Auto bosses, UAW press ahead with “pay-for-performance†scheme
The top management of Detroit’s carmakers and the United Auto Workers union are pressing ahead with their campaign to introduce a “pay-for-performance†scheme in the new labor agreement being negotiated this year for 120,000 workers at General Motors (GM), Ford and Chrysler.
(Akerson, a former Carlyle Group hedge fund manager slotted into top management by the White House Auto Task Force, has stressed wages should not add to the company’s fixed costs. Workers should receive “performance†bonuses only if the company profits.
The UAW has already indicated a willingness to consider the idea, which it has palmed off as workers getting a “piece of the profits†after giving up tens of thousands in wage and benefit concessions.
The implementation of the proposal, however, would mean a return to conditions not seen since the 1920s, when auto workers were paid according to output and wages fell precipitously if production slowed because of falling demand. One of the most basic principles fought for by the UAW during the mass struggles that established the union in the 1930s was the abolition of the hated piecework system and its replacement with standardized hourly wages, protected by a union contract.

2. Not all that simple
From 1998 to 2002 I did piecework at a big 3 plant and made 6 figures every year. Worked my butt off, but well worth it. People fought for those jobs and no one would have done them for hourly pay. Now those jobs are outsourced.

3. The thing is....
by busting your ass you had probably deprived a union brother of his job while increased the profits of the company. That is playing into the Capitalist's hand.

7. So two people should slowly do...

what one person can quickly do? That's how things function in the workers paradise?
It's not hard to see where the unionized dog-****ers stereotype comes from.
Sid
Two workers pay more in union dues than one worker does. More dues means more money to the Demonrats.

9. No one should have to work as hard as two
just so the owner can realize more profit while another worker is left without the means of sustenance.
Nice ruling class attitude ya got there, scab much?

5. The difference now is that the UAW owns the company
And like any owner they want to get the most work for the least cost. Conflict of interest anyone?

No, dickhead, it's called being able to maximize your income with your talents, not how you can slackass while someone else negotiates your worth.
Think for yourself much?

No one should have to work as hard as two = two people should work as hard as one.

This is the kind of attitude that gives union members a bad name. Lord have mercy.
Blindpig .... if the job can be done by one person then it is not a case where you have one person doing the job of 2.

But twice the labor cost pushes the consumer cost even higher.
Why do you hate the working class who just want to purchase goods and services for their families?
-
Damn! Just Damn! The union actually thinks people should earn what their members are paid....the world is ending.

Anyone who's worked in a union environment knows that DUmmy blindpig has stated the absolute essence of unionized labor. "Busting your ass" means giving even one ounce of effort or one millimeter per hour more than the absolute letter of the union contract. And then they wonder why their jobs are moved to a place where people are enthusiastic about work.

I find it so amusing how the left is constantly getting smacked in the face by the people they support.
-
I've had too much experience with union "workers" to know that's exactly how it works! Now that the union owns GM, you watch how they will expect the workers to perform! If they lose money, their own members are goin' to start to question the leaders! They won't let that happen!

The National Geographic channel has a series called "Ultimate Factories". Last night's episode showed how the Chrylser Challenger is made. What really hit me is how the engines are manufactured in Saltillo, mexico, then shipped by train thru the U.S. to the final assembly plant in Toronto Canada. I can't help but think that the uaw played a big part in Chrysler's decision to build the components and final assembly outside of the U.S.

Interesting thread, I'll go watch the commies in a minute. Sometimes they get the smackdown.

12. A one-person job shouldn't be done at half speed by 2 people...
no matter how much you wish it should, comrade.

16. And who makes that decision?
Who decides what the proper speed of work should be?
Owner or worker?
Owners will always try to squeeze the maximum amount of labor out of a worker. And of course the worker never gets the full value of his effort and time, the owner appropriates that. Pretty one sided, huh?
You are free to open up your own business, stupid commie pig. Risk your own money and property. Go right ahead.

Maybe, but the main reason it comes up so often is that she announces it herself about three times a day. I think it caught on because it's analogous to how Lurch Kerry mentioned every five minutes that he served in Viet Nam.

It really should be seared--seared--into your memory . . .

The only thing seared on Kerry is his shriveled up pecker! Comes from hangin' out with Tereza to long! He don't have much of a choice if he wants to keep that Yacht he's dodgin' payin' taxes on, though.

Bobo the Hobo's domicile is always news, because it is to her, apparently. However, "Joooooos" on surveys in particular but just in general is one I'd throw in the 'Overdone' pile.

Remember, the Unions own the car company now. So, now it's important to work hard, to give the Union more money.

At the core, they want to make money, too. They would rightfully be called "evil capitalists."

The poster known as BlindPig usually makes its home at the pro Muzzie, anti Semite site Progressive Independent. I think even Pitcairn has shown this poster the door. One might think Skin's Island to be the toilet of the InnerTubes, but one would be wrong. DU floats atop the water with the occasional drain circling leaving a flatulent odor. PI ends up in the septic tank and stinks up the whole house for days.
