Title: HDTV
Post by: VivisMom on April 12, 2008, 06:29:48 PM
Before I start this rant, some background info:

My mom had a heart attack on Sept. 5 and died in my house. My husband, the baby, and I moved in with dad because I could not live where my mom had died.

My father is: 1) a moonbat; 2) a curmudgeon; 3) a tightwad (we can only run the dishwasher every three or four days, can't do more than X loads of laundry and can't use hot water if we do, etc). He's notoriously cheap.

So last night, we come back home from a nice walk to find that dad has bought a 46" Samsung HDTV. This thing is freaking ginormous. He bugs us about the electricity, the water, etc., yet he goes out and buys this monstrosity?????   :banghead: :banghead:

Is it wrong of me to ask him how he could afford it in this horrible *Bush economy???  :naughty: :naughty:

First of all, I'm sorry you lost your mom. I can't imagine what that must have been like.

I'd be tempted to start running through the house flipping on lights, running the dishwasher half empty whille yelling ,"Whoo Hoo! We won the lottery!" But that's just me.  :evillaugh:

I read once that it wastes more water and electric/gas to hand wash dishes than it does to run them through a dishwasher.  Sorry about your moonbat dad.  I can't even imagine what kind of pain in the ass that has to be.

First off, I'm sorry for your loss.  God bless your mom.

Secondly, 46" isn't big by any means in today's television world.  It's at best sub-standard.

Once you get into the 50" range you start to reach the normal size of modern televisions.  Hell, 8 years ago I had a 64" Sony.

Regardless, todays big screen televisions draw no more power, and in many cases less power, than the 3x" tube televisions of the 90's.

First......I'm very sorry for your loss.....

Second, regardless of how irrational it may seem to you.....it is his house, and his money......correct me if I am wrong, but you are a GUEST.....correct??

Nah, go for it.
BTW, did he upgrade his cable service to HD?  If not, he's not getting his money's worth out of the new tv.

I am so sorry about your mother, how sad  :(

My father is the same tightass that yours is, sorry about that too.

And, he's a moonbat...could this story be any more tragic???

LOL! NO! The thing is, we pay for the cable because he claims he doesn't want it. So when he found out we didn't have the HD cable, he was all pissed. He did, however, offer to pay us the difference for the HD cable.

And yes, TVDOC, we are guests...but my issue with this is that he bitches constantly about the amount of water and electricity we use (which, by the way, we pay half of), the refrigerator is dying, the windows are warped and need to be replaced...and yet he buys a TV? I'm finding it hard to take him seriously when he lectures me about money (which he does often-he basically told me that what I got from Mom's estate was to be put towards paying bills and NOTHING ELSE) and how poor he is. My mom is up in Heaven basically telling me that she told me this would happen. I can see her now. :)

And thanks for the condolences about mom, folks. :)

Awww, vivismom, I'm so sorry. Is this arrangement temporary? If so, just tell yourself that someday you will be out of there and won't have to deal with it. And I would tell him it's none of his business what I do with the money my mother left me. I'm assuming she left it to you legally, free and clear so he has no say?

Apologies for being a wiseass.......sounds like a situation that you need to get out of ASAP for your own peace of mind.

Do you have any other relatives or friends that you can stay with until you find a new place??

Good luck....

You have GOT to find the thread about spying devices being embedded in HDTV and that is the reason for the government requiring them (Check The DUmpster and track down the whole thing and the OP).  If he is a moonbat, he will never look at his TV the same way again.

You may be looking at years of fun.

PS: My sincere condolences on losing your Mom.  Mine passed on a few years ago and I still mourn her loss.

I know the feeling.  This coming Sunday will mark 13 years since my mother passed away.
