Of the many people injured at the insane shooting of Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, the most tragic story was that of Christina Taylor Green, a nine-year-old girl and innocent bystander who was shot and killed by Jared Lee Loughner, the accused wannabe assassin. That tragic death is garnering national attention, and unfortunately, national attention means the Westboro Baptist Church will be showing up to do their standard anti-gay, anti-America protest. Fortunately, a flight of “angels†will be showing up to protect Christina Taylor Green’s funeral from Westboro Baptist.

Alright...I've been to church. I like chruch. Very humbling experience, and a good way to get closer to our Lord. However...what the HELL is the Westboro Church planning on protesting against? I don't care about any bullshit reason they give. What is looks like to me is that they're protesting a 9 year old girl. Why. An innocent child who was taken away by a loon in a split second! I'm beyond pissed at this, and will never....EVER be attending this "Church."
Certainly IMO, this is no way to get to heaven. In fact, I believe this would be put you on a faster track to hellfire, and brimstone. Have fun attempting to shit on a little girl's funeral Westboro. Are you proud of yourselves? :censored:

Rev, Phelps is a disbarred attorney in Kansas. He is a Democrat who has tried, and failed, to win political office in that state.
The "Westboro Baptist Church" is nothing but a front for a hate group and has absolutely no basis or function in organized religion.
I hope that helps put things in perspective a bit.
As to why they want to "protest" Christina's funeral, let's not forget one other item regarding Phelps and his horde of thugs - they are attention whores and delight in pushing the buttons of grieving people so that they, WBC, can unleash their rather considerable legal resources to go after anybody who infringes on their "right" to "peaceably assemble."
WBC's legal pursuits are rather enlightening. That's how they earn their money - first, by pushing the buttons of grieving people so that they react, then WBC sues for damages.
Fred Phelps is a disbarred attorney in the state of Kansas.

I'm still pissed. Radical groups such as the WBC, the 9th Circuit court, the administration, Leftist radio, etc aren't sitting very well with me at all in this horribly sad time.
Dammit! :argh:

'Angels' Will Counter Westboro Baptist Protests At Arizona Victims' Funerals
Outraged at the news that members of the tiny Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., will try to get attention for their anti-abortion views by protesting outside the funerals of 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green and the five others killed in Saturday's Arizona shooting rampage, people in Tucson and local lawmakers there are organizing to counter any such actions.
CNN reports that there are plans for an "angel action." Volunteers will wear "8- by 10-foot 'angel wings' ... to shield mourners from pickets." The funerals begin Thursday.
Local news station ABC-15 adds that "Arizona Lawmakers are hoping some quick action Tuesday will [also] protect mourners from protesters." Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema has drafted legislation that would require any protesters to stay at least 300 feet away.
There are several Facebook pages up and running, including "Fight the Westboro Baptist Church in Tucson with Love," (Link (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_120719544664902) 0 where you can join others who object to Westboro Baptist's plans.
Westboro Baptist, led by Fred Phelps, has been showing up in recent years at soldiers' funerals and other high-profile services to push its views — and blame the deaths on America's supposedly sin-driven society. It has even said "thank God for the shooter" in the Arizona tragedy.

I swear...if it was a funeral for my father, brother, mother, aunt, uncle, cousin, etc...I would throw fists, they would leave by force, and we would proceed with the mourning. I wouldn't stand for something like this if I was related to the girl who perished at the hands of a MAD MAN!

That is exactly what the westboro group wants, and how they fund themselves. If you did that, they would sue you for assault, be awarded civil damages, and have more funds for their protests.
I think that the "angels" have exactly the right idea. They are planning on peacefully standing there blocking the protesters from the view of the mourners.
Apparently, the stated reason for the protest is that the girl's family is Catholic, and according to the westboro freaks, "God Hates Catholics." :mental:

On a scale of one to Joooos...just where do the Catholics fall?
...and while you're looking, where do us Methodist fall on that list?

*sigh* I know it's not the right answer, but I think someone would have to stop me, and knowing my family, they would. A whole slew of vulgarities would spew from my mouth though. I'm not usually a violent person at all, but this kind of thing can take me there. It is the utmost disrespect. It is vile, it is atrocious, and the WBC should be ashamed of themselves.
If they think they're getting to Heaven with their own twisted logic, I personally think they're mistaken. They sin simply by saying they do what they do in the name of the Lord. If they have ever said that. That's a no-no.
This whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. I'm hoping the angels block them from causing ANY kind of commotion.

