I don't understand all of the "shock" over what Loughner did
We, especially those of us in the U.S., live in a society that adores violence, that is exposed to it from birth, in every aspect of our culture.
If we ourselves are not involved in the military, we at least are exposed to what goes on there in terms of training people to kill. We are actively engaged in two actual wars, plus untold numbers of covert actions around the world. It's in our blood, it's practically what defines us, especially in the eyes of the rest of the world.
So when a Loughner does what he does, why all the furrowed brows and expressions of bewilderment?
*That's* what I don't understand.

Hey ****stick ever listen to a rap song? If anything in our culture is violent and nasty it's that shit.
It's not the soldier who promotes violence, it's not those who support the military that defends your sorry ass to say stupid things at DU.
I have seen more hate and violence spoken at DU than anywhere. For 8 years nothing but hate and death wishes towards Bush and any conservative. Now all that hate and bullshit has been focused on Sarah Palin who has done nothing to hurt anyone.
You keep telling us how stupid she is and no one takes her serious, then all of a sudden she is so influential.

1. Rachel Maddow has been focusing on gun violence this past week.
These kinds of incidents are COMMON and FREQUENT.
And of course a gun ban will stop that :mental:

5. I don't think we need delve very deeply to understand it
It's not like it's some deep, dark, obscure mental illness that causes something like this! It's out in the open, it's on TV EVERY DAY, EVERY MINUTE; it's in our music, our films, our literature, our art, our video games, every aspect of our culture!!
It's thinking that we can segment and compartmentalize things neatly that is the problem. That we can have thousands of troops who can kill because they are trained to and ordered to, but that somehow someone without that training and orders must be severely ill to act in the identical manner?
**** you asshole. How dare you compare our military to some stupid gangbanger who picks up a gun and shoots innocent people?

9. I hate to say it but
I think a lot of the shock is fake. Certainly, much of the empathy and sympathy from the right is just a media show. I know a few people on the right that likely think this shooting is no big deal.
We are addicted to violence and reality TV. Sadly, this just feeds into both.
**** you asshole, every one of us on the right is sickened by this monster's actions.
All you ****s care about is pinning the blame on Palin and trying to shut up opposition.

10. No Good Reason
Loughner had no good reason to do what he did.
But there are plenty, who would never ever condone what Loughner did, but do condone war, because they consider there to be good reasoning behind war.
Yeah because gunning down innocent people is exactly the same as taking out people who have killed our people and who plan on it.
:mental:
You people at DU are the dumbest of the dumb.

Great post! Liberals never fail to show their true nature.
What they don't understand is that we are a moral people who do not glorify random violence done against the innocent - like they do. After all, they are the ones who champion things like gangsta rap or glorify communist revolutions or anarchist terrorists, or even rant and rave with the most visceral hatred against any right-winger whenever there is the slightest chance to smear us for any reason.
All liberals are wrong, but some are truly delusional - and disturbed.

I don't know about you but, when Uncle Sam taught me to kill it was in order to defend myself and carry on with the mission at hand.
At no time were any of us taught to kill for the fun of it. In fact our military suffers more casualties because we take great care not to harm innocents.

That's how my ex-military father raised me. I never had the good sense to join the military, but my old man taught me to never pick fights but to fight like hell in my own defense or to protect someone else.
If my father were one of the scum thugs that the Left glorifies, I'd have been taught to kill because my "set" was "dissed" or to kill because the rich "bourgeois" are always oppressing the "proletariat".
That is, if he would have even been in my life to begin with, and not just the "baby daddy".

Report to the Carousel, Duer 157099, you have exceeded your lifetime quota of stupid. There is always a chance you will renew there, we'll all be cheering for you.

Hi 5 for everyone . If you can't understand why people are shocked over what that kid did in Arizona then your level of stupid is beyond any reasonable help a good doctor can give you. the kid was nuttier then a crate of fruitcakes and its not like people didn't know it especaily the sherriff and his parents. I find both of them, the sheriff and the parents as culpable as he is for not getting him off the streets and for allowing him access to a gun. He had been running around for long enough for someone to do something and they failed to act.

Just once it would be nice if they weren't so predictable.

They've spent the better part of a week getting bitch slapped by their own side because it rapidly becoming their "starvng woman in a coma" incident, and the intelligent libs are deathly afraid of how this making them look, and yet they still continue.
Stupid doesn't begin to describe them. I hope they keep it up a few more weeks.

This from the bunch that support the law that's cost millions of human lives just in the US,...from the bunch that think free speech is anything at all that doesn't involve a positive mention of Christ, thereby directly supporting exactly the violence they decry in media and entertainment. :banghead:

The whole mess is hard to understand. We need a comprehensive explanation from vestanumbers.

So, this regressed primitive doesn't know for sure, but is projecting. Suck on that, lurking DUmb****s.

Reading DU is kind of like watching the kid walk towards the light socket with a fork. We all know what is going to happen and we will usually laugh when it does.
Well at least that is how I learned the hard way to respect electricity. There was no "You better not do that" it was more like "Hey come here and watch!" :-)

The DUmmies aren't shocked...just disappointed that he's not a RWnutcase.

Is it gun violence or just plain violence? Or, is it that you want to ban guns by saying "gun violence"? :hammer: :hammer:

Hopefully, Eric Holder won't neuter the FBI's investigation to the point that the sheriff dones't get most of the blame.

Plus they're the ones who always want to make sure imprisoned felons--including the most violent--are registered to vote, or want to change the law in states that prevent felon voting to allow it. It's the Dems and regressives who want the most violent of the violent in our society to have a say in our politics and policy.
-
Not the ones that old. When I came in they were turning M60A3's into artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico.
Still actually a very capable tank, just not as good as an M1A1/A2 or its foreign sisters, but then they cost several times as much. They'll kick a T55 or T62's ass, and there's plenty of those or their Chinese and Indian clones running around loose still. The '60A3s did about as well as the M-1s against Iraqi T-72s in Gulf, we lost a few of each but neither type suffered any total kills (Vehicle and all crew). We did actually sell a fair number of '60A1s (The upgrades to A3 are all relatively minor aftermarket subsystems though significant gunnery enhancements) to clients including Israel, Egypt and I believe even Iran, I seem to remember a hulked one in a pic of an Iran-Iraq war battlefield. The Israeli ones added lots of reactive armor boxes, mainly on the turrets, in the 80s, and are probably still in reserve there, and sitll a formidable vehicle with modern APFDS ammo. Ours are the only ones in reefs, the rest of them are still out there.
