Yeah that. After all, George H. W. Bush had a 90% approval rating after Gulf I and still lost the election over mainly economic/taxation issues. This is great news, but taxes, the cost of goods - especially gas and groceries- and the unemployment rate over the next year and a half is going to have a whole lot more to do with the election than the pleasing demise of this particular POS.
Only very lightly mentioned so far is that apparently the trail that led to this raid started with information about a courier which was 'Coaxed' out of KSM several years ago. It'll be real interesting to see how that plays out.

But I have to imagine the SEAL that put that bullet in UBL’s head is known throughout the SOC community. And they are proud him and his performance.
Can you imagine the unbelievable strain and tension of packing your gear, knowing you’re going after UBL, that the president had approved this particular mission and knowing that there’s a good chance you’ll be able to exact revenge for the rape of 9/11? And knowing also that those thoughts must instantly be replaced by only the mission and the details of that mission? And then, toward the end of a swift and deadly mission, having the world’s No. 1 bad guy in your sights and then having the privilege, duty, and responsibility of squeezing that trigger to obliterate the man that brought so much pain to so many people?
Well done, Navy SEAL. Your attention to detail and performance was exemplary.

And I'm sure there were tons and tons and tons of photos taken.
But Barry has not authorized release of that information yet. The stuff that's floating around on the innerwebz is either fake, altered, or otherwise "unauthorized".

While we do not, and more importantly should not, know the name of the SEAL who did the actual "kill shot" ....lets's take this opportunity to thank all SEALS and Spec Ops service members for their incredibly brave work. They go into every mission knowing there is a very good chance they might not make it out. It takes a special individual to be able to do this. Thank God we have Americans willing to do this for the safety of all of us. God Bless them and also their families.

1. Honor the Muslim custom and tradition of burying the dead within 24 hours after death. :whatever:
2. Keep any burial site on ground free from shrines and other types of hero-worship. It's kinda hard to shovel water.
I'd imagine the Navy did with the corpse what they normally do, without the ceremony -- pack it into a body bag/shroud, weight it down with a few odd 'n ends made of steel or iron, and dump it off the fantail.
Oh, and take a shitload of pictures.

Put it to you like this, Marine Corps Force Recon, USAF Special Forces (Combat Controllers, don't know about ParaRescue), and, if I'm not mistaken, some US Army Special Forces attend BUD/s. It doesn't go the other way. SEALs have no desire to spend a month or so in the pine tree hell known as Camp Mackall, NC going through SFAS.

President Obama has made a "categorical" decision not to release any photos of Usama bin Laden's dead body, according to the White House, citing concern that doing so could inflame sentiment against Americans.

America treated the defeated Japanese emperor with respect after Tokyo fell, despite the horrific bombing of Pearl Harbor only 4 years earlier. Hell, England, Germany, and Japan are our closest allies after they killed tens of thousands of Americans.
I'm not a bleeding heart, but it just occurs to me that Americans are different. There is no more evil man in the 21st century that Osama Bin Laden. I'm not comparing Bin Laden to an honorable military leader. I'm just trying to establish that Americans are different, more decent perhaps. But I think it speaks well of America that we buried him.

True, the Allies decided against prosecuting Emperor Hirohito for the war crimes that Tojo and hundreds of IJA officers were tried for. I agree. That's why, for dozens of reasons going back to the fouding of the republic, the American military is special. To go back to one more Band of Brothers point, the residents of Germany and Austria, and even Japan, never had to worry about conquering Americans raping, pillaging and plundering. I'm sure there are always isolated incidents, but when compared to what the Germans did in Holland, France, etc., and especially what Japan did in its conquests, members of the American military were--and still are--amazingly honorable and restrained. Ambrose credited it to the idea of "citizen soldiers."
Gurn, I mean absolutely no disrespect to you, or anyone who has ever worn the uniform in service to the United States. Just the opposite.

I wonder if the fake photos were the same ones posted here recently.
As for the staging the still pics for papers of his speech, I can't see why that is necessary given the quality of digital video these days. A still photo from a video is indistinguishable from a regular picture, especially considering the graininess of print media.

I dunno, Mr. Mannn. It wouldn't take al Qaida long to figure out that whatever info UBL had would be compromised and take alternate measures accordingly (if they're capable of that, which is debatable), so it's a moot point.
All the braying and trumpeting about "treasure trove" is designed for one purpose -- the American audience to think just how competent Barry is. Barry et. al. truly don't give a shit about what a release of information might bring after the operation. They are after right now, here today, like the narcissistic fool that Barry is.
And the media are pretty good about unearthing information. Any administration is going to have its leakers, so no matter how tightly controlled things are, word gets out eventually. This is why Panetta and Hillary were leaning pretty heavily on Barry to make a freakin' decision, which Barry eventually did --
