If the ****ing corporations refuse to hire us, what can we do?
Sit around waiting until they decide to use some of their stockpiles of money to start hiring, after they get their next tax cuts and a repuke Senate, House and president? Screw that.
There were times when people would hire the neighbor's kids to mow the lawn, wash the windows, etc. Women used to take in washing or cut their neighbors' hair for a little extra money. Someone down the street would fix your car. Another neighbor would do your taxes. That's what my neighborhood was like in the early 60s. One woman who worked as a seamstress took on little sewing jobs to make extra money. My mom sometimes did ironing for others. My dad did people's taxes. Girls started babysitting as soon as they turned 11 or 12. As a teen, I made a little money by washing dishes for neighbors who hosted huge holiday dinners.
It wouldn't solve the massive economic crisis we've been forced into by the corporations, but perhaps those who have a few extra bucks could start spreading them around by giving work to those who need it. I don't mean that people should exploit other people - pay them fairly or don't hire them.
If we got used to the idea of giving each other small jobs, they might lead to bigger and better things. At least I hope they would.

It's 2011 now. Neighbor's rarely talk to each other these days.

But that would involve that nasty evil four letter word - WORK!
Work can be physically and or mentally draining. People need that energy to score their smoke and post on DU about how terrible it is that someone has something they don't.
No, the answer is nationalize everything and give everyone checks, then tax them on those checks so they have more money to write more checks (which can be taxed to provide more money for checks).

1. I thought of getting group together that have different skills.
Skills like construction, accounting, cooking catering, child care, You fill out the paper work to become a corporation. You advertise at grocery stores etc. You get references. You undercut those who are working. You pool the income. Keep expenses low by using your own tools and vehicles.
You pay everyone a salary based on how much money they brought into the corporation.

And who pays all the costs of the corporation? Health insurance, life insurance, workmans comp., disability, errors and omissions, liability, auto insurance, unemployment insurance, taxes, accounting, annual fees. Vacation time, family leave, maternity leave. Who supplies the infrastructure for your corporation? Phones, computers, consumables, facility, someone to answer calls from all those people who saw your ad at the grocery store. Don't forget the employers portion of FICA and Medicare taxes.
Those tools and vehicles don't maintain or fuel themselves. They're not going to last forever. Who pays for that?
Have any of the DUmmies gotten past eighth grade yet?

Too hot, grass too high, always too something. Hell for that matter they don't even cut THEIR yards. I blame the parents. When I was a kid I had my own little Briggs and Stratton, hand clippers, a rake and 20 some yards. Average about 5 bucks a yard for an hours work. Hills were extra.

This is the part that caught my eye:

Let's run this through the liberalism-filter:
Does that mean the receptionist in the air conditioned office makes as much or less than the guy busting his ass 10+ hours a day in the sun?
Do they also equally share the costs of regulatory compliance?
What if someone wants maternity leave? Do they take a loss in pay because they have stopped producing?
What if the worker-owners don't have enough start-up capital or unequal amounts? Will there be stake holders based on the % of capital invested?

How about one of those vaunted co-ops they keep crowing about? Throw your money together and build a widget factory or something. Means of production owned by the workers, everyone paid equally, all that shit. I guess their moms don't give them enough allowance to get one off the ground. They're waiting for someone who's already made it by the sweat of their brow to have their wealth confiscated and given to them to start their hemp sandals factory or sustainable tie-dyed bakery or whatever, I guess.
I'd love to see a hundred DUmmies get together and try it. How long do you think it would take them to discover that, yes, some jobs are more valuable than others, or that working while Mary Moon and Jimmy Rainbow are over in the corner burning a blunt and still collecting an equal payday ain't all it's cracked up to be? They'd soon see the real meaning of Socialism.

That's a long payroll for a town of 6000, and each of those executives surely has a staff of assistants, who oversee supervisors, who have crews of workers. That's a lot of city employees. It may be that everyone in Rindge works for everyone else.

Socialism has been tried, with the inevitable failure it always brings, since Jamestown in North America. First year they pooled their efforts and fruits of their efforts. Turns out human nature is just like now. Some worked hard and produced while others did not yet got an equal share. The colony failed. Then the Pilgirms tried the same thing and nearly killed their colony. The next year, the more you produced the more you were rewarded. That is when the quality of life for all, including the slackers that are the DUmmys, went up for all. Yes, those evil extra producers benefited from their extra work.

15. People come to my house & wanna borrow beer & cig money.
I am not responsible for the state of the economy. These guys should be helping their 80 year old aunt, but they don't. They spend it on 40 oz malt liquor and cigs. One of them has a wife with a steady job.
I'm finishing the fencing around my house with an electric gate because I'm tired of people coming on my property to beg for money, or ask me about my used car they have no intention of buying, or even to spread gossip.