Notice on who they pray on, and who they stay far-far away from.
Don't see them at any Muslim funerals, do you. As far as I know they do not attend any non Christian funerals.
This tells me that this Phelps family believe the Christians are easy marks to make a boodle of money off of.
Seems they go after the family's that are TRUE Christians and not likely to fight back.
VAMPIRES that suck the life out of the living as they are at their most weekest time. Some say leave them to Heaven and God, not me. When their times comes to meet our Father, I do not want them to meet him with a smirk on their face.

Arizonans Rally to Prevent Westboro Church Disruption of Shooting Victims' Funerals
Arizona residents are locking arms to stop the Westboro Baptist Church from disrupting the funerals for victims of Saturday's shooting in Tucson, with bikers and others organizing a massive counter-protest and state lawmakers fast-tracking a bill to hamstring the group.

I agree with you Rev 100% but they don't need anymore money to continue their hate. I would love for some of the families of the funerals that they protest sues them and they lose bad.

Phelps called Jared Loughner a veteran on rampage, even though he was not a soldier, let alone a veteran. Phelps is clearly consumed with self-hatred. I think he is gay and cannot deal with it. He also got into West Point, but never went, despite his father's wishes. He never had any good relationship with his father. He is on par with Osama bin Laden.
Here is an online book, Addicted To Hate.

Hold on just one second. Did I miss read a poster that said that Phelps was going to picket the funeral because the child was Catholic???
Is it not a HATE crime to harass people for their religion, race or lifestyle????
I do believe the Phelps believe they have hit pay dirt with this one----if they show up.
Some one has to get on the stick and find out who is sponsoring these ass holes. Find out how so many of them have jobs with the State and how they got them.
We like to think these people are just a weird family but there is no way they could have stayed in business without some very powerful people backing them. I do not believe it is just them that are in the game for the money.
This if they do show up may be their downfall, or worse make them very rich indeed.

Phelps does not hate gays exclusively. He hates Catholics, Christians, Jews, soldiers, veterans, etc. They make money by suing people.

It's already been done.
A soldier's family sued and lost, as Phelps and his group have the right due to the First Amendment. There's a couple of threads here somewhere about it.
You started one of them....

I do not understand these people who picket and protest at funerals..
They are condoning this Loughner guy's actions..
Worse of all, they are going to the little girl's funeral...
Let her family let their daughter rest in peace for goodness sake
The Westboro church, led by Fred Phelps, believes that tragic events like the deaths of soldiers are punishment for tolerance of homosexuality.
This has nothing to do with homosexuality or the military...
This has to do with a guy who has issues with a politician, and a little girl got killed in the crossfire!!
This group has no respect for anybody!!!!

Who said we're not fans of Fox News?

No reason to apologize.
It doesn't make any difference if it's a soldier, a child, an elderly person. They have the right to gather, to protest, etc....a right under the US Constitution.
The fact that they are lower than pond scum, doesn't matter. :(

Indeed - if they really believed their message, they'd be out there protesting at Muslim funerals and at Muslim mosques and waving signs that state "God hates Muslims" and so forth. If they were really serious about their version of Christianity, they'd act as if the Lord was on their side and protest Muslim funerals. I'm sure there are some out there.
Also, they could very easily make the case that "God hates the Hell's Angels" or "God hates the Bandidos" or "God hates [any 1%er motorcycle club]. Or hell, "God hates the Crips" or "God hates the Latin Kings" - but nothing. No protests at the funerals of these groups, no rhetoric on YouTube against them, nothing. Why? Because they know any of those groups wouldn't let the law stop them if WBC should offend them, and either at the funeral or after, they'd have a run-in with club or gang members when the cops weren't there to provide security. The same goes for radical Muslims, and then it would turn into an international incident.
The behavior of the WBC proves they are just a team of lawyers looking to make money off of lawsuits. If they really held genuine religious convictions, they'd act on them regardless of who they offended.
-
Those WBC shitpiles have called off their protest of Taylor's funeral in exchange for air time on a local radio station...
Arizona state lawmakers passed legislation Tuesday barring protesters at funerals from getting within 300 feet of services. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who visited the injured Tuesday, later signed the bill.
The action, according to Arizona House Republican spokesman Daniel Scarpinato, was in direct response to the controversial Westboro Baptist Church's announcement that it would picket the funeral of 9-year-old victim Christina Green on Thursday.
Shirley Phelps-Roper, a spokeswoman for Westboro, told CNN that the church has decided not to protest at the girl's funeral. She said her group made a deal with a radio host not to protest there in exchange for airtime. However, she said church members would protest at the funeral of U.S. District Judge John Roll and other victims on Friday.

