Now that was funny.  But I really want a chainsaw.  Really.  And a food processor, and a Wii.

Do NOT get the Wii!!!!!!!

We bought one a couple of years ago, only to now regret it, given how much better the graphics are on the PS and Xbox. And now, they've both come out with the same motion detecting capability that Wii started with.

If it weren't for the fact that we've sunk a sh*tload of money into Wii games, we'd make the switch in a heartbeat.

Just my opinion.

You heard right, Thor. We were at the Grove over the weekend and stopped in at the Bose Store, where they had one set up.

F*cking AMAZING!!!!

Yeah, the Kinect looks pretty cool.  I guess I should have said I want an "interactive video game playing device."

But, I really really want a chainsaw.   :-)

And WHY do you "really want a chainsaw" so badly ?? Next thing we'll hear is that you want a wood chipper, too.  :mental:

Because I have trees in my yard that have branches I cannot saw off with a bowsaw.  I have been told "Don't worry about it, so and so has a chainsaw, we will get him to come over and take care of it."  That ain't happened.  It really isn't enough to pay someone to do it, just a few dead branches here and there, and some shaping of some shrub/trees that have become a little unruly.

Essentially guys, I want a chainsaw so I can do the work myself, or have someone that knows how to operate a chainsaw, to come over and help me with it.

If I got a Food Processor, and a Kinect, and my trees still look the same come spring, I will still be bitching about wanting a chainsaw.

A couple-three months ago I bought an 18V Black & Decker (yeah, yeah, I know it's not a Stihl) chainsaw which I used on 6 inch gate posts (trimmed off the tops, which were too long). I think I paid maybe $80 for the damned thing.

No 2-cycle engines, no exhaust, no spark plugs, no carburetors, just enough power for small jobs like you're describing.

I bought mine at Lowe's.  :II:

Now, what's all this got to do with the damned Doghouse???

Thank you Euph.  That is exactly what I want.  And as it relates to the dammed Doghouse......I would NOT put someone in the Doghouse for getting something practical.  I may just, if I got jewelry I don't need, when I need a chainsaw.   :-)

I have  a Ryobi 18 V Chainsaw. It cut through 8" elm trees with little problem. It does eat through the battery power, though. I've also used it on dry wood, it's a little less power consuming.

I got pots & pans for Christmas one year.  Many women were scandalized, and were actively angry with Hub#1.  But they were a full set of cast irons, they're freaking great.  I had asked for them.

Now, don't get me a vacuum cleaner.  A chainsaw I can understand perfectly.

I worked with a guy that bought his wife a vacuum cleaner for her birthday.

BTW, my Ryobi has a hand guard on it that prevents "cut things" from getting back on the holder.......

kickback on a chainsaw is a bitch.

Lessee - I had 8 of those 6" gate posts that I had to trim back. I went through one battery charge doing all 8 of those. Chainsaws do eat through the battery power, but it shouldn't be a big deal if the job is small.

Yep.  Those little battery pack chainsaws are the ticket.  If you have self control...

The problem is that once you learn to use one, you start seeing lots of things that need sawed!  You start volunteering to help people put up wood for the winter.  First the elderly, maybe a single mom or two.  Pretty soon it doesn't matter, you just want to use that saw!  There go your weekends.  Your housework suffers, but your arms look killer.

Heh.  Thanks all for your chainsaw advice, sorry for the thread jack Euph.   ::)

If I got a vacuum, something would be seriously wrong.  I have wood floors.   :-)

I'd rather get a vacuum for a gift than a mop. :-)

I wasn't referring to the kickback guard. I was talking about the "bits & pieces" guard.... Dry wood, such as gate posts don't wear as much on the batteries as a branch on a live tree. (dead branches excluded) I think I picked up my battery powered chainsaw for $39 or $49. I can't remember any more. It was too cheap to pass up at the time.

I have a Craftsman Gas Powered 18" chainsaw, too. The battery one is light, quiet and easier to use for small jobs.

Issa, I can solve all of your tree cutting problems.  Head on down to your nearest quality hardware store, and request the Stihl MS880.   :-)

Stihl Wood Boss checking in... :cheersmate:

My brother in law has the MS361.  Both of us can really go to town on some trees.

Well we own a Wii (AND LOVE IT).  We would get a PS3, but it's a material item that we do not need.  Not a fan of the Xbox.  The remote is huge and there are too many buttons on it.  It's retarded.

I enjoy playing Just Dance 2 and making a fool out of myself.

I need only a few boxes of toothpicks a year, so pulling out the big boys is just a tad bit overkill.  :-)

I've told my wife that I wanted a chainsaw for some time now.  Thing is, we live in an apartment, without a fireplace.  I just want the ability to cut things.  My wife fears that the things I would cut would be various body parts--of mine.  Legs, especially.

I'll try to get one of the battery-operated ones this winter.  If we get a house like we've been trying to do around here (there are bargains to be had here), I'll probably get a decent gas-operated chainsaw, because all of the houses we're looking at have fireplaces.  That's a "must-have" for me.

We moved into our present house three years ago, which is situated on 3.2 acres. About a month after we moved in, a big-assed dying tree went belly up (natcherly, on our watch  :whatever: ) and I had to hire a few guys to come in and cut it up.

I'm still burning the firewood, though we don't use the fireplace all that often. It does get the living room toasty...

Yes.

The dance game for the Kinect is called something else... but it's very similar.  The game is such a blast.  It doesn't even matter if you get the choreography wrong.  It's fun!

I like dancing, don't go out to do it anymore, but I thought it would be great exercise and fun too.  Thanks!

Most people call it work but when you have a saw that eats wood like that one its only wook?
