Mall Maps, and got a layout of the mall, with a flashing pin for my exact location, and another pin for the store I was looking for. I walked straight to it.

I have to wait for an auto emissions test. I hit the Kindle app, and start reading my current book at the point I left off on the actual Kindle device at home.

Dozens of apps that do practical things like that. It's amazing.

A couple of weeks ago, I got my wife an iPad, and now I think I'll have to get one for myself.

Pretty soon, this place is going to look like squatting Mike's alleged Apple-infested Maryland bungalow.

I have an LG Mystique through my work.  I have to pay for a text package and whatever aps I want, so only have WeatherChannel on it.  I really appreciate that, I have a way to actually look at the current weather when my PC is out or I'm traveling.  I also love being able to snap photos and text or download them.  I've found that very handy at work, also.  Why draw a diagram when I can just snap a photo?  Why spend 20 minutes describing a part, then receive the wrong one and start all over again, when I can send a picture of it?

My daughter has a little smartphone with a $50 prepaid plan that allows her to browse the net when we travel, but no extra aps or games as yet.  I'm sure she'd find a million uses for an iphone, but she has homework and chores, more distractions are not needed.   :-)

What is funny is when we text each other from opposite ends of the house because it's just too much trouble to walk over and talk to someone.

Use an LG smartphone I've had for about a year.  We don't have 4G here yet, but the times I've been in places where I do have it, it's amazing.

But I'm with Doc.  It's a leash sometimes.  I'm so looking forward to vacation this summer.  NO cell service, NO Internet.