What a bunch of dirtbags these people are!(WBC) As someone said further up, it doesn't matter whose funeral it is, it is still disrespectful!!!!! To the departed and to their loved ones!!
If these people have an issue with gays, protest at a gay pride parade.(God forbid they might get ignored and not get the attention they feel they deserve??)
IMHO that is not freedom of speech, that is outright harassment!!!
-
If the quote is true, this pretty well nails down the WBC as attention whores who are solely about money.
They will go to the highest profile funerals to strut their filth, no matter what the circumstances are.
Animals.
Actually, with the passing of this bill, I'm finding it peculiar that the ACLU or some other leftwing moonbat legal group isn't challenging it.

Legally, is this not extortion as air time is expensive ??
When a group agrees to not cause mental anguish to a grieving family [IF ] a radio station agrees to give them free air time to spew their agenda. Sounds like the old mob protection racket that still goes on today.
They will leave people alone as long as they receive some kind of compensation be it 3 cows, a packet of money, or free air time.
Shame on the radio station who agreed to this, had they said NO, it would have placed the Phelps family between a rock and a hard place. The Phelps last need was to back up their threats and attend the picketing of that funeral. They are very selective on the funerals they attend, I bet they research the family members and comunity to insure they will not be facing someone crazed with grief.
This group has bluffed it's way out of a big time bad corner, they jumped in and told the world they would picket a child's funeral, then the outrage that caused them to realise that if went through with this there was no way that they could do this and be protected from the outrage and they would be lucky to get out alive.
Conveniently a radio station stepped in to help them out by giving them some air time.
As I have said before these people have powerful friends, all their money does not come from lawsuits, unfortunately there are people out there that for what ever reason helping them in their quest to continue to be Vampires real live vampires out to cause misery for money.
Shame on the radio station who bailed them out of the hole they dug, the radio station is to be shamed for enabling these people to continue their hunt for victims.
-
Legally, is this not extortion as air time is expensive ??
Maybe there's a plan....as soon as they finish their on air rant, they get arrested.
-

For what, arrested for what.?? The station will not place charges against them, from what I understand the News papers and radio stations have been protecting these people. The radio station stepped up and made the offer to give them air time.
There is allot more money to be made off the back of these Phelps. Want to bet that the day the Phelps go on the air the ratings for the station will go through the roof. I also believe that advertisers will pay 3 times the amount of normal fee to advertise within an hour before and after the program.

Me, neither, but I would be damned if I wanted to see the whacko civil liberaltarian types making hay out of something and giving the WBC jagoffs exposure or any type of legal sympathy.
They're doing a fine job of pissing people off on their own, no sense in stepping in and interfering.
-
You know, I don't know of ANYONE who subscribes to what WBC does - even libs. Am I missing something somewhere?
The only person who subscribes to WBC is Michael Crook, the anti-military and victim bashing, and thinks rape does not exist scumbag. I am sure many know who Michael Crook is. I have seen him praise Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church.

One time a few years back our security company that I work for was hired to keep the WBBC from getting in the way of the parade held in Omaha for gays. I missed seeing them or they
didn't show up but With the few security guard we had it would have been hard to tell if there would have been enough to stop either side even with the cops helping out.

Mourners at the funeral of Christina-Taylor Green were greeted by more than a thousand sympathizers who lined North Shannon Road for a quarter-mile south of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Many wore white, and many had responded to an Internet call to counter the possible appearance of an out-of-state hate group.
They arrived on nearly 200 motorcycles, on foot and on shuttle buses from area parking lots, some prompted into action by the anticipated presence of a group from Kansas that protests funerals of veterans and gay people. The group ended up not showing.
Many of the sympathizers who showed up wore white and stood quietly on either side of Shannon Road. Among them were 18 "angels" with giant wings made from plastic pipe and bedsheets, who stood side by side in silence less than a block from the church for an hour and a half.
n the church parking lot, several firefighters and soldiers stood between two fire-ladder trucks, to hoist the 9/11 Flag at the church. The flag weighs 45 pounds.
The "New York Says Thank You Foundation" flew the flag to Tucson Wednesday to honor Christina-Taylor, 9, who was among six killed in Saturday's shooting at a northwest-side Safeway. She was born on Sept. 11, 2001.
The flag was flying at 90 West Street in New York when the twin towers went down. It is the same tattered flag seen in the iconic photo of ground zero.
