(Jimmy) Carter offers condolences to N Korea
Former US president Jimmy Carter has sent condolences for the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il and expressed a wish to visit the communist country, the North's state media said on Thursday.
“In the message Jimmy Carter extended condolences to Kim Jong-Un and the Korean people over the demise of leader Kim Jong-Il,†the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
It said the message was sent on Monday, the same day that the communist state announced its longtime leader had died of a heart attack aged 69, urging people to rally around his youngest son and successor Kim Jong-Un.
“He (Carter) wished Kim Jong-Un every success as he assumes his new responsibility of leadership, looking forward to another visit to the DPRK in the future,†KCNA said, using the initials for the North's official name.

It takes courage, and deep self-respect and respect for others to stay so well out of small-minded, self-serving "it's us against them" ditches most politicians dive into to gain support from the ignorant, idiot class.
People like Jimmy Carter are the ones who keep the rest of the world from seeing all US Americans as childish bullies. He is a true national asset.

Remember that it was Jimmy Carter, on a secret mission by Bill Clinton, that managed to convince Kim Il-Sung to stop developing nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, one of Bill Clinton's successors (I will not name which one) was such a bad politician that he threatened North Korea into developing and exploding nuclear devices.

I would say that he is incredibly happy with the current Occupier of the Oval Office, because Carter doesn't look so damned bad right now.

Still amazes me how Jimmy Carter rose as high in the Navy without all the hard drinking and politics that goes with being a Navel Officer. One cannot climb the ranks without politicking on some scale that involves booze, this is the NAVY you know, Never trust a sailor that does not sit down and hoist a few with their shipmates. Never trust a Skipper that has no understanding of his crew.
Once president, the traditional way of military war fare went down the tubes. No Booze in the White House, great, even the Queen of England enjoys a glass or two of wine. The Muslims liked to visit him, most likely they had a flask on their hip.
Carter placed his own ideals above those of others, not a bad idea if he had remained a peanut farmer. An idealest that believed in the goodness of all men, believed that good would triumph over evil.
Unfortunately the biggest and best ideas came out of cigar smoke, whiskey drinking back rooms.
He was sand bagged, by the realists that needed to get him the Hell out of office. Yup, America does not need a Mr. Nice guy at the Helm of the Ship of State.
Seafarers understand why the Skipper gets drunk and rowdy, he is one of them. Carter was the sober Captain that used the lash on those that did not conform to his ideals.
Poor Carter he did not understand he fell into a snake pit and tried to reason with the Cobras.

It's actually harder and takes longer for a kid to go from E-1 to E-4.
That being said, as of January 1981 he should have just stuck with Habitat for Humanity and STFU. Just when you think Obama has worst president sewn up, Carter has to go, "Hey, I'm not dead yet, ****ers!"

Sparky, for some reason Carter reminds me of Obama, the president that kneels or genuflects before our enemy, Little knowledge in leading and protecting their Country from the enemy. Little knowledge that a leader must have and demand respect from their own country first and then on to stand firm, strong and demand respect from our enemy's.
Screw the problems of others, take care of our country first, then help out others as we can. Protect our age old friends, who in turn help us out when the need comes.
This charging in to help others when they have the money stashed in banks world wide but will not turn a dime over to help themselves is nuts, do we really believe these country's will become greatfull or think of us as Chumps.
China demands a 20+% charge to trade with them, we allow them to import to us at no charge. WTF is this.
I do not believe in closed borders and isolation but what if it were tried for a year or so??? Stock market would tank to the bottom, but then slowly rebuild itself when the restrictions were lifted. We would have a country of billions of dollars worth of goods that are of no use to us, but the rest of the world would beg us to send and pay top dollar. No export fee for us but charge them for importing.
America needs a Viper in charge, one that cares little for the rest of the world, America comes first. Some country needs our military to help, make them pay for it. Some country has a natural disaster, make the leaders come up with the money to match ours before we help out.
No more of these nice guys that lead, take the food out of the mouths of our citizen to feed a starving country that can feed the people themselves. NK people eat grass, leaders spend thousands to feed their dogs. Not our problem, I have yet to get a care package from any other contry to help me out.

I have memory's of traveling from Maine to Va. with 4 kids and hubby when we needed gas. Seems the State we ran into only issued gas to those that had a licence plate of even or odd on that day or week.
Hubby had to call the State police to force the gas station to issue us gas as hubby had orders to report to base the next day.
Just one of the weird shit we faced in Carters era. Long time ago, so much went on, we had no choice but to suck it up and go with the flow.

I'm surprised that the State Department allowed that - booze is an essential part of international diplomacy.
I remember reading that the French downgraded a state visit by the Persians - the wacky Ayatollahs wouldn't attend a banquet which had wine on the table and the French couldn't conceive of a meal without it. As a state banquet is part of the protocol of a state visit and the French (for once) wouldn't cave in over it, so they had an official visit instead.

Was a teenager on a dairy farm during the Carter years. One nice thing about that was we could get all the gas we wanted whenever we wanted it. His farm policies damned near bankrupted us, though, and when I got married in 1979, the interest on my mortgage was 17.9%.
I have NEVER done well under a Dimrat president, present president included. :mad:
